Do You Take Smilies Literally?

Featured Replies

Now I know I worded that one wrong, but do you think of say this one: :dozey:, named dozey, as dozey?

I certainly don't, I think of it as more of a 'Yeah I'm cool :dozey:' type thing.

Other's include:

:rockstar: - rockstar

:shame: - shame

:smartass: -smartass

:annoyed: - annoyed

yay

no, I don't used to take them seriously either, although some of them such as:

:sneaky: , :whip: only makes me laugh.

Anyway, I have more doubts about its meaning when someone writes either  or :bigcry:... 'cos sometimes I used them seriously, just for saying that I'm sad.

I usually go by the expression as much as the supposed meaning. :dozey: usually seems to mean a sarcastic "yeah, sure, whatever".

This one seems to be angst as much as illness

This one isn't very charming :charming:

This one? :chinese: Uh... I have many asian friends- none of whom have buck teeth.

I think they're important when saying some things. Like a comment I make about someone is taken a complete different way when the :p face is on the end.

That's as important as they get for me.

I kinda have to agree with this point. Because if someone writes:

[You're a fucking idiot and I will chop your head off come tomorrow 2pm]

(maybe even write it in big bold letters)...then the context is really scary and threatening..like you are uncertain whether its serious or not.

But if they write:

[You're a fucking idiot and I will chop your head off come tomorrow 2pm] :P :sunny: :nice:

Then the context is *freaky* lighthearted and taken like the breeze itself.

So, while I don't take it seriously...sometimes a smilie can completly change what you take from a written sentence.

Doesn't that rockstar smilie look a bit like someone from oasis in the early photos...lol?
