If it were my list, I'd ask people to suggest the 50 most influential songs of all time...songs that really shaped a large part of a musical era, in which case, Coldplay would be in there but maybe not on top.

Jeff Buckley didn't write any of them. I've been a Cohen fan for years, as well as a Buckley fan, but I thought maybe there was a buckley version I had missed. The lyrics as Buckley sings them appear in Cohen's poetry compilation Stranger Music. If Kerrang magazine did a top 100 songs poll the reasults will be different, if the NME did a top 100 songs poll the results will be different, if MOJO did a top 100 songs poll the results would be different. if Virgin Radio did a top 100 songs poll, the results would be different

 

It all depends on whom the magazine readership is, and who is hot at the moment, there will never be a fixed "top 100 songs", because people's opinions change. If Q did a similar poll in 2008, it will be different, some of the songs there now wouldn't be there.
