well, trip hop is a genre that started in the 90's, and it is said that it originated from England, particulary from Bristol, where bands like Massive Attack, Portishead and Tricky started developing it. im not gonna go in details about the history of this genre, you can look up yourself in google or wikipedia, whatever.

i dunno if anybody here likes triphop, but i enjoy it very much, and there are some great artists and albums you guys should check out, if you are new to this genre. i'll give a list of bands/artists, a bit of their discography and albums you should check out (possibly, i will upload the albums, if i have time).

Air

One of the best bands to ever come from France in the genre of TripHop are obviously Air. Air is a french duo consisting of Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoit Dunckel. Their debut Ep, Premieres Symptomes was followed by the album "Moon Safari, one of the best albums to ever come in the genre of triphop. They've released other albums like The Virgin Suicides (also soundtrack of the movie with the same name), 10,000 Herz Legend, and Talkie Walkie. Still Moon Safari is considered their masterpiece.

Thievery Corporation

Thievery%20Corporation3.jpg

Thievery Corporation make abstract, instrumental, mid-tempo dance music somewhere between trip-hop and acid jazz. The production duo of Rob Garza and Eric Hilton, Thievery Corporation released a few warmly received singles on their own Eighteenth Street Lounge (ESL) label (named for their Washington, D.C. bar and nightclub) in 1996. Previously known primarily among acid jazz and rare-groove DJs, the group shot to minor celebrity when a track from one of their early 12"'s appeared on respected Dj/producers Kruder Dorfmeister's mix session for Studio K7's DJ Kicks series. Similar in many respects (and more than just number) to that Viennese production duo, Thievery Corporation subsequently grew in popularity among a wider audience of DJs and headphonaunts. Boozoo Bajou

boozoo_bajou_03.jpg

On the Nuremberg based Downbeat/Lounge/Nu Jazz Label STEREO DELUXE the group BOOZOO BAJOU released their 10 track debut album SATTA. Since 1997 the duo Peter Heider and Florian Seyberth aka BOOZOO BAJOU caught the eye of DJ's and other hipsters through the release of three twelve inch records (Night over Manaus, Under my Sensi & Divers) which brought a whole lot of club-play and smaller notification all over the world.

Two years later SATTA has sold more than 65.000 times all over the world excluding Bootlegs which surfaced in such strange places as Thailand. The album has turned into a classic and is described as a milestone for the downbeat scene. Those 10 tracks from SATTA can now be found on more than 120 CD compilations worldwide and the music was used on half a dozen top class tv adverts.

After bringing BOOZOO BAJOU on the road by djing all over the world in 2002 the group got lots of requests for a compilation CD of their favourite tracks by other artists. Subsequently they released JUKE JOINT a 20 piece mix compilation in spring 2003 which again got a worldwide positive feedback especially due to the wooden box which was the packaging for the limited edition. The release of THE REMIXES which was the last BOOZOO BAJOU closes the SATTA era for BOOZOO BAJOU. That CD features also recent remixes done by BOOZOO BAJOU for other artists like Tosca, Mousse T., Trüby Trio or Common & Mary J. Blige. [extract from hopez.com]

Gotan Project

42844580054.jpeg

Gotan Project is a musical group based in Paris, consisting of musicians Philippe Cohen Solal (French), Eduardo Makaroff (Argentine) and Christoph H. Müller (Swiss, former member of Touch el Arab).

They formed in 1999. Their first release was Vuelvo Al Sur/El Capitalismo Foraneo in 2000, followed by the album La Revancha del Tango in 2001. Their music is clearly tango, but also uses electronic elements such as samples, beats and breaks.

Live material was also broadcast on Gilles Peterson's world music show worldwide on BBC one in May 2004. Philippe Cohen Solal has also released a DJ set: Inspiración Espiración - A Gotan Project DJ Set Selected & Mixed by Philippe Cohen Solal (2004). This album is a compilation of classic tangos from the likes of Anibal Troilo and Astor Piazzolla and Gotan Project remixes. The album also includes a bonus CD with the track "La Cruz del Sur" - which was meant to be included on La Revancha del Tango, but didn't make the cut in 2001.

Well I only know one song by Air and this is playground love....and I love this song....so is it worth to listen to more of them?

It sure is. Try 'Moon Safari', many people think it's their best one... I love many others too though. Anyway, 'Ce Matin La', 'La Femme D'Argent' and 'Talisman' from 'Moon Safari' are just perfect

There's a band that I love, and I think makes Trip-Hop, but I'd like people who really know what Trip-Hop is to tell me if I'm right.

The band is called Archive. I think it's not very famous all around the world, but they released six studio albums already.

So, am I thinking the right way ?
