I'm still holding on to that LITTLE ounce of hope, that just MAYBE, they'll release 5 singles. That would be nice. I don't care what it is at this point...everything else on the album is single worthy...THP is certainly NOT!

^ i like THP just fine. it's fun and upbeat, etc...but it's certainly NOT single worthy. ESPECIALLY compared to tracks like White Shadows, Swallowed In The Sea, and What If. This is honestly the track I least expected to be a single...which is kinda ironic, cos IT IS! they've BARELY done it live on tour...so it really doesn't make sense to me.

 

but hey, i'm glad Coldplay's the kind of band that'll do what THEY want and not what everyone tells them to. that's how every band should be...I just think they should've released White Shadows. it's a wasted opportunty for a massive single!

i do see it as single material. of course its not an obvious choice since there are more upbeat and coldplay-like singles, however, to the regular and common listener, WS, SQ1, SITS, WI and the rest "just sound like SOS and talk". i dont think so, but regular people do. i've done it before. i play the album to people that arent colplday fans and they are naturally attracted to THP, since its sorta REM-like(in my opinion). so its a great people pleaser.

i do agree with ya with the 5 single thing, x&y is a very good album and coldplay should have one more oportunity to receive recognition. :D

i think will wanted what if to be one of the singles from x&y... ;)

its a very good song as well, but not strong enough for a single....it would have a kick ass video though. :D

Yeah. Since they just did a good video for Talk, I'm not expecting much for THP.

really? sounds really dramatic! this is how the what if video sounds...

 

i imagine it in sepia colors, lots of contrast.

the vid opens up in a close shot of a piece of paper on the tracks of a train, the old ones. the song starts, the page flies to the left and the viewer can make out that its a song sheet, with notes and words of the song.

The screen goes black for like 1/2 a sec(like a blink), then chris appears in the distance on a piano, in the middle of the same tracks of train.its the middle of nowhere in somewhere that looks like colorado.... the camera is slowly getting near...he sings:

 

what if there was no light(then after, a close up of chris' fingers)

nothing wrong(a shot of his face), nothing right(then fingers again)

(a shot of his face)what if there was no time

and no reason or rhyme

what if you should decide

that you don't want me there by your side(other shot of face)

that you don't want me there in your life(other shot of face)

 

(Fast snaps shots of pages are shown, then a shot of different things, cannot be recognized)

 

what if I got it wrong....belong(camera shows wide angles of surroundings, and then moves to chris's fingers again)

to not go farther in details, the band plays, but the camera mostly does close ups of hands, eyes, instruments. then bit by bit, the background fades, it sorta becomes discolored, so do they but slower. as this transformation takes place, the middle of nowhere looks more like a city, this time in color. them in black and white.

video ends, with lots of shots of the city, but the band remains on the shot. then, colors begin to appear, and the band actually looks like they are on the city.

it ends on a futuristic train blowing the page to the right.
