Al Gore: Fresh fuel for thought

wow you are pretty freaking ignorant "these guys dont listen to science" wtf is that??

Of course i understand the process of heating up and cooling down, and that before every ice age there has been a gradual heat increase.

Im talking about the man made toxins that are increasing every day, and the widening hole in the ozone. How do you explain the hole in the ozone? oh wait its socialism, people believing that what we are doing to the environment is wrong!!! we are doing JUUUUUST fine, we will do something about the oil situation when we run out!:veryangry:

Yes, im ignorant for listening to scientific environmentalism NOT scientific socialism. I go by true science not tainted by politics.

We are having no affect that is hurting nature in regards to the climate, science backs that up.

Science is science. You cant argue with it.

Aye, science is a broad church, I listen to both what you call scientific socialism and scientific environmentalism and I'm a keen reader of http://www.treehugger.com/

and I have a degree in engineering :)

Theres your first problem, listening to treehugger.com

My main point in this thread was to show Gore does not know what he's talking about.

so scientific environmentalism doesn't have political involvement and scientific socialism has no fundamentals? that makes no sense. anything that means anything has political involvement. science has been wrong many times, who knows if this is an exception or not, but i think you are "ignorant for listening to scientific environmentalism" and not seeing it from all angles.

i don't know all the facts about global warming but i do know it's a lot hotter now than it was a decade ago and icebergs and glaciers don't just melt for no reason. if it is the earth's own natural process then good for the earth, but we certainly are contributing to global warming. there is waaaay more evidence, and i don't just mean the media, but the undeniable fact i can feel on my own skin it's getting hotter. there are a lot of greenhouse gases, hyrocarbons, that we contribute to the environment. i simply think we should control our usage and reasonably do what we can until we find an alternative way to ensure we aren't running ourself hot.

^ Gore may not have all the facts and i agree it isn't the best thing to go as far as making a movie about something he doesn't know all the facts about, but it's something that's brought attention to an extremely important issue (then again, it's importance is a personal perspective).

and i doubt he'd be so public about it if he didn't "know what he's talking about".

I've seen both angles, one uses science the other uses well far out theories not backed by facts or science.

The earths warming is a natural process in which humans have little affect on. Its getting warmer but thats what happens when we come out of a ice age. the earth has gotten very cold on its own and warmed up to be ALOT hotter then it is now on its own without humans involved.

far out theories unsupported by facts or science that a man who could've become the american president is using. that makes no sense.

in australia we have broken our temperature records and continue to do so year by year and our winters are hardly winters anymore.

could you provide a link or something about where and when it has been "ALOT hotter then it is now on its own without humans involved" ? just so i can see it from all angles, of course...........

Ok, im going to bed its 4:30 am but i shall get up tomorrow and find you some sources and post them. so check back later. Good night.

ahh what the hell ill post some now

"Beyond a shadow of a doubt, environmentalists want people (especially those living in capitalist countries) to believe their conduct is causing global warming and, thus, destroying our planet. Therefore, environmentalism has capitalism in its crosshairs."

Scientific Climate Facts

* Since its creation, earth has been going through climate changes experiencing several ice ages and global warming trends most without mankind even being on the planet.

* A mini-ice age, which began about 1300, ended in about 1800. Temperatures, as you would expect, have risen since then by about .5 degrees Celsius. Man was using very little hydrocarbons in the 1800’s.

* NASA’s satellite and NOAA’s oceanographic and surface measuring devices indicate that there has been no measurable global warming for the past 50 years. (The UN’s computer models have been consistently wrong in temperature predictions. Before 1990 they predicted temperatures would rise by .8 degrees Celsius [about 2 degrees Fahrenheit] per decade. By 1990, they lowered that estimate to about .3 degrees Celsius, and in 1995 they again lowered their predictions to .2 degrees Celsius increases per decade. All of them were wrong.) In fact, there is a body of evidence that indicates that over the past 20 years there has actually been a slight cooling.

* According to scientists at MIT and NASA, water vapor – not carbon dioxide – is a greater regulator of global temperatures than carbon dioxide. In fact, there is a body of evidence that shows that not only is carbon dioxide absolutely crucial to the health and growth of vegetation through photosynthesis, but actually contributes to filtering the suns rays (see the records of the U.S. Historical Climatology Network which go back to 1890).

* 15,000 of the world top climatologists, geologists, meteorologists, physicists, and others have signed a petition denouncing the Kyoto Treaty.

* NAS published a report in January of 2000 that stated that the atmosphere showed no warming since 1979.

* We are simply experiencing what the planet has gone through since it was established -- natural atmospheric swings.

* Dr. Singer stated in his comments opposing the NAS study that “…none of the many proxy measurements (tree rings, ice cores, etc) shows any warming trend after 1940.” He states further that “…the available evidence directly contradicts the idea that humans have made and are making substantial contributions to temperature changes.”

* In an article written by Alan Caruba, a respected science and business writer, he pointed out that in previous eras the concentration of carbon dioxide was five times higher than today without human existence. For over 100 million years it sustained the dinosaurs and produced lush vegetation.

* Dr. Richard S. Lindzen states that the summary of the NAS report on climate change as reported by CNN’s Michelle Mitchell, claiming that the NAS panel unanimously agreed “…that global warming is real, is getting worse, and is due to man,” is absolutely wrong.

* Records cold temperatures over the past few years have killed thousands in Siberia, northern India, Inner Mongolian, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Norway, Sweden, Finland and elsewhere.

* Floridians have complained bitterly that they could not remember a winter as cold as the past few. Many orange groves in north central Florida no longer produce fruit and the frost line is moving further south, as is the case in many other areas in the Northern Hemisphere.

* In the U.S., we recorded the lowest two-month average temperature ever in November and December of last year.

Fact: Climate Changes are invevitable, and cyclical, and recurrent, and unpreventable.

For example, long before man could have possibly had any measurable impact upon the earth's environment, The Middle Ages hosted a Warm Trend far greater than our current trend, which may actually be a cooling trend, depending upon your data and TIME HOIRIZON.

Man Made Global Warming Debunking News and Views

Global warming claims 'based on false data'

FRESH doubt has been cast on evidence for global warming following the discovery that a key method of measuring temperature change has exaggerated the warming rate by almost 40 per cent.

Studies of temperature records dating back more than a century have seemed to indicate a rise in global temperature of around 0.5 ° C, with much of it occurring since the late 1970s. This has led many scientists to believe that global warming is under way, with the finger of blame usually pointed at man-made pollution such as carbon dioxide.

>Research should not be dismissed by sceptics

>Scientists' discoveries give lie to doom-monger predictions

Now an international team of scientists, including researchers from the Met Office in Bracknell, Berkshire, has found serious discrepancies in these temperature measurements, suggesting that the amount of global warming is much less than previously believed.

^^ LOL

so i've thought about it and in some way i wasn't looking at it from all angles. most, but not all. a bunch of articles aren't enough to convince me but i am open-minded about other 'facts', i probably could find a load of articles to counter that but it proves nothing. althought i still think the founding principles surrounding global warming are true, it is not so cut and dry as many believe. with a topic so big as this, it's hard to gather all facts and have a resolution. keep in mind what this thread is about, Al Gores movie preaching the dangers of global warming. until we've seen the film, i doubt we can comment on whether he knows what he's talking about or not. he is a politican and most of the time they present facts for shock value for some indirect way of gaining support. i really wouldn't know...but i agree the earth goes through weather cycles that have occured waay before man was even around, but i also agree that human intervention in creating hydrocarbons and other greehouse gases hasn't helped us either. i remain to think we shouldn't just assume everything is going to be ok and proceed to do whatever we want to the environment.

  • 2 weeks later...

I watched his interview on fifth gear (which has got even more shitter), and what he said about humans causing global warning by driving cars (off set by a nifty fact that the plane which carried mr Gore over to the Uk put more out into the atmosphere in that single flight than the interviewer (Tim Lovejoy)'s car does in one year.

Global Warning is a myth, the earth over time has warm up and cooled down due to it's position in the solar system.

I challenge one of those "we should ban cars" think-tank idiots to live for 3 months out in the country, where public transport is next to near crap and you need your car, to live without a car for those 3 months.
