In general what I learnt by doing the battle of the albums which was a sorta full size dummy run of the system was that people change their votes depending on peer pressure, so I picked up the habit of not counting until the thread is closed.

 

But once it's closed, it's a matter of adding up the votes using whatever method you like, so you come up with some results which with any luck equals my count :D
