The Good, The Bad & The Queen - Herculean

"Herculean" is the first forthcoming single from The Good, The Bad & The Queen's debut self-titled album which will be released on 17th January of 2007.

That album is already one of the most anticipated albums of the next year and described as "shuffling, folktronic delight" by the NME.

We all know that Damon Albarn is a genius. His achievements with Gorillaz and especially with Blur are unquestioned. 2 pop/rock groups with different sounds. But how will his 3rd project sound like?

After first listenings i can say that Damon's still in his top form. "Herculean" is something between Blur and Gorillaz. Britpop, but not really at all, indie rock, but not truly. Probably, the most experimental and the most interesting music Damon had ever created. And if to all this we add the other members: Simon Tong (ex-guitarist and ex-keyboardist of The Verve), Paul Simonon (ex-bassist of The Clash) and Tony Allen (African drummer), we get a new band with potential to be one of the best in the beginning of 21st century.

Their first single has everything to prove me.

Bloody brilliant song!

On 26th of September' date=' after 5 years waiting, Sparklehorse have finally released their 4th album with the title [i']"Dreamt For Light Years In The Belly Of A Mountain"[/i].

It's a quite, modest and a very pleasant record. It's a chill-out album, after all. If you are tired of the upbeat electronical music, noisy guitars and loud vocals, this is an album for you. Although, you won't bore yourself, this album also has some rock songs like "Ghost In The Sky" and "It's Not So Hard".

Overally, it's a very good album. Not the best of the year, either Sparklehorse's best, but memorable, and what is more important: enjoyable. From the first seconds of the opener "Don't Take My Sunshine Away" till the last seconds of the album closer's instrumental track"Dreamt For Light Years In The Belly Of A Mountain" you won't regret that you gave this album a chance...at least i didn't.

Probably, the most talented British indie band nowadays.

They produce a mix of guitar pop/rock and post punk which is very enjoyable.

Among their influences obviously might be bands like Joy Division, Echo and The Bunnymen and especially The Smiths.

During listening to them you can really relax and enjoy the best guitar pop of 2000s.

They have 2 albums ("The Decline Of British Sea Power" (2003) and "Open Season" (2005) ), both of them are worth to listen to, believe me!

These guys are really great, check them out if you haven't yet!

Song Of The Week (2006/10/18 - 2006/10/25):

Sufjan Stevens - Majesty Snowbird

A week from Ondes Martenot's life

Day 1: "hmmm, new Sufjan song, i should give it a listen, i guess. downloading now, will listen to it tomorrow.

Day 2: "wow! this is a very good song, a real surprise from Sufjan, it's a real epic, gonna listen to it now once again, i think"

Day 3: "OMG! i still listen to this song, though last time i listened to Avalanche was 2 months ago. god, Sufjan rocks. this is the best song i've heard from him this year!

Day 4: "okay, Majesty Snowbird is a real Sufjan classic! it's better than anything he's written yet. god, probably it's too early to say this: but it is the best song of all Sufjan Stevens songs. this was a good day, diary

Day 5: "now seriously, this is the best song i've heard this year. it beats anything from Drum's Not Dead, Return To Cookie Mountain and The Eraser"

Day 6: "this is one of the best songs ever written"

Day 7: "Song Of The Week (2006/10/18 - 2006/10/25)..."

Jenny Lewis and The Watson Twins - Rabbit Fur Coat

I didn't actually know which album to recommend this week. Wanted to listen to the new Califone, but didn't have a chance, maybe next week.

Back to topic. This is not a new one, was released some months ago, but i've discovered it only some days ago. Listened to it 2-3 times, was pleased. First of all, i did not expect too much. Jenny Lewis is a beatiful woman with exceptional and very pleasant voice. Probably, that was the onliest reason i gave this album a chance. My favourite moments on the album are: "Melt Your Coat", "You Are What You Love" and a Traveling Wilburys cover "Handle With Care" which surprisingly is very good in my opinion. Although, probably Jenny shouldn't has involved Ben Gibbard and Conor Oberst into the recording of this cover. The whole collaboration turned out as an imitation of the original song what is negative in my eyes if someone covers someone. But it's another story and i love this song in any form, so fuck off, Ondes.

*goes and listens to the album*

Overally, it's a good country/folk/pop album

Animal Collective are probably the most original music artists of the last 3-4 years.

They are a quite interesting band which experiments in many things. The genre of their music is something between folk and indie pop with some psycho rock effects. But at the same time neither of those. It's impossible to describe their music style actually, they are inventing their own unique sound, so don't be surprised if we'll have a music genre called Animal Collective in some years.

If you are looking for catchy indie songs, then pass them and don't read further.

If you are looking for meaningful lyrics, then forget Animal Collective.

You'll need time to love them, they are not an easy band to listen to. They will never be your favourite band unless you are a really weird person. But the simple and at the same time twisted brilliance of their music will get you into them.

Creative is probably the best word to describe them.

After all, Animal Collective is about fun.

So if you are searching for some fresh, good sound to explore, then Animal Collective is your choice.
