January 30, 200620 yr I know this is a bit random.......but what do you think about "normal"...I mean............do you think there is a definition or not? We use this word so often but you can't really define it......so what do you think about it in general?
January 30, 200620 yr In behavior, normal means not deviating very much from the average. "Not normal" is often used in a negative sense (improper, sick, etc.). Abnormality varies greatly in how pleasant or unpleasant this is for other people; somebody may half-jokingly be called "pleasantly disturbed". Examples of "normality" are mainstream, temperance, vanilla sex, equilibrium, stability, reality, peace, health, middle way; contrast these with eccentricity, perversion, paraphilia, intersexual, disease, disability, mental illness, addiction, war, crime, fantasy, dream, hallucination, illusion. wikipedia...
January 30, 200620 yr normal is wierd word because it's different to everyone so no one can really say "that's normal, and this is not". personaly I think normal is what most people do but I dont see the unnormal things as bad, wierd or sick if you know what I mean
January 30, 200620 yr NO ONE WILL EVER KNOW that is a fact. but the "definition" is like...common standards people set... which are lame and unnecessary
January 30, 200620 yr i think normal it's normal.... or normal it's not normal, the oposite  ... whatever..
January 31, 200620 yr All the people said that the world is crazy,so if the people say to you that you are not normal, for me that a compliment.
January 31, 200620 yr NO ONE WILL EVER KNOW that is a fact. but the "definition" is like...common standards people set... which are lame and unnecessary Exactly, and I'm just going to basically repeat what's been said here already Nobody can define it because it varies from person to person which is all down to society and what's viewed as normal in a persons environment. I also think it's highly influenced by what other think, I mean if your friend said something like "oh smoking weed is normal" you'd more than likely just accept it because it's a common thing which isn't unheard of, but it's not necessarily "normal" or if a community sees being an athiest as a normal thing but a different community would view being christian as normal Anyway that's enough of my ranting :idea2:
January 31, 200620 yr normal = social norms. whatever society (as a whole) deems fit to be 'normal', average, common.

January 31, 200620 yr It's interesting because 'normality' is defined by its relation to 'what isn't normal'....so if we didn't have some deviance to compare it with, there would be no normal in the first place. In this way, normality is apt to change quickly as we redefine what its opposition is...because it is 'easier' to pick out deviances from the majority. Normality of course is defined by numbers...if everyone tomorrow started to wear plaid leggings, then those who would be still wearing jeans would be singled out, and the norm would be redefined....... What the crap am I talking about??? Normal, it's what's for dinner.
January 31, 200620 yr In a state of deep focus, there is no such thing as normal. In a state of broad generalisation, everything is.
January 31, 200620 yr normal = social norms. whatever society (as a whole) deems fit to be 'normal', average, common. good one :)

January 31, 200620 yr i would call normal the majority of people. but there is no majority of people anywhere, everyone is different. but there are large groups of people who like emo, etc. but they couldn't be considered normal because they only consist of maybe 20% of high school americans
