The greatest song in the history of the world. Maybe

Featured Replies

This could be tough ither way you do it...I mean Yellow is a great song. But is it greater than say Hey Jude, just because we're all Coldplay fans?

Ā

If it were my list, I'd ask people to suggest the 50 most influential songs of all time...songs that really shaped a large part of a musical era, in which case, Coldplay would be in there but maybe not on top.

Ā

It's a great idea though!!

Sorry for the double-post! Albums would be easier for sure!

i would go for albums :disappointed:

I said songs and my word is final :veryangry2: :veryangry2: :veryangry2:

Ā

Ehm... Ok.... Let's have albums, it's too easy though.

Maybe we could do it like a top 5 per person, and someone could compile them at some point.

Ā

that's a good idea, Tracie, but i'm not sure it would work well :\

Ā

if we'd be fair we would have to take all the music genres from pop to hard rock and from jazz to classical music...

Ā

favourite lists are the easiest to compose i guess :)

Five?... Only five?..

Ā

Well I suppose Nikky boy should manage it all. Since it was his idea and since he'd done something like that already, all this WC thing and all. So no need to vote for a president

:P

THat and you started the thread as I was posting my suggestion. Q and Mojo combine genres in alot of their lists...you can find A Kind Of Blue on the Same list as Blood On The Tracks. Anyway, glad you started the thread...it should be alot of fun...and work for you...lol. Do we post our lists directly in the thread or PM them to you??

Ā

yeah, forgot to mention that. you post your lists in that thread :)

Ā

hope will work, lol. actually it's not too much work for me. only after the deadline

Ā

though, i'll have holidays then, so i'll figure out it somehow

So we post five fave albums, that's it?..

So we post five fave albums' date=' that's it?..[/quote']

Nope. It's a new thread...should be a blast...

I'm not arguing your points about cover songs' date=' but it's been bugging me all day, so I looked it up, and, as I suspected, Cohen wrote all the lyrics for Hallelujah. Jeff Buckley didn't write any of them. I've been a Cohen fan for years, as well as a Buckley fan, but I thought maybe there was a buckley version I had missed. The lyrics as Buckley sings them appear in Cohen's poetry compilation Stranger Music. I'm not being picky, but since I notice you're one of the board's more knowledgable about music, I thought you'd like to know.[/quote']

Ā

Then you should know I feel miserable now. The Cohen lyrics i heard many times are :

Now I've heard there was a secret chord

That David played, and it pleased the Lord

But you don't really care for music, do you?

It goes like this

The fourth, the fifth

The minor fall, the major lift

The baffled king composing Hallelujah

Hallelujah

Hallelujah

Hallelujah

Hallelujah

Ā

Your faith was strong but you needed proof

You saw her bathing on the roof

Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew her

She tied you

To a kitchen chair

She broke your throne, and she cut your hair

And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

Ā

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Ā

You say I took the name in vain

I don't even know the name

But if I did, well really, what's it to you?

There's a blaze of light

In every word

It doesn't matter which you heard

The holy or the broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Ā

Ā

Ā

I did my best, it wasn't much

I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch

I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you

And even though

It all went wrong

I'll stand before the Lord of Song

With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah

Ā

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah

Ā

Ā

and Buckley's I heard are :

Ā

Well baby I've been here before

I've seen this room, and I've walked this floor,

I used to live alone before I knew you

I've seen your flag on the marble arch

And love is not a victory march

It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah

Ā

Hallelujah

Ā

Well there was a time you let me know

What's really going on below

But now you never show it to me do you

And remember when I moved in you

and the holy dove was moving too

And every breath we drew was Hallelujah

Ā

Hallelujah

Ā

Well maybe there“s a God above

But all I've ever learned from love

Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew you

And it's not a cry that you hear at night

and it's not somebody who's seen the light

It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah

Ā

Hallelujah Hallelujah

Ā

But if you say they've been written and sung by Leonhard Cohen, i can't do anything but believe you.

I really thought the last three verses were from Jeff Buckley.

5 random Radiohead songs >>> Oasis' discography

  • Author

If Kerrang magazine did a top 100 songs poll the reasults will be different, if the NME did a top 100 songs poll the results will be different, if MOJO did a top 100 songs poll the results would be different. if Virgin Radio did a top 100 songs poll, the results would be different

Ā

It all depends on whom the magazine readership is, and who is hot at the moment, there will never be a fixed "top 100 songs", because people's opinions change. If Q did a similar poll in 2008, it will be different, some of the songs there now wouldn't be there.
