Maybe a stupid question about rapidshare etc...

Featured Replies

Well...maybe this is a stupid question,....

but....

is it illegal to download things that have been uploaded in rapidshare or megaupload or whatever?

I mean yeah it can't be legal...

but can I be punished for that....if I download stuff there?

It's legal to use rapidshare/megaupload because they are reputable companies. It depends on what you download.

It's like p2p software, the software is legal, but you can download illegal files

So what is if I download music albums?

They'll never find you in your Kaff!!:P

Um that depends. If you are downloading music from a band which endorses or condones free downloads of their music (ie Beastie Boys), then all is well.

But if you were going to download CD's from most commercial artists, (ie Metallica, which caused the infamous Napster to shutdown for sometime, and oppose free downloads of their music) then that would be illegal.

There are minor technicalites throughout each Countries Copyright acts, but the chances are the files you download will be illegal.

As has been said above, most countries are not to stringent in the upholding of their Copyright Laws, but still... :P

If you download the latest madonna album without paying for it, than it's illegal.

But if's it an unreleased album or an album by an artist who died 75 years ago, than it's legal because copyright laws are not in place.

Hehe......I came to this question today because my sister bought a software today......and I also should pay for this...ebcause I also want to have songs..

The main problem with using software is that it's dangerous.

And unless you are a major uploader, you won't get caught
