Revolution Renamed

Featured Replies

to the Wii.

Nintendo renamed it to Wii. :\

Ah well I think it's a bit silly really but whatever.

I don't know at all what you're talking about, Nintendo rocked, and continues to rock, let alone a few screwups here and there.

Anyways, Wii is really a stupid name out of context, but if you take into consideration what Wii really means, it's pretty clever. And it sounds just as stupid as Xbox. Seriously. All awesomeness of the actual system aside, the Xbox's name is nonsensical.

Yes i hear there are a large number of people disreguarding ps3 and xbox360 to wait for a Wii.

Oh, I still like Nintendo. :laugh4:

What does Wii mean?

Introducing... Wii.

As in "we."

While the code-name Revolution expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer. Wii will break down that wall that seperates videogame players from everybody else. Wii will put people more in touch with their games... and each other. But you're probably asking: What does the name mean?

Wii sounds like "we," which emphasizes the console is for everyone. Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii.

Wii has a distinctive "ii" spelling that symbolizes both the unique controllers and the image of people playing it. And Wii, as a name and a console, brings something revolutionary to the world of videogames that sets it apart from the crowd.

So that's Wii. But now Nintendo needs you. Because it's really not about you or me. It's about Wii. And together, Wii will change everything.

:laugh4: :laugh4: :laugh4:

We are the knights who say Wii!! Okay, really though, the only thing I'm really iffy about is the weird controller.

Hahahahaha, that article reminds me of good 'ol Bob Marley.

"Let's get together and feel alright..."

"Wii will crash and burn."

That's what I'm guessing.

I think they're going to far to try to "revolutionize" gaming--I mean, we need to make baby steps people, not introduce a controller that looks like some sort of... sex toy.

It looks like a remote control to me. Seriously... who does this...

ah sorry, i was talking about an old version of the controller i guess....

haha, the one that looked like... a sex toy :laugh3:

I just think that the controller would be cool for some things, but I mean... I don't want to have to flick it up every time I want Mario to jump. And how are people supposed to push buttons quickly when they're situated like THAT?! *sigh* One of those things Wii'll (LOLerskatez!!1) have to do to believe.

The company which really knew how to erect new frontiers in gaming industry was Sega, but they had a bad timing, and a few mistakes that had costed them the lead in the industry.

As for Nintendo, they always tried to be revoulutionising, but ended screwing things up.They didn't have a domintaing console since N64.I'm pretty sure this Wii's gonna blow as well.

Nintendo have had most of the recent controller revolutions to my knowledge.

Lets see... they brought us 4 buttons (as opposed to 2) on the SNES pad, which incidently also brought us shoulder buttons. Trigger buttons, the rumble pak and the analouge stick with the N64.

This just might work out for them.

Sega was the first to go, and I'm thinking Nintendo won't be far behind.

Which truly is sad. The history of gaming is being slowly torn away... Atari... then Sega... next Nintendo.

Hmm... Nintendo did not bring us trigger buttons. Xbox did. The analogue stick wasn't that revolutionary - it was a re-invention of the joystick from Atari-era.

Gamecube sales were less than stellar when compared to Xbox, and even moreso when compared to PS2. The DS also was a stinkbomb when compared to the PSP. Nintendo won't go down without a fight - Lord knows that they have the money to fight for ages.

But I just don't see them keeping the interest. People see Nintendo as a childish company now, and only people ages 4-12 will be buying their stuff. Sony and Microsoft have universal appeal.

Oh, and to paraphrase Nintendo's President... "People don't want online gaming."

Yeah, okay. Because Xbox Live was such a flop.

I think you'll find the N64 had what was called a Z button i.e trigger.

A joystick + a pad = analouge controller . The point about the analouge controller is that no one else came up with it.

I'm not denying this. The GC sales were poor compared to Sony and microsoft in all places bar Japan.

This i would have agreed with maybe half a year ago but (surprisingly), quite a few people i have spoken to seem to be waiting for the Wii and not going for 360 or the idea of a ps3.

Oh, and to paraphrase Nintendo's President... "People don't want online gaming."

If he did indeed say this, then i must agree that this is a silly thing to say..

Yeah. Well, I don't know. I mean I always have one or two friends who actually have a Gamecube... so that's fun I mean they have some unique and fun games.

But if Nintendo just became a third-party company, I wouldn't have any problem with it.

Yeah, because there are some classic games on the Nintendo platforms - Zelda, mario kart, star fox etc.

I would just say: don't write off the Wii just yet :wink2:

Yes. :wink3:

IF only they had used Cd instead of cartridge in N64...I remember games for n64 being something like 100$, whilst being limited to 40megs if I'm not wrong. They did the same with Gamecube, why didn't they just used the standard dvd?

They were more like $50. :stunned:

What was frustrating about cartridges was that, you know, if you rented a game and saved it, it would be on that cartridge. And if you wanted to rent it again and pick up from where you left off, good luck on getting the same cartridge you had before... and still, maybe someone erased your data.

I think they chose the small disks just because they could. "We can fit THIS MUCH on THIS LITTLE!" I don't think it was much more than that, unless there was some weird technical thing to it.

So... what will the Wii be using?

It was because the non-standard disk is harder to copy thus preventing piracy.

But still they haven't had a dominating console, that can be taken for serious for yearsssss.
