NOT WINKING ANYMORE

The Sun - Thursday, July 6, 2006

ENGLAND fans were rejoicing as the World Cup waved goodbye and good riddance to sly Portugal winker Cristiano Ronaldo.

The slimy winger blubbed after he and and his diving pals were dumped out by Zinedine Zidane’s 33rd-minute penalty.

France now face Italy in Sunday’s final but cry-baby Ron, comforted by boss Big Phil Scolari sobbed: “It was a very bad referee tonight. I SHOULD HAVE HAD A PENALTY.”

Angry Scolari accused the official of killing his final dream after a massive bust-up at the end of the game.

Scolari had to be restrained from wading into the French at the final whistle and fumed: “They made some absurd comments about our country and players, using words I can’t repeat in public.

“If the French had acted correctly to all my players it would have been some consolation but they didn’t.”

The winning penalty was awarded after Ricardo Carvalho had felled Thierry Henry.

Ronaldo, 21, was jeered for much of the game. And French boss Raymond Domenech and defender Willy Sagnol both accused the Manchester United lightweight of diving.

Rooney was an idiot for what he did, but the actions of Cristiano Ronaldo and his team-mates (and Scolari) throughout the tournament have been a disgrace to the game.

Thank goodness they didn't make the final.;)

It's about time they started using video evidence to ban blatant cheaters, even if it's after the match has finished.

If they can do it for "violent conduct", I don't see why it can't be done for "diving" etc.

shame on you

"Shame on" Ronaldo, you mean. He's a disgrace to the game. And now he's been officially criticised by FIFA, which is a positive move, at least.;)

All refs will be watching him like a hawk from now on. Hopefully it won't be long before he gets a red card for diving.:D

^ I totally agree, yeah. I'm not saying that other players don't do it as well, but the winking to his teammates was just too much.. You have to start somewhere, and when the FIFA starts acting against it now, it might prevent others from doing it..

Agreed. C. Ronaldo is just one of the MAIN offenders, not the ONLY one, but an example should be made of him. I would be just as annoyed if an England player acted like that, although it's far less likely to happen.

^ Well, it could definitely happen. I guess it depends a lot on the coach as well. I'd imagine an England coach telling his players afterwards that diving isn't the right form to win - but it seems like the Portuguese players have never heard that instruction!

No - I think they were told the complete opposite!!;)

The English are such bad losers. Blame the other players instead of realising how average their own players are.

Nothing to do with it. This is about Portugal's cheating behaviour during the WHOLE tournament, not only against England. They've lowered the tone of the WC with it.;)

@ mc_squared, don't even reply, burningmonk is obviously not getting what we mean.. We NEVER said that it's Ronaldo's fault that we lost the game or that we deserved winning or anything! We said that Ronaldo's constantly diving and cheating, this has nothing to do with the England game!!

Maybe. But if England had won, you wouldn't have seen anything like those pics/articles.

@Flying Sparks, I never said YOU specifically meant that. But a lot of English people do.

^ Alright, then I got it wrong, I'm sorry. I'm sure there are English saying that it's just Ronaldo's fault, but I've never heard that from anyone, to be honest.

And even if we had won, I'm sure that England would blame Ronaldo for Rooney's incident and for the other stuff he's done anyway! I mean, the FIFA doesn't warn Ronaldo because England lost, they warn him because he DOES dive and he DOES cheat.. That's all we're talking about!

True - and that's why he's being whistled by the German fans every time he touches the ball.;)

And it's a shame. Ronaldo's lost all credability. Even if you knocked him over the Refs would think twice now because he's cried wolf so many times. It's a shame too because without all the diving and cheating, the man's a good player. What a waste!

^ I agree with you a 100 %. I wouldn't have anything against Ronaldo if he wasn't diving that much, I'd think of him as a brilliant player.. But he destroys the image he could have by being such a bastard!

And takes alot of the integrity of the World cup down the crapper with him...sad.

Yeah, it's sad in general how much this WC was influenced by cheating and diving. These negative parts of the tournament are in the media more often than good results and players.

Yep, and in all fairness, I'm not putting all the blame on Ronoldo...he's not the only one, just the highest profile one...speaking of fottie, I'm missing the second half...see ya!
