Hello everyone!!! coldplay 2nd greatest ever

Featured Replies

Hello, I am Robbie, and I stand by a statement that at the current rate, Coldplay will be the second greatest band of all time, right behind the Beatles...Thats right, better than Zeppelin, Cream, the Who, U2 (who really just sucks), and etc.

hi robbie! and how can coldplay be the 2nd greatest band ever??

Hi Robbie,

Interesting statement and I can see where you're coming from (because I love the old Beatles stuff) but I think it would be hard to predict what Coldplay 'will be' when they've probably got years ahead of to smash your theory and become, to you, the greatest band ever  To me they already are! :D

Welcome :)

indeed, coldplay is the second best band but not after the beatles ... after U2 for me :P

welcome anyway :D

hello!!!! :D

Why coldplay has potential to be 2nd greatest band ever...

First of all, we have to look at what Coldplay is doing for music at a time when music is down...They didn't really have anything to build off of...For example, the Who, Zeppelin, Cream, and all the bands of the 70s built off of the last few albums of the beatles as well as blues...They took what was already began and then added drugs and Satan to it (well, not Cream), as well as 8 minute guitar solos...But what happened during that time is musicians began focusing on how quick someone hands move up and down a guitar or on a piano instead of how the music affects the mood of the song...That is something that the Beatles and Coldplay are perfectionists at...If you've listened to some of coldplays covers, you notice that Johnny is one hell of a guitarist, but does that mean he goes nuts when he gets the chance, absolutely not...And how often do you see Chris Martin write lyrics that don't go with the music at all? I don't recall one song.....

On a totally different topic though, Coldplay has already proven to be more consistent in their music that Oasis, and I am sure we haven't forgotten how popular they were....Also, there isn't a very good chance for Coldplay to get caught up in drugs to ruin their career...And while this is a reason for some to call coldplay "gay", it is added stability...

But most importantly, it is the way coldplay wants all their music to be original...Early B-Sides and Parachutes was mostly acoustic guitar, a lead electric, and piano for slow ballads....We remember songs like trouble, careful where you stand, only superstition, Don't Panic, Everything's Not Lost, and Yellow during these times....

But then, with the release of A Rush Of Blood to the Head, you see totally original work with a song like Politik to open it up, and GPASUYF, as well as one of the greatest songs ever written in the Scientist, and I don't know where to begin with the musical genius behind clocks....I mean, I know for those of us who play guitar and piano, it is easy to read the sheet music and play what Coldplay plays, but to write the music they write is amazing...

And then we see more evolution on X&Y...We hear a lot more electric, dark sounding tracks, with organs, and a lot more effects on guitar, as well as a trial in their music, releasing the hardest part...It is definately not their most popular, but an experiment none the less...Not to mention we have the song Chris wrote for Johnny Cash, Til Kingdom come....Name another member of any band that has been able to write successful material for other bands in rock, music for techno/pop music, and folk country, as well as dominating their own rock/pop culture....

It's because of all this, I can say that Coldplay at the current rate will be the second greatest band ever...I mean, yeah, stuff happens, but probably not to these guys....We still need to remember that they have only realease 3 albums.....

And on a final note, guys, I know you all might love other bands, but give the Beatles their due, No one will ever do what they did...I mean, look, even Paul is still one of the best in pop right now....

welcome Robbie! have fun here! ;)

Welcome to the site Robbie! :D

can't stand 80s music

Sorry man, I just can't satnd 80s music, to me it's just a sign that music went downhill after the 70s....Maybe I shoudn't really say they suck, because that really isn't true, but definately not my style, I don't know why, I just don't like it...

doesnt we all live for making enemies

I agree.... U2 ain't so great. To me all the songs sound the same, but then again, that's probably just me. And it might have to do with the fact that I never listen to U2....

Anyway... what I wanted to say was... welcome :)

^i think you didn't hear enough U2-songs if you're saying this :P

There the poor mans Rolling Stones!!!!

You're making quite the impression Robbie. I agree that I'm not the biggest fan of U2, but 2nd to the Beatles? They're an awesome band, but Coldplay, gotta be the awesomest (if that's a word :P ). I mean, the way they take simple chords and make music for listening sake. Slap some epic lyrics on there, and you got yourself the greatest band ever known to man. Welcome to the club. :D

Epic lyrics... maybe on A Rush of Blood to the Head.

But X&Y...

You pretty much can't go wrong with ANY Coldplay song. So that's why I left that area blank. Haha but yeah, those songs have pretty epic lyrics. :D

rdmerr02, holy shit you wrote a lot! Haha

But yes, Coldplay is the #1 greatest band in my opinion, and I'm sure others agree :)
