Still doesn't hide the fact:

1. That it probably wasn't even a foul.

2. Even if it was, it was clearly outside the box.

3. Russia cheated with their plastic pitch.

;)

Yet your forgetting Rooney's goal was off-side :P

So the 2 cancel each other out, but I agree about the pitch, if it's alright for a Uefa european championship qualifier then why isn't it alright for the final of the chump's league?

Yet your forgetting Rooney's goal was off-side :P

No it wasn't.

You will find it was offside.

SPL matches called off for Scots

The Scottish Premier League has agreed to postpone two fixtures to aid Scotland's chances of defeating Italy in their vital Euro 2008 qualifier.

But it has criticised the Scottish FA for refusing to compensate the clubs.

SPL chairman Lex Gold said: "It is a matter of considerable disappointment that the SFA has refused to help defray the costs which will be incurred."

The Celtic v Falkirk and St Mirren v Rangers games were scheduled for the weekend before the 17 November match.

Donadoni said his players would not crumble at Hampden

Scotland v Italy

Hampden Park, Glasgow

Saturday, 17 November

Kick-off: 1700 GMT

Scotland manager Alex McLeish is expected to choose just one striker for Saturday's vital Euro 2008 qualifier - with James McFadden favourite to start.

McLeish has not revealed his selection, but McFadden is likely to be given the nod ahead of Kenny Miller.

Both strikers have played a key role for Scotland during this campaign.

Italy's only fitness worry is AC Milan defender Massimo Oddo, with the experienced Christian Panucci of Roma ready to step in at right-back.

Skipper Fabio Cannavaro has recovered from a thigh strain and he will be partnered in central defence by Andrea Barzagli, who stands in for the injured Marco Materazzi.

Fabio Grosso has shaken off an ankle problem and might get the left-back slot ahead of Gianluca Zambrotta, who has also returned from injury.

Italy coach Roberto Donadoni is unlikely to allow a cold to deny Gennaro Gattuso a starting place in midfield along with AC Milan team-mates Massimo Ambrosini and Andrea Pirlo.

Mauro Camoranesi and Antonio Di Natale are expected to fill the wide roles in support of central striker Luca Toni.

There will be few surprises in the Scotland team, with McLeish having a fully fit squad at his disposal.

"You always have to make hard decisions," said McLeish, when asked about his starting XI.

"If it goes for us it's a tremendous decision. If it doesn't go for us people will pass judgement."

If both strikers start, McLeish will have to disappoint at least one of his regulars in midfield.

With Rangers pair Barry Ferguson and Lee McCulloch certain starters and Scott Brown appearing to have cemented his place, that would leave Paul Hartley and Darren Fletcher vying for the one remaining spot.

Fletcher was on the bench as Manchester United beat Blackburn 2-0 at the weekend.

Hartley, along with Celtic team-mate Brown and the Rangers players, benefitted from the Old Firm's Scottish Premier League games being postponed at the weekend.

"The lads who are playing are happy. The lads who are not playing are disappointed," said defender David Weir, who is sure to start alongside Stephen McManus.

"But I think the secret of this squad is that everybody has contributed and everybody has played their part.

"There are 11 lads who are starting the game but I'm sure during the game there will be people introduced who will contribute as well."

Scotland (likely): Gordon, Hutton, Weir, McManus, Naysmith, Brown, Ferguson, Fletcher, McCulloch, Hartley or Miller, McFadden.

Italy (likely): Buffon, Oddo or Panucci, Cannavaro, Barzagli, Grosso or Zambrotta, Pirlo, Gattuso, Ambrosini, Camoranesi, Toni, Di Natale.

Israel could hold key for England

England's Euro 2008 fate could lay in the hands of Israel and Russia

Israel v Russia

Ramat Gan Stadium, Tel Aviv

Saturday, 17 November

Kick-off: 1800 GMT

England's chances of qualifying for Euro 2008 could effectively be decided on Saturday when Group E rivals Russia travel to Tel Aviv to face Israel.

A Russia win would almost certainly see them through, with England then needing an unlikely Croatia slip-up to qualify.

But England midfielder Gareth Barry says Israel will play to win, despite the fact they can no longer qualify.

"Every team does their best once they are out on the pitch and I'm sure that goes for Israel too," he said.

"Of course, when it comes to the Israel-Russia game, there is not much I can do except pray, keep the fingers crossed and hope for the result to go in our favour.

"But Tel Aviv is a difficult place to go and Israel are well organised, very tough to break down and can be dangerous in attack.

"Then, if the results over the weekend are beneficial to us, we have to make sure we make the most of being given another chance against Croatia next Wednesday."

Russia boss Guus Hiddink has insisted England "don't deserve to go through", adding: "They (Israel) have nothing to win but prestige, they have a good record at home and we have to go for it.

"But I like to be in a commanding position. If you have to stand back and wait on other results, you are in second position and I want to be in first position."

However, Chelsea boss Avram Grant, who guided Israel to the brink of World Cup qualification in 2006, believes his former charges can get a result against Russia.

"It won't be easy for Russia to win," he said. "Don't forget, Israel didn't lose one game at home in the last campaign.

"Whenever a player pulls on the Israel shirt he is 100% committed to getting a result and I'm sure we will make it very tough for Russia."

England's 2-1 defeat in Russia a month ago left their hopes of qualifying for the finals in Austria and Switzerland hanging by a thread.

Qualification is out of England's hands, with Croatia aware that merely a draw against Macedonia on Saturday would see them through to Euro 2008.

Russia, meanwhile, know wins over Israel and Andorra would also see them qualify at England's expense.

England are relying on one of the following three scenarios in order to qualify:

If Russia fail to beat Israel on Saturday, a win for England over Croatia next Wednesday would see them through.

If Russia beat Israel, but then slip to a shock defeat to Andorra next Wednesday, again an England win over Croatia would see them through

If Russia beat Israel and Andorra, England's only hope would be to finish above Croatia. They would therefore need Croatia to lose in Macedonia on Saturday and for them to then beat Slaven Bilic's side 2-0 or by three clear goals to progress

But the chances of Israel doing them a favour in Tel Aviv have been hit by the absence of Liverpool midfielder Yossi Benayoun, who is out of the match with an adductor tear.

And it has been reported that Israel's first team played the reserves in a full-blown practice match on Thursday and lost 2-1.

Conspiracy theories have also led many to conclude a win for Hiddink's men is a foregone conclusion.

Russia and Israel have strong sporting links, with Chelsea billionaire owner Roman Abramovich a benefactor of the game in Tel Aviv as well as in Moscow, prompting claims Israel could take it easy in the match.

Reports suggest Abramovich himself has purchased 1,000 tickets for the match.

With less than £1m worth of gate receipts having so far been generated, more than £500,000 worth of tickets had been sold to Russians, meaning Israel's home advantage could be lost.

The choice of referee - replacing German Herbert Fandel for Italian Stefano Farina at the last minute - has also attracted speculation.

Fandel was accused of bias against Spartak Moscow in Celtic's 1-1 draw in August.

But Israel coach Dror Kashtan vehemently denied any suggestion that his side would be seeking anything other than a win.

"We read about irrelevant speculations but I'm certain every player will go out to win the game for us," said Kashtan, a claim backed up by squad members Ben Sahar and Yoav Ziv.

And former Israeli international Ronnie Rosenthal told BBC Sport: "Israel have not lost many games at home and I know all the Israeli players are very, very motivated for the game."

Either way, England coach Steve McClaren "fully expect us to have qualified for the campaign" he told BBC Radio 5 Live.

And with Hiddink admitting his side "still have a lot of work to do", McClaren and the rest of England can only hope Israel fulfil their pre-match promise when the two sides meet at 1800 GMT on Saturday.

CHEATERS

THAT WAS NEVER A FREE KICK

So much much did the Ref cost you?

Blatant cheating Italians

good effort by Scotland but the Italian defence were too strong for them

Scotland 1-2 Italy

Italy looked below average for World Champions, was it the rain? :stunned:

CHEATERS

THAT WAS NEVER A FREE KICK

So much much did the Ref cost you?

you can argue that both Scotland's goal and Italys disallowed effort were both offside, Italy were 1-0 winners really
  • Author

It wasn't the defence that was strong, it was the Ref awarding that free-kick to the wrong team. Chiellini fouled Hutton, not the other way round.
