best friend...not a friend...

Have you ever had a situation when you meet someone, become friends and become soon best friends? but then later you and your 'best friend' stops keeping in touch, meeting and soon you don't talk to them and that leads to a different way of splitting with friends.:D

well i have a long time friend who i met the first day of orientation week at uni, and that was roughly 2 years ago and although we don't talk for months, we can meet up randomly and carry on as if we just saw each other yesterday. i love friendships like that, plus it helps that he's the greatest guy to be around :nice:

on the other hand, i have a friend who i've known since primary school and considered really close, then we parted after high school and now we have a weird relationship where she has her friends and i have mine. when we meet nowadays, i'm struggling to find something to talk about...it's a shame really.

i take it you're in a similar situation?

yes:)

oh lol well did you stop keeping in touch because of distance? that always seems to happen, but i think it's also a show of how strong the friendship was to begin with. true friends always stay connected imo :nice:

People drift apart and friends and acquaintances are often replaced by new ones as a result of changes in your life. It happens all the time.

yeah, I guess friends do come and go...:)

of course they do... it's natural because ppl change all the time

but there those special few that stick :D

I have a friend that's been a really good friend of mine all my life

Yes...its a shame because I really love talking to this person but I never get the chance to catch up anymore because of study etc. I wouldn' t say we were bestfriends though but we were extremely close...

yeah, studies, school, work etc. sometimes gets in the way...:)

yeah but i can't take the excuse that 'studies get in the way' seriously. i just can't imagine anyone spending every waking hour studying, and that they can find no time to spend with friends. i think the 'i'm busy' excuse is overly used and is a way to get out of something so easily. now and then is understandable, but if it becomes an expected answer then it's not a 50/50 friendship which is should be. don't waste your time on those people, just remember your earlier fond memories and press forward to make new ones :nice:

friends will always make time for you, if they truly care about you, and a real friend always considers your feelings. where there's a will there's a way

^^ aww, that's so nice! I agree with you, StarsKay!

I have a friend and I was quite close to her during primary school (but we never were best friends) and now we don't see each other very often, but when we do, we usually have fun. though we have completely different people around us.

yes I know that.......all those friends who have become my best friends quite easily exploited me......and are not my "best" friends anymore......but the best friends i have now...I have known them for such a long time.......but they are my best friends since some years...

when i think about it, soooo many best friends have come and gone in my life

i had never noticed that, it makes me wonder

once, my best friend that used to but no we're not so close anymore, told me that i push ppl away from me once it gets too close. I dont think that's true, i think that it's just that i've changed so much these past 6 years that it was inevidable that my friends would also change

like i mentioned before, there's only one really good friend of mine that's been really close to me all my life.

That's happened to me tons of times... I move a lot and I'm not very good at keeping in touch with people. xP

I'm afraid it's happening again. :dead:

yeah I've been in that situation...i knew my best friend since grade 5..i met her during the summer holidays with a few of her new friends after a good year of seeing her last and she changed so much. she thought that she might've been pregnant and ended up ditching me for her boyfriend. i didn't know how to handle that..but it turned out that she wasn't and i haven't talked to her since... hopefully your situation turned out different than that...

A lot, probably most people, do come and go, it's just part of life.

But then are a handful of people I could not ever replace, and they're the ones I want to hang on to.

People drift apart and friends and acquaintances are often replaced by new ones as a result of changes in your life. It happens all the time.

Hmmm don't say that..:(

so that means I'll be left with no friends soon then:thinking:
