Well, its 5 am and i cant sleep so i shall share a recent thought i had.

I go to a grammar school in England where they care as much about grades/marks as they do personal gain (? i dunno if that makes sense. Anyway, one of the key ethics is charity and fund raising. Within our form, we have charity moniters and we have to raise money, you dont have a choice. The target is £300 a term, and this year our whole-school target is £20,000 (which roughly is like $40,000 for any americans)

Too ambitious? Think again.

We are raising money for make poverty history, and specifically 2 orphanages (and theres something else which i dont remember). Our head is an unbelievable woman, and in order to give the charity raising a kick start she did a sponsored bike ride to Paris, which raised about £10,000.

Anyway, some of my friends, lovely as they are, are complete arses and didnt appreciate it as I did. So i am typing about this for 2 reasons. Firstly because i believe that a lot of people here care about charity (like Chris and the band :) ) and might like to know, and secondly, because i considered writing to Coldplay to tell them about it. I dont really know why, jus thought they might like to know but then i thought it was a stupid idea, and now i dont know.

Well, thats it. Any thoughts are welcome. Hope everyone had a good xmas.

(Sorry if this is in the wrong part of the board)

absolutely. that's a great thing you guys are doing over there! I wish we were forced to partake in charity. The world would be a better place.

I'm sure the guys would love to know, but how to reach them is a slightly harder obstacle. However you do it, I hope they'll be pleased. :D

Thanks :)

Our school are really good about things like that. Lol, yeah. i have no idea how i would tell them but i thought it would be nice.

Wow. That's amazing! Congrats, mate! That reall is awesome.

I was actually going to make a Fari Trade group at my school, but it didn't get approved. (Something about tardiness or something? It was stupid)

I think you should DEFINATLY tell them about project. They'll appericate that more than praises I wager. :)

Awesome work man. And keep it up!

 It should definately be allowed. I guess its pretty hard to raise money for charity outside somewhere like a school where its organised and structured.

Its good on loads of levels. On a superficial one, you can put it on your CV. It feels amazing, especially when we get letters and stuff from a kid who can drink clean water for the first time in their life because we gave like £3 each. Its ridiculous. Also, most people are very pro-charity but if most people who dont willingly take part are people i dont like and when i was charity moniter it was good, coz it was a reason to get cross with them or get them in trouble

I hate people who are selfish like that. Just to continue the rant, i hate people who are all smug coz they give £20 once a year, only coz they feel morally obligated by the fact that hundreds of thousands of people died in a natural disaster or something.

I think i'll look into sending something to them to tell them. I mean, it means more than a letter saying 'omg, i love your hair' (altho i do :sneaky: )

i think if there was any possible way that you could contact them i think they would love to hear about it because you seem passionate about it instead of people who donate money to charity because they feel that it is their moral duty like you said. I wish my school would do stuff like that.

Good luck!

That is freakin fantastic.

Could you tell them through Debs after she comes back? I've never tried to contact Coldplay before, but that seems to be what the solution is for a lot of people here if they want to try and reach them.

this is an awsome idea, and as KM said, debs ahould definitely know about this!!! i dont know how long that's going to take... :/ but anyhow, awsome work!!

:) :)

Well done for raising money for Make Poverty History :) It's something I've become really interested in thanks to Live 8 raising awareness and Coldplay's support of it - I even draw '=' on my hand!!! I was thinking of organising an event also. Definitely write to Coldplay, it's worth a shot, if you can get a 'big name' to endorse your work that would be the icing on the cake :)

To be honest, I disagree with the others - there are so many people who would like to contact Coldplay which is highly impossible. So you shouldn't be too hopeful concerning contacting the band, but you can be sure that they'd be incredibly proud of you and what you and your school are doing! Because that's exactly why Coldplay are making so much promotion for MTF and charity in general!

The guys know that there are millions of fans out there who appreciate charity and MTF as much (or at least almost as much) as they do :) Where would it end when every single person wants to contact the band? A friend of mine did a Make Trade Fair video for an university course and she didn't contact them either - it was a kind of tribute to Coldplay and what they did for MTF and simply the FACT that you do it is enough, respect to you! :smug:
