Reilly
Look up any BBC article you want, I dont really care, hes dead, hes been hanged. Just google it or something you must be dull if you havent heard (By tomorow morning at least). Does anyone, really care? I was shocked at first, initially. Actually well no, Im drunk, and didnt feel I was shocked. But I should be shocked, but really, does anyone care? He was dead to us all the moment he went into hiding, as a political figure, we may as well have just seen him as deceased the moment that happened. Whats more important is that the Iraqi's, well, I cant imagine any of them caring, at all. They certainly arent rejoicing, I could hardly imagine that. Yawer is like the weak replacement of someone who could at least handle a country. Yeah, I'm slightly, to the left, on that point. But where does Iraq go from here? Thats the actual worry. They were at least a country under control of their own economy, and their own trade, and now, they arent. They are nearing 3rd world delinquency. Any Iraqi citizen should worry about that. I can imagine the American government and press (Which is actually the same thing) promoting this as some sort of change or revolution, when it really isnt, because the subject matter, Iraq, is currently under a lot of indecision. For some reason, I'm concerned.
TraceOddity
Iraq used to be a country, barely held together, under the rule of an out-of-control dictator who killed without discression...Saddam Hussein. Now, Iraq is is a contry, splitting into fragments, run by a puppet govt. run by an out-of-control dictator who kills without discression...George W. Bush. An evil man dies tonight...for all the wrong reasons, and you are right to be concerned. Just my venting. There's an actual thread on here wth all our venting if you're interested, but I think you just summed it all up here quite nicely, Reilly. blackchickintheback
I'm concerned too. What's going to happen to our soldiers? They're in more danger now and it's not like we can pick up and leave. And some Iraqis were rejoicing. There was dancing around his body. But what scares the shit out of me is that people are celebrating NOW, but tomorrow...

busybeeburns
Some might say they've hanged the wrong people. However I don't agree; this is just the beginning for a peaceful Iraq, but the country isn't going to change overnight. Does anyone see the irony though, in exercising capital punishment in a country intended for democratic peace? Saddam should've got life inprisonment. burningmonk
A peaceful Iraq isn't going to happen in the forseeable future, thats for sure. The "democratic" government is too weak to stop the civil war thats going on. Things were better before.
Gitta Rensolo
obviously it must have been a big deal in the UK.,.....I ónly heard about this in the radio news this morning..... I was shocked don't ask me why....but I was.... not because I care so much about Hussein.... man it made me just think about death penalty in general and made me realize again that I'm against it this is totally random now....but I felt like posting this...since I felt so weird about it when I heard this.... I mean, granted the guy was an asshole... a tyrant... but he did keep the country in check... now the country has gone tits up!! I don;t know what's better. I think he should've paid for his crimes against humanity and the genocide he contributed to... but why is this hanging such news.... this is what disturbs me. he was still a human being...... do we really want to see this on tv??? ugadawg5
I can't believe some of you question the decision to have him hanged. Hussein got what was coming to him; it was amazing he lasted through the previous countless attempts at his life. If you are responsible for thousands upon thousands of deaths, you should die. Rot in hell.
GazeboflossUK
You can't believe some of us question the decision to have him hung? Why? There's many, reasons why he shouldn't have been executed....look beyond the crimes he's commited. We shouldn't be promoting the death sentence anyway. A sickening & gratuitous act of barbarism that's actually devoid of justice. Even if you take the least likely amount of dead reported, 45 innocent civilians have died every day in Iraq since 2003, when our countries went into Iraq to collect the 'WMD' that we gave him. (More detailed figures total 655,000 + dead) However, he had used all those weapons on his opponents, we have the money from those weapon sales....now he takes the fall for everything and our so-called 'governments' attempt take the moral high ground. It's purely backwards & wrong, with a cost to your people of more than $354,059,419,918 and more deadly violence to come.

amsterdam528
Mine as well. Punishments are called such so that they will teach one a lesson that they can learn from; when you're dead, there is no opportunity for that. I wasn't old enough to understand Saddam during the early 90s so I can't really have an opinion on him as a person, but I also find myself in disbelief that he is gone. Maldini
The punishment not only for the murderer, but also to the vectims and the society. 1- The punishement for rehabilitation the murderer. 2- The punishement for the lawful, humane and nature revenage to the victims. 3- The punishement for the general deterrence. This man caused the death for millions The bad thing in this issue that they hanged him along with the first day of Eid ul-Adha, which harmed alot of Muslims
