Best to search under 'posts' not topics. You find what you want easier...

i know,i wrote that in the second step ;) just forgot to switch when i made the screen capture :/

EDIT : corrected

don't for get to be as consise with wording as possible; the more words you use to search the larger the search output will be. if possible in your search method, use the "and/or" statement to cross reference different words or names in your search. e.g. when searching for a cover song, try referencing not only the song name but the name of the orginal artist and/or the concert if you know it. the more defining critera you add the smaller the output returned will be. if you are looking for a upload and you know the author add that to the "search for author" field as well as telling the search how far back in time to go in the "search previous:" pull down field. are you looking for the repost of a link from a week or two ago or the original thread from 6 months ago? no point in scrolling through tons for posts looking for the search item. if you know the info add it to your search, it will cut down on time.

people posting duplicate "request" posts, increases the difficulty of finding things using the search without a detailed search critera, so think/look before posting a new thread. not only will it cut down on threads and make searching easier it will also make keeping up the all the threads that much easier.

if you are going to request something... you are at the mercy of the board member to upload and post your request... be patient or you may not get it uploaded... and again, use the same original "request" post... if you have nothing new to add you can always just "bump" the thread back to the top.

thanks and sorry for the long drawn out post... i know most here know the info i stated above.

Amen brother! :)

Cool I'm in one of your screenies! Great idea on posting how to use the search feature.

I can't believe it.. people are still requesting already posted things that are in the same page!!!! I have an idea... let's put "use the search button in the signatures"... I know, it's lame, but maybe it'll work!

1.step: push the search button

btw, the search button's at the top of the page. :)

easy to overlook....

very good idea. i also hate the dozent of requests of already posted things..!

But the problem is: When people even can't find threads that are on the first page, how should they be able to find THIS thread about how to use the search function?

Not a bad idea, although the people who post requests for things that are already on the top page probably aren't the sig-reading types!

It's worth a shot, though....how's mine?

Maybe some kind of Coldplay IQ test for new members? Or better yet, a bloody gauntlet? :D

awesome! it even has a link and everything!!

great idea Ian,i hope people won't make stupid requests anymore

too bad a increasing number of new members can't seem to use the search function... pity, really...

I can use it but I can imagine that it is not very easy for the people that are not so familiar with this fucked up search engine :P

Great idea this one  ...I know newbies sometimes are not able to use it (like me at the beginning), but hey it's not too difficult

i guess sometimes it's too easy, and they're confused, that's why they make requests :uhoh:

 I really don't know what else we can do to make people use the search option...maybe a very biiiigg pop up anytime someone is going to open a new topic in this section saying "DID YOU USE THE SEARCH OPTION FIRST?" :wink3:

heeeeyy the pop up is a very good idea!! but then again, newbies would press NO...

yes probably..but maybe it's more visible than the sticky thread...or maybe they should not earn any bling...don't know but I think that some people post new topics just for blings even if what they're looking for is right in front of them

anyway Mrs Buckland ...good idea to put the message in the siggy ;)
