Coldplay borrows from A-ha

Featured Replies

I noticed that Chris Martin of Coldplay has some elements of A-ha's lead singer Morten in his voice. But there's one big difference: Chris Martin has less projection of his voice. Chris' voice sounds okay in the studio, but when he performs live, his voice significantly falters, while Morten sounds pitch-perfect when he performs live. Didn't Coldplay sing A-Ha's "Hunting High and Low" in concert?

"Borrows"?

Chris borrowed his voice?

"Morten"..."Martin"...

Coincidence? I. THINK. NOT!

:D :D

Chris borrowed his pants too, once. No one talks about that.

^ is this true?? cuz I bought the last A-Ha album and didn't notice anything... I'll check that...

I can see where you're coming from with the Morten/Martin comparison and Chris actually wears some leather bands around his wrist as a salute to him.

But I really don't see the projection difference. I've never seen Ah-Ha live, but even though Chris has probably been influenced by Morten vocally, they are still completly different voices and ranges. MOrten has one of the broadest vocal ranges in modern music, which you can't really compete with. I think Chris' voice is actually quite peircing and one of the most, if not THE most, distinct voices out there.

Actually, it was the bassist or drumer's solo album. I forgot which one.

Yeah, Chris has a voice anyone could recognize.

it rather squeky sometimes....but still nice :D

 It's good to borrow. lol I just used that word to hook you. But still I hear similar elements in Chris' voice. Plus, Coldplay did sing one of A-ha's songs at a concert. Maybe Chris listened to A-ha since A-ha was very big in the UK.

He's admitted they are a huge influence, along with many other bands. He's said himself that he wears a lot of different armbands and bracelets because it's an ode to the lead singer from the band, who used to do the same.

Whether they sound alike, I can't comment on that. I have never listened to A-ha. All I know is that no matter who he's taking his influences from, I'm lovin' it. ;)

Yeah' date=' Chris has a voice anyone could recognize.[/quote']

Very true

Guy and Will performed on Magne Furuholmen's debut album, fantastic album!

sometimes i hear some similarities in Chris' voice, but i don't think we need to compare them, they have different voices.but anyway A-HA made a big influence in Coldplay's music.one of fave Chris' bands is A-HA and they are very good friends, they like each other's albums,so it's not a surprise that sometimes we hear some A-HA sounds in CP's music,it's normal.
