The Bass Thread

Featured Replies

Well for all us bassists out there...here is an official thread where we can share tips, tricks and tabs (Coldplay ones of course). :D

I have played guitar for a good few years but I made the decision a few months ago to start bass and I am in the process of buying my bass and amp and I hope it will be successful!

Enjoy!

I was thinking of gettting a bass.........whats it like to learn?

I dont play guitar really, I play Piano and some other strange instruments.

Is it easy or hard in your opinion Ted?

Well I have been reading endless reviews and opinions, I have chatted to friends who play either bass or guitar and I went to a music shop in half term and it just seemed better for me than the normal guitar...I felt like I couldn't go any further with it so I decided to take up bass. I have been saving up carefully and selling my old guitar stuff and I have just about enough money to get a "proper" bass guitar and a beefy amplifier as well. I think it is easier in that there are less strings but you have to have a good sense of rhythm and timing and you will be like the backbone of your group or whatever. You will always be in demand as well! Let me know how you get on!

Ok, thanks. I want to get a Mandolin (I know not the most practicle of instruments) but I also want to get a Bass.....Im not sure!

A Mandolin eh? Interesting! Are there many types to choose from?

Not really.....im not sure though.

I mean theres electric and acoustic and then its just up to how much you're willing to spend.

what bass have you just bought?

For sure i plan to pick up bass some time. For now though i am satisfied with trying to improve my guitar skills.

Well then my guitar is all customised and I am just waiting for my amp to arrive. In the meantime I have been playing through an awful stereo speaker type combo thingy but I am getting by. I thought I would share my first tab with you! Pretty basic but I am just starting out so here we go...

This is the bassline in Clocks that plays for much of the song that is basically going "Home, home. Where I wanted to go." You should recognise it! Awesome line! Enjoy! :D

Maybe add a few more notes on some of those like more 6s and 10s but you should get it!

Sweet looking bass man :)

You should check out some of these Victor Wooten videos. He is one nut of a bassist.

Yay Nettie!!! Great minds!!! Mine was a hell of a lot cheaper but hey I am a poor student...hehe. Such a sexy guitar! You have the snazzy little thumbrest and bridge covers etc. Very nice indeed! :D

You got a 62 precsion bass cheaper than I did?

How?

Where?

I've been looking all over.....

  • Author

No mine was cheaper because it is a Standard Precision Bass. I just wanted a real Fender and customise it like Guy's and I managed it for under £400!

Bought this today...I will let you know if it is any good. ie I will share tabs if they are good...they look it so far!

very very cool looking Bass Ted I must say!! for the moment i only have replica guitars but ive messed around with intonations and action on them to get as good a s ound as possible out of them but there's nothing like the rel thing so im saving myself to buy a proper fender bass.i have an SX bass and a squire telecaster at the moment both look well together as they are both black and white if i can get a pic of them ill try and upload it for ya!

In the meantime keep plucking away!

I used to have a black and white Squier Telecaster too! But I agree...you cannot beat a real Fender. I was so committed and I raised like £600 for a bass and an amp and I am so glad I did! Let me know how you get on!

Heres a pic of my guitars for ya Ted.Hope you like em!
