March 14, 200620 yr I feel the need to start a thread to express my feelings for this incredible song..... :D:heart: I LOVE ITTTTTTTTTT!!!!!:D It's just so beautiful! From the moment I bought the Talk single it really grabbed me....I would even say now that it's definatley in my top 5 Coldplay songs ever. I mainly love the guitar....so folky and twangy....I wish I could play like that. It's just stunning. And I love the way the song builds from start to finish, and you can hear each individual part coming in....its great to listen to really loud on headphones. And I love the little things that add to its raw sound, like some studio noise that hasn't been edited out (like someone saying something - im not sure what - at about 00.9seconds). And Chris is fantastic doing this style...its really suits his voice. (and dont even get me started on the heavy breathing bit at the end  ) Even though I have no idea what the majority of it is about, I really like the lyrics. It's quite ambiguous, and I like that, as it lets me think about my own meaning. It's so simple....yet the sound is quite complex....but it doesn't sound over-produced. So, to sum up....I just adore it. I don't think this the direction that the boys will be going in, but I wish it was because I LOVE IT! :D Anyone else love this song as much as me? 'Cos I don't hear much praise for it on here, so im curious what other people think about it...:)
March 15, 200620 yr Oh no Steph. I love it very much. I'm glad somone else appreciates it for very much the same reasons that I do. It's an amazing song. I realy do hope they play around a bit more with this type of sound. :) And I absolutly love to listen to it on my iPod. I get the image of the boys in a small room surrounded by auxillary precussion instruments and such and just jamming. I really do love it.
March 15, 200620 yr Whenever I listen to the song, I was strongly reminded of a wildlife documentary with lions chasing zebras and hippos and antelopes. I dunno why, maybe the music suited perfectly to a wildlife documentary footage.
March 15, 200620 yr Author ^LMAO! Really? Thats so random   And I absolutly love to listen to it on my iPod. I get the image of the boys in a small room surrounded by auxillary precussion instruments and such and just jamming. I really do love it. Yay!:D Thats exactly how I picture it too! :nice: And it really does sound so much better listening to it on an iPod/through headphones. It feels so intimate, like they are jamming it just for you.
March 15, 200620 yr It makes me think of a farm for some reason, like a really little family farm. I LOVE this song too, I like it much better than "Gravity," which everyone seems to like so much, but I wasn't terribly impressed. I like it when they play around with new styles...and a strong guitar/piano riff always ties a song together the best.
March 15, 200620 yr Author ^I'm not a big Gravity fan either. I used to love the live version, and I think that I was so used to that that when I heard the studio one it just wasn't the same... Im listening to it now....I love love love the "run round the houses..." part when the piano comes in.... :nice:
March 15, 200620 yr I put my full support in the appreciation of Sleeping Sun. The repeat button is usually active when I listen to it!
March 15, 200620 yr Author Yay! :D  Since I got it (the day Talk single came out) I have listened to it 74 times on my iTunes alone. :stunned: Woah.
March 15, 200620 yr I would love to see them play this in their acoustic section at one of the shows.
March 15, 200620 yr Author :stunned: Oh me too! So bad!!! Nettie took a banner to Earls Court on the 15th saying 'Please play Sleeping Sun', and we held that thing up and shook it like crazy, but no luck. Would be so so SO amazing to see live....:)
March 15, 200620 yr I love the sonorous piano. It's so striking and so... awesome. Of course. I see Guy like... surrounded by triangles, chimes and temple blocks with a stand up stong bass and Will with a kick drum, snare, tamborine and shaker. Then Chris at the piano with an acoustic bass guitar on his lap and then Jonny with an acoustic. I don't know. The song's so rich and raw at the same time that I get a very vivid image in my mind when I listen to it. :)
March 15, 200620 yr Oh, and also, no one insult Gravity while I'm around. I may just have to get ugly. ;)
March 15, 200620 yr Author  Ok :lipsrsealed2: It's so cool, the image you have when you listen to it is just like mine. I dont usually get such a vivid image in my head when I listen to their songs...except stuff like when I hear Clocks I picture the video, and Square One I always see Earls Court in my head, with the big clock :nice: etc etc... But this song is so different. God I just adore it!
March 15, 200620 yr Truly brilliant song! It is so different from normal Coldplay stuff. Such a great rhythm and sound to it all. Even the name is cool. :D
March 16, 200620 yr I hope the new album goes in a Sleeping Sun direction.. such an amazing song! It's my favorite bside right now.
March 17, 200620 yr I loooooooooooooove Sleeping Sun! I was so gutted when they didn't play it @ Earls Court. They almost did........almost.....:\ :(
March 17, 200620 yr Sleeping Sun is definitely one of the better B-Sides, and also one of the most under-rated. Make me mad how many people sorta brush it off. It's got those lyrics that make you think, plus I love songs like Sleeping Sun and Green Eyes. "Coldplay Country" as i call them.
March 17, 200620 yr Does anybody understand the lyrics, though? I like to get other opinions on these things, because I suck at deciphering metaphors and the like. So if anyone has any ideas, post them!! Thanks!
March 18, 200620 yr This is what I hear: Climb up your mountain Nineteen and countin' You have got seven I have got one Blinded and hurting Mis-un-deservin'. I've got my secrets You've only got the sleepin' sun When you've got a secret And you've got to keep it. When you have a question Answers will come Runnin' and hidin' Takin', dividin' You've got your secrets I've only got the sleepin' sun The sleepin' sun... Singin'... ...... And you as I saw A piece of a jigsaw Run up and around it Jump up real tall Run round the houses North and the souths' You've got your answers We have only got the sleepin' sun The sleepin' sun... Singin'... When this song comes on my iPod I can't help but sing along, and of course I get funky looks because my ear buds are in. :wacky:
