Ok before I get yelled at for not searching... I DID!! And the only thread was from 2003.. so I made a new one! :P

I'm listening to her new album Loose via MSN Music.... (I never knew you could listen to an entire album like that thru there.. ) but anyhoo... its pretty good. I am enjoying Keane's album more over her's, but its a good feel good album.

yeah i also think they did it well...

her style changed but it's still nelly

it's a good alternation to all my other stuff i share on music, i really like the songs "say it right" "promiscuous" "showtime" "wait for you" and "all good thing's"

Te Busque is good too...

i think she's always had this style in her.. some of it comes thru on Whoa, Nelly... but, I am sure she'll get some 'slack' for being a bit more poppy.

I'm diggin it though.. Timbaland is the man!! lol I also read that when Coldplay played Tampa- Nelly and Timba were in the audience.. and thats when Chris dedicated 'Don't Panic' to Timabaland!! lol

Hmm... I saw her live at a festival I went to about a month ago and she really couldn't sing... it was pathetic...

I quite like her songs usually, so I wanted to see her, but I didn't see the whole performance because it was really bad... No more Nelly for me :\

Ewwwww no thank you!!!!

narr, i dont like maneater, she sounds....... well........constapated   :\

my sis likes it though..........but then again she likes ne*yo. enough said. lmao!!

I really don't know what to think of her. Try and Forca are two of my favorite songs. As far as pop princesses go, she was always my favorite (and she's Canadian too  ) but I really don't like where's she's gone. I suppose it's well done, but the whole skanky flirt thing when she used to be so joyously ecclectic... it kind of cheapens her. :(

completely agree with Erin. I really liked I'm like a bird and turn off the lights but she has changed for the worse in my opinion

I don't like seeing her dance. I don't think she can dance too well. She should really stop.

But she's pretty. :)

I find that her new stuff is much more....generic pop. There's nothing really special going on...or nothing that sets her apart from the rest of the pop ladies out there. I mean, sure, her originality didn't always equate into huge sales, but it was an admirable quality. Her new song Promiscuous is a throwback to Britney Spears' "Slave 4 U"...the beat is kinda similar and it's the first thing i thought of when i heard it.

And also, I don't know if anyone has seen recent interviews with her but she seems to have lost all her humbleness and gained some sort of uppity arrogance. Maybe that's just me. But I noticed it several times watching some of her interviews.

i am SO addicted to promiscuous, i love the vid as well! very good song to dance to.

maneater was the first single released here so we're just getting promiscuous now, and if these 2 songs are anything to go by then her album should be very good!

I love her new style.

Does she have connection with Chris Martin?

I heard that she wanted to have cooperation with him.

I think she's sold out and is now doing stuff that doesn't suit her. She isn't a "pop-rock chick"!!

I like her song Promiscuous Girl & obviously All Good Things, but it's funny how I told a friend to just listen to the beat of Promiscuous and she'll like it...and yeah, she actually liked it...(she's more into heavier things, so this was a shocker)

I love her new style.

Does she have connection with Chris Martin?

I heard that she wanted to have cooperation with him.

they recorded a song together but he didn't like the end result so he doesn't appear on her album.

Q&A with Nelly Furtado On Chris Martin

0,,5211046,00.jpg

CAMERON ADAMS talks with Nelly Furtado about her Coldplay mate Chris Martin.

Your last album, Folklore, kind of disappeared after your debut Whoa Nelly was a massive hit. What do you learn from that?

I learnt you can't take anything for granted. In the beginning I had all these opportunities, like winning a Grammy, opening for U2, playing Saturday Night Live, doing photo shoots for Vanity Fair . . . I just thought everybody had that kind of luck first time out. Now I see it was beginner's luck. With Folklore people weren't ready, it's a mixture of luck and fate and trends. It was such an intimate and personal album it was a stepping stone for me. I wanted to show people I wasn't just this cartoon character from the I'm Like a Bird video. I guess I'm a little bit guilty of being that selfish artist who uses their albums to work through things.

It's a cult favourite, Folklore.

It's the fan favourite. The people who like that album really, really like it. Whoa Nelly was like the big loud girl at the party who was in everyone's face. Folklore is the dark serious girl on the couch who wants to have a serious discussion with you in the corner. Loose is the whole party.

Loose is a change in direction.

It sounds weird, but it's almost like I was born again as a female with the birth of my daughter (Nevis). I feel like I'm claiming my femininity more on this album.

You've got a more sexy image now.

I've definitely changed that way. Before my closet was 90 per cent sneakers and 10 per cent fancy shoes, now it's all high heels and one pair of gym runners. When I had a baby my body changed . . . as an artist you have to challenge your fans, show them you're evolving. People are attracted to change, to vulnerability.

You did a duet with Chris Martin on Loose's All Good Things, then his voice was removed. What happened there?

That version is on the internet somewhere. It wasn't a traditional duet. Chris really wanted to come in and meet (producer) Tim(baland). Tim didn't want to make it a duet so he sampled his voice and it weaved in and out. It was so beautiful, it was actually quite groundbreaking the way he infused his vocal in it. It's still really good without the vocal, but at the last minute his label said "No, we can't do that" because his vocal was a little more raw than it sounds on a Coldplay record. It was unfortunate, maybe we can put it on a B-side album. I want to do a B-side album next year, there was a lot of stuff left over from Loose.

So it was a mutual love-in between Chris and Timbaland?

Oh yeah. Timbaland was jamming (Coldplay's) X&Y like mad. All Timbaland would talk about was Coldplay. He was like "That guy's the truth". He would play the CD and sing all the lyrics. Coincidentally I bumped into Chris backstage at the MTV Awards in Miami. We used to be friends when we were doing our first albums in England. He said "You're working with Timbaland, that's amazing, can I come by? I'd love to see how he works." I said "Tim would love to meet you, you don't understand . . ."

When you say you used to be friends with Chris, is it true you were once 'special friends'?

No! Everyone thinks that's true, but no, we were just friends.

So how did Chris and Tim's meeting go?

Chris was kind of humble and shy and nervous. Timbaland was the same. They were like schoolkids. I had to be the one to say "Tim, turn your keyboard on. Chris here's your guitar, sit down, get on with it." I don't think they would have made music otherwise. Once we got going it was like Chris had this inner James Brown he had to exorcise.

Hang on: Chris Martin funky?

Hey, at one point Chris was doing his own rendition of Jay-Z's Dirt Off Your Shoulders. It was brilliant!

When HiT spoke to him Chris was coy about the rumours he's doing something solo with Timbaland.

I think he might do a solo project in the future. It'd be great. Actually Timbaland and I are talking about doing a Gorillaz/Gnarls Barkley-style band collaborative effort. We found it quite freeing in the studio, it was really liberating to not have the pressure of being a solo artist. In the music business you get so busy promoting, but when you let yourself make music magical things happen.

You said Timbaland is like 'ET on the boards'. Are you saying he's an extra-terrestrial?

It seems like he beams in a sound from outer space. It's really interesting to watch. He really becomes the rhythm when he makes beats.

You recorded a song, Crowd Control, with Justin Timberlake that hasn't ended up on either of your albums.

He might put it out as a B-side or something. He's very funny and really talented. I didn't really understand how talented he is until I worked with him. He's full of ideas and concepts.

And he's in your Maneater video.

We invited him to shake his booty in the video. He was nervous, he was like "I'm the odd person out."

So let's talk more about this band you and Timbaland are thinking about. How serious is it?

We're even fooling around with band names, like the Awake. We were inspired by Eurythmics and Blondie. It'll be like the UNKLE project. When I was in the studio with Chris and Tim I felt I was watching something great happening. To tap into that intense energy is the reason I make music. You can't pay for those moments.

So you wouldn't front the band?

I'd be one of the singers, plus maybe Justin, Chris, Missy (Elliott) . . . it'd be neat if it was a real collective.

Between your contacts and Timbaland's contacts . . .

I think it'd be amazing. The idea is to shut off our Blackberrys and work for two weeks straight and call the album In Two Weeks. We'll see.

Loose (Universal) out now.

International superstar Nelly Furtado returns to Canadian Idol to perform live on season finale, Sunday, Sept. 17 on CTV

Furtado joins Melissa O'Neil in the 90-minute end-of-season celebration

Toronto, ON (September 7, 2006) – She's heating up the charts around the world after kicking off the Canadian Idol Top 10 phase earlier this season.

Now, she returns to perform live on the Canadian Idol stage for the first time.

CTV announced today that international superstar Nelly Furtado has been secured to perform on the supersized, 90-minute season finale of Canadian Idol, airing live on Sunday, September 17 at 7 p.m. ET.

Furtado will perform the Canadian television debut of her latest hit Maneater, which reached No. 1 in the U.K.

Since her first appearance on Canadian Idol in July, Furtado's double-platinum album Loose returned to the No. 1 spot on Nielsen's SoundScan charts.

After performing an acoustic version of her hit single Promiscuous on Canadian Idol, the track remained the No. 1 single in Canada for seven weeks running while occupying the No. 1 spot in the U.S. for eight weeks.

In addition to gracing the covers of numerous international magazines over the past few months, the Universal Music recording artist won three Teen Choice Awards and was nominated in three categories at the 2006 MTV Music Video Awards.

Furtado is in the midst of a whirlwind promotional tour that will take her to Japan, Australia, London, New York City, Mexico and back home to Toronto.

"Nelly Furtado is an artist who represents the truly eclectic nature of Canadian music," said Susanne Boyce, CTV president of programming and chair of the CTV Media Group. "Her diverse musical background is a direct reflection of her Canadian heritage. She's a great choice to help us celebrate the end of another stellar season."

"Fans instantly responded to Nelly's exclusive acoustic version of Promiscuous which she taped for Canadian Idol," said Executive Producer John Brunton. "We can't wait to see what she has in store for us next in what's shaping up to be one of the most exciting season finales we've ever had."

As previously announced, Furtado will join the reigning Canadian Idol champ Melissa O'Neil, who will also perform live before passing on the Idol crown.

Additional details surrounding Canadian Idol's season finale will be announced soon.

Furtado and O’Neil join a long line-up of special guests who have performed live on Canadian Idol this season, including Tony Bennett, Rex Goudie, Martina McBride, Chantal Kreviazuk, Roger Hodgson, Dennis DeYoung and Cyndi Lauper.

Nelly Furtado returned with a sexy bang this summer when her long-awaited third album Loose debuted at No. 1 in both Canada and the United States.

Released on June 20, Loose has sold more than 250,000 copies in Canada.

This album marks the first time Nelly Furtado has debuted in the No. 1 spot on Nielsen's SoundScan chart.

Recorded for the most part at Miami's Hit Factory with hip-hop producer extraordinaire Timbaland (Missy Elliott, Justin Timberlake), Loose features 12 new tracks that sees Nelly co-writing for the first time.

Co-writers on Loose include producer Timbaland, Nate Hills, Juanes & Lester Mendez, Rick Nowels and Coldplay’s Chris Martin.

Canadian Idol was created by Simon Fuller and is produced in association with CTV by Insight Productions.

i have always liked her style and her voice, but the latest album did disappoint me immensely.

woah, nelly! was a great album, she brought something unique to the music scene.

folklore well not too sure where that went. it sort of came in and out and didn't stand out for me.

loose i definitely had mixed feeling about. mostly negative to start with but ive adjusted, a little.

now:

anyone see the difference? i'm all for change, i really am, but i don't like the shift her music and look has taken.

when loose came out i bought it straight away thinking her urban/indie/pop sound would dominate the tracks, but there is hardly anything like i'm like a bird or turn off the light quiality. at the start i was extremely disappointed and thought she'd become all pop-starish and fame struck, making videos that are a dime a dozen. how many videos of half-naked people dancing in clubs are we going to see? seriously. she has come a long way since laying on the grass and riding bicycles.

on the bright side, i have listened to loose more frequently and like some of the tracks esp showtime, say it right, all good thing (come to an end) ft chris martin but the album version is ok, and wait for you. however i still vote for the woah, nelly! style over her currently style anyday.
