Eric Clapton hits out at Coldplay and U2

Featured Replies

Eric Clapton disapproves of bands like U2 and Coldplay as they seem to put their fame before their music.

The 61-year-old guitar legend told The Times: "Right now, the power of music sits with Simon Cowell and Coldplay and U2, who are really people who just attend awards shows.

"From just listening I can't tell the difference between Coldplay and U2. The one in Coldplay even dances like Bono."

Clapton said that he's also worried that modern bands are forgetting where rock and roll has come from.

He said: "I think what it shows is how incredibly detached all the current stuff is from its roots. What worries me about what's going on now is that people don't know where it's all come from, and I don't suppose they're that interested."

Clapton has had a senior moment during that interview, methinks :smug2:

Must be the old age!

^Eric C®apton can join the "slagging off" queue..................................which is now an extremely long one.

Could this be because Eric doesn't get nominated for too many awards himself, nowadays, I wonder??

True - it's a bit like saying you can't tell the difference between Eric and Mick Jagger!!:laugh3:

it's ridiculous to judge someone because of awards/nominations amount...

Eric has a point by the way. i disagree that Coldplay make similar music to U2's (even if there are some similarities in theirs sounds), but Chris' dances are annoying and useless, not "coldplayish" at all

^ But Chris' dances don't look like Bono at all' date=' don't you think?[/quote']

i haven't seen Bono in 80s

^Not in my book...........................

Mark, you should take off your pink glasses

^No - Eric Clapton should take some "happy" pills................................

What exactly is that, anyway? Those types of labels are so unnecessary.. as if a band is only limited to what's "in their character" somehow. Chris can dance and very well should if he pleases. He's said many times that he not embarrassed to do so anymore.. "even if it does make him look like a twat."

he should get a pen and paper instead of dancing and try to improve Coldplay's lyrics ;)

1/3 of X&Y was unacceptable lyrically (if we look at their previous recordings)

Whatever your opinion on the album lyrically is your opinion and quite irrelevant in this thread, really... I just think it's pointless to have preconcieved notions and limits on how an artist should behave while performing. I'm quite glad Chris says he couldn't care less if folks bash him for that.

And seriously Nik, how could you not like that?! :laugh4:

Chris should be applauded for that - far better than all those performers who are obsessed with looking "cool" all the time!!

Even when he screws up on stage he's very open about it......................most of his contemporaries would probably try to pretend it hadn't happened!!

I'm sure Eric Claption falls into that category - but then he probably never makes mistakes, as he's quite obviously "perfect"!!
