mohahah, i get my dentist appointments for free for the next month till i turn 18.

I'm having 2 appointments before that haha

It's a known fact that dentists will lie on your last 'free' appointment, so when you come back for your first appointment which isn't free, they charge you lots.

And with the National Health Service, you would have thought it was free.

For a private customer, the cost of a check-up is around £60, for NHS it's £30 from the customer and £30 from the governement.

Still better than America's system though ;)

I will prob be in there for 5 minutes and the dentist will say I need to floss more.

well, im 100% sure that i won't have to pay for those 2 appointments.

Plus those dentists work for the city anyway so they don't really care if i pay or not, the city will give them their money anyway

It'd be different with private dentists though..but those are fucking expensive!

Oh, I see. I get it for free because I'm a student and I'm visiting a dentist for highschool and uni students, so yay. But otherwise you'd pay 20 euros or more for an appointment.

The annoying thing is that the dentist place where I'm registered has a highish turnover of dentists, so for the past 4 appointments I have seen 4 different dentists. It isn't good really.

And I think the way the NHS Dentist charging system has changed to 3 levels to make it simpler, but £60 compared to something like £300 if you went private for a filling or something is better (what's even better if you can get Bupa or HSA health care so you can claim back that £60 :sneaky:)

I know people moan about the various delays and drawbacks of the NHS, but it's worth it.

Nina, I don't suppose you have an EHIC card ;)

£300?????????? What are they THINKING?????

It's private health care, there is no limit in what they can charge.

As long as there are people around willing to pay it, they will charge it.

(although most people who go private either are super-rich or have health insurance which will cover the costs)

What's an EHIC cart?

European Health ______ Care?

still, it sucks. The result might be just as good if you pay only 100 pounds or even less.

Some dentists do both NHS and private people, with no difference in the treatment, just where they recover their costs.

European Health Insurance Card

To the EU:

http://ec.europa.eu/employment_social/healthcard/index_en.htm

Basically if you go travelling to another EU state, and fall sick, the doctors can't charge you the earth to treat you

Ahhhh yes yes. I have it. Only when I go to a foreign EU country. Luckily I haven't used it yet! :)

And those dentists .... gah.

All this bureaucracy is shite sometimes.

Yep, all the red tape, everywhere.

So I read somewhere you did cheer-leading Nina :sneaky:

Yup! :D I'm still doing it. Not at the moment though.

Nice.
