Once upon a time when I was a little girl, my parents sat me down and gave me a long speech about how rock music was evil and it was a sign of the end times that people didn't only listen to classical music and that I was a bad person if I ever liked modern music. I've heard that speech many times over the years, and not only from my parents.

 

When I grew up I realised that I really didn't agree with that. Any genre of music is what you make of it. I've heard the __ is bad speech too many times to take it seriously anymore from my parents or overzealous Radiohead fans, because frankly I don't see too much difference between the two camps- different motivation, same idea. Pure snobbery.

 

So you have to understand, I get reeeealy annoyed when people tell me what I'm not supposed to like.

 

Fact is I've taken to Radiohead like no band I've ever come across before in my life. I like it more than almost anything else. I was listening to "Where I end and You Begin" for the first time the other day in complete awe wondering why on earth it took me so many years to finally listen to them- something I really, really, really regret.

 

Now I remember, it's the same reason I don't like Star Trek anymore and don't usually let on that I still like classical music - the fans scare me.

 

Good job, guys. You'd make a Trekkie proud.

that conversation or however you call it on youtube was basicly about the Muse - Radiohead comparison

 

we had a debate in this thread about "who's better and who do you prefer". i/someone else did not mention in this thread anything about comparison

yes i understand what you mean, but not every RH fan is like that and especially not ONLY RH fans. just go to the official Coldplay forum, you'll find many ignorant bitches, like myself here, there as well, they will tell you if they don't like "your" music ;)

 

i don't really know the Muse fans, because i've never been at Muse forums, but on this forum as far as i see: Muse fans are nice people

 

the truth is: there's a lot of nice RH fans, many many nice Muse fans...buta LOT OF ignorant fans from both fanbases. i'm sure ;)

I've never posted on any muse messageboards and only looked at the radiohead ones a little but I agree that the radiohead fans I did see were rather rude compared to coldplay or dave matthews band fans but the fans don't make the music. and some forums are different from others. Like the official coldplay forums are different from coldplaying

yea, atease was the first one I checked out I think... the official radiohead forum people are awful, but it's funny..... I asked a simple question to them and got bashed right away from every corner, it was like walking into a pen with 100 bulls.... the people I noticed on atease were really funny, just a few of course were very cut-throat... but that seems to come with any big forum

Fine, forget I ever mentioned youtube... my point was that I had a problem with the general ATTITUDE expressed both on the youtube thing and in that you can't vote for Muse and be a Radiohead fan statement and ones following it - not any specific point. I mentioned youtube because I didn't want you to think I was aiming my statements specifically at you- when in fact I'm extremly grateful for all of the cool stuff you post around here and for doing the cup thing because it's been fun.

 

I DO however still stand by my statement that Radiohead fans remind me a bit of Trekkies with their stubborn, scarily irrational degree of devotion.

 

(For the sake of full disclosure this is coming from a convention-going LotR geek- we tend to think of trekkies as a form of pond scum that give honest geeks a bad rep.)

Nik can act like a decent guy on this board at times but when anything comes around to Radiohead he just doesn't want to respect anyone elses opinion.

Nik is the typical Radiohead fan that has been described on this board many times before.
