Nelly Furtado has hailed Coldplay star Chris Martin for his impromptu songwriting skills, after he conjured a song out of nowhere for her new album Loose. The pair joined forces to record the track All Good Things, which now features on the release as a solo number after Martin's voice was deemed too "rocky". But Furtado will never forget how the Clocks singer worked his magic on her disc - even though he insists his contribution was "s**t". "After we'd recorded it I asked him, 'Did you write that just now?' "And he said, 'Yes, of course - that's why it's s**t.' He's so completely unaware of how great he is. So very humble."

i like Chris' modesty. he will never admit that he writes great songs and that his band is the biggest worldwide, otherwise it wouldn't be him then. spreading shit about greatness is Oasis' and NME's job...

I dislike his modesty 'cos I don't believe in it. It seems like he says all these things like that his music is shit just to make people think he's so shy and cute etc. Maybe I'm wrong but I just think it's all superficial. It's hard to believe that frontman of one of the most popular bands in the world thinks his songs are shitty.

i think he's the frontman of one of the most popular bands who thinks that usually good bands are not popular at all. well i dont think he wants people think he's cute.. for me the humble thing is better than telling all the people how good you are. isnt he so perfectionist? :\

He's alwys said his lyrics are shit. That's why he doesn't print them.

And if I wrote lyrics of my own, no matter how amazing they were, would feel like they were shit when I listen to all of the amazing songwriters out there. I can see Chris being a very insecure person and his love for music making him look at his lyrics in more negative light. But he's said many times before, that it's when you actually think that your lyrics are as good as Radiohead's or Dylan's that you have to stop. You can never level out and stop trying to improve yourself.

he's modest. i like it . i hate it when singers/artists become too cocky.... for example kanye west. we know youre good, you know youre good, but you dont need to brag about it...

A lot of people aren't confident in what they create. I think he's somewhat of a perfectionist and can never be completely happy with something. He's always being too hard on himself. I don't think he's trying to be "cute." He's just insecure, which is crazy because he's fucking brilliant.

 

So basically Chris wrote all the lyrics to that song? That's awesome. It really sounds like something he would write too, because it has a nature-like awe-inspiring tone. It's a good song.

I agree that his humbleness is genuine. 101% Chris. :) In a way the fact that he doubts in himself makes him so human (i.e. everybody can easily relate to what he creates etc). We think he's the best, surely, but if he thought that as well CP would perhaps loose a part of their charm.

 

I think ppl should stop doing what they do the moment they think they're perfect (too bad that most ppl don't, they just get arrogant...and are far from being perfect).

I think its not a question of being humble at all. When someone is like this doesn't keep saying that everything he/she does is shit, but if he/she thinks that is doing a good song, f.e, he/she doesn't tell anyone. Thats the meaning of this word - for me.

Everyone of us is able to appreciate him and realize he is simply great, and in my opinion he SHOULD do the same!
