Public Speaking

Featured Replies

How good are you at speaking infront of lots of people?

I used to be horrible, even infront of a small class of 20 kids, I'd stumble and mumble. I suppose I wasn't stand-out horrible, but in my mind, everyone was laughing at me, if I heard someone snigger, I assumed it was about my awful reading. In truth though I was just a kid who couldn't speak clearly and perfectly, like every other kid, nobody was laughing at me.

I was pretty much this way up until about age 15 or 16, there wasnt a drastic change, I just for some reason didnt feel any pressure, it's like one day it clicked and I realised it didnt matter.

Now I can speak infront of lots of people with no problem, and I have to as part of some Uni council meetings, infront of a conference of 80-120 people. Luckily I'm only a deputy and speak for about 10minutes, my friend is the main officer who has had to talk before for a full hour. I'd die, my voice would collapse. When it comes to singing at gigs (But not infront of very large crowds, same as the council meetings, about 100 people) I dont say anything in between any songs. I just always thought it sounded so lame when I go "Is everyone feeling alright?!" and get no response. So I just cut that right out, Bobby Dylan style (Though he's earned his dues, hmmm slightly more then me  ).

Have you ever spoken infront of large crowds? Share! SHARE WITH ME :D

My face turns uber red ...in the beginning my voice is soft. But if it is a good topic, then i feel nice and strong and I do a good job.

I love the word Uber. Have to remember to include it in my daily diction again.

Yeah if I feel I dont know what I'm talking about completely, or like I dont know what Im going to say next, I just freeze a little bit, and go red. Not as badly as I used to, but it happens in my film class.

Haha. Sometimes I go really red if a girl I dont like is flirting with me. It's not being flattered or blushing, it's being so embarassed and not knowing what to do.

I'll take a picture the next time I blush :P

Sometimes it's a big problem to me to speak in front of all my class.Everybody is looking at me and I can just forget my words or turn red....It's awful,I hate public speeches.

The topic of public speaking seems to scare some people. It used to frighten me.
