My band "Sinfonia"- New Song

Featured Replies

Me and DA BOYZ got together last Friday to write a new song. We havent played in over a year, or written anything, so we were surprised to find we had a new one finished in about an hour and then we played it.

I sing and play geetar. Obviously we used very poor recording equipment, so turn it down a bit if its buzzing too much.

Bridges

We stuck dirt with dirt, and made life right there

Who were we to

With crumbled rock and crumbled seeds

To see where it takes us

Where we are now

The silence is haunting

I want to know where we go now

A silhouette, I'm still awake

And fearful for the day I'm cold

Bleed til I'm cold

Bleed til I'm cold

We placed a head on a stick

And called it our own, slow burn

With tumbleweed and carved trees

Called it out home

Thats where we'd grow, and get old

In Iveni, I believe

But its all over, now.

Abandoned home

With animals and bottle tops

Warmed by the fire, you and me

Its too warm to breathe

But its all over, until we're awake

Wind blows dust, over the silence

When we built a bridge, over the river

We got to other side, and knocked it down

And looked back one day

Knocked it down...

And now we're here, on the other side

Downloading now. Have you got your hands on the old stuff yet?

Nah, thats regression. Thanks a lot

 what's regression mean? I said something wrong didn't I?

  • Author

Hahaha! I didnt realise how that looked.

Genuinely, thanks a lot for downloading it, no sarcasm.

Regression is the opposite of progression, if I get a hold of the old songs I'll hear them and revert back to that, when we should move forward!

Oh I get ya.

51% downloaded. Must be a long song. You feel nervous don't you? because your song is about to be judged.

  • Author

Haha, a little bit. But a lot of people are judging it online right now (mainly on MSN).

I feel more nervous before playing a small gig infront of friends, definately.

Who wouldn't? I find it hard to show off anything in public.

Ooooo it's finished.

Overall the song reminds me a lot of something, but I can't put my finger on it.

Intro was good but for a bit after the drums come in it sounded a bit off-time.

Loved the slow bit just before the singing.

Song flowed very well.

Singing was great, loved the falsetto, sounded very good. Slightly off-key in a few bits I think.

The " Thats where we'd grow, and get old In Iveni, I believe

But its all over, now." bit is excellent, love that bit.

Goes into the end very well.

All that I expected and more. :nice:

And I had to throw in constructive criticism above because I daresay you probably wanted some.

This song is a grower as well, already after listening to it like 3 times every time it is getting better.

Jolly good.

Great review! I agree about the singing, I'm improving though, I used to be totally awful and off key in all bits.

Thanks very much Sam, enjoy.

Dear God I hope that happens to me. I recorded myself playing/singing Karma Police yesterday and thought it was good and then listened and it was like wtf was that?

  • Author

Ooooh tell me about it, it takes years and years.

I was an ok singer around my early teens, and then when I was like 16 or so, fucking awful. And it was heartbreaking to listen back to it.

I've had to focus really hard on getting better, really hard. I cant actually sing, I'm pretty much just talking and bluffing.

I'm pretty much just talking and bluffing.

lol, trust me, you can sing. :wink3:

Have you ever tried singing like all that Simple Plan and Green Day crap? I always wondered why there are is pretty much 1 band with 50 names. It's because it is soooo easy to sing like that. I did it once being an idiot and people went "woah, that was good" and then I said "I am never doing that again."

So now my belief is that all of those bands tred to be something else and failed and took the easy route.

But now I'm just spamming up the thread.

  • Author

Spam it up, brother, have to keep us brothers on top. shoo

I havent tried singing like that, and I dont know if I could bring myself to it (Im not kidding)

I'm so ashamed of myself.

It's funny coz I have this friend who is really annoying and I have no respect for his taste in music really but never tell him that. And he is just obsessed with Green Day and sings exactly like Billy-Jo something or other. But it amuses me because we somehow ended up in the school choir (indirecty because we play guitar) and it being a Catholic school we sang some song: "Jesus I believe in you" etc. (that's not a joke) and he has some Green Day thing going and it sounds terrible. I laughed on the inside.

End Pointless Story.

  • Author

Hahahaha no, that sounds pretty funny. In fact I can visualise! Using my mind!

I was asked to be in the choir, but choirs are gay. First you sing like Bill Jo Armstrong or whatever his name is, and then I discover you've been in a choir! Gahd!

:uhoh:

The truth comes out.

We won the eisteddfod though (music comp for schools in the district.) And people kept licking the trophy which was a lump of wood. Strange, strange people.

Still loving "Bridges." Nice lyrics by the way, care to explain them?

Bill Jo Armstrong or whatever his name is

haha, you know that is his name, you're just trying to be cool.

  • Author

Haha I knew it was Billy Jo something, but I thought Billy Jo Armstrong is a different guy (Which I still think he is) and used him for comical effect.

Still loving "Bridges." Nice lyrics by the way' date=' care to explain them?[/quote']

Sure!

Its about me staying in a girls room for like a month, and then moving back to Ireland for the summer and basically its like getting cut off from eachother one morning. Its very odd, that.

The lyrics would give the impression that I REALLY miss her, but Im ok, I still like her and look forward to seeing her again.

The song is pretty much about her room, which of course is just a flat, not a place in the woods made of carved trees and tumbleweed haha. The most important lyric is this, to me:

When we built a bridge, over the river

We got to other side, and knocked it down

And looked back one day

Its about getting over that river to our new home, and building a bridge to get there (Just chopping a tree down over the river to walk across) and wrecking the bridge by tossing it in the river, so we'll never leave. Its like getting married. Haha that gives the impression its a lot more dramatic then it is, I never planned on getting married or 'growing old' with her and I still dont even think of it, but yknow, traditional songwriting effect always jazzes things up.

There are odd hints of frustration;

With animals and bottle tops

Warmed by the fire, you and me

Its too warm to breathe

Yeah, sometimes it got a little too warm in that room. Kinda needed my space sometimes.

Heres the lyrics that were cut, on the final verse (After what is now the ending):

I'll never forget the day

You wanted to make another bridge

But its still there

Did we leave the tumbleweed and trees

For the soil?

Its still there

Thats about making another bridge, to get away from our little home and eachother. I actually was the one who left her that morning, because my boat left before her car was going to come, so odd that I wrote that, but still, jazzed up effect.

So I'm saying that she wanted to make another bridge, which we did, and now we're out, but the 2nd bridge we made is still there, and we can go back to our home.

Woulda been a nice lyrical ending but bad in terms of the song (Long enough already) So it got chopped.

The girl, and home this song was created about:
