What's the meaning of 'Yellow'?

Featured Replies

Hello all, well I wanted to know what is the meaning of hit 'Yellow'?, I really have looked it up by all space and all website. Anyone knows its meaning? Please!!! :veryangry:

Some Coldplay's reference of yellow, haha. I need the true meaning :).

THanks in advance. :)

From VH1's Storytellers:

Chris: "This song came out of the blue, out of nowhere one night in Wales [..] and it used to go "Look at the stars, look how they shine for you and all the things you do" and there was this gap. [..] So I was sitting there singing the song and I looked at the nearest book to me, and it was the Yellow Pages.

In alternative universe, this song would be called 'Playboy', but it isn't. Thank godness that book was there."

So that's why :P Hope I was helpful ^^.

thats interesting, does that have a lot of the song meanings?

I guess. Unfortunately I just downloaded three songs (Yellow, Speed of Sound and In My Place), so I can't really tell. But for what it says in the VH1 website, it seems it does:

"Chris explained that "Yellow" was inspired by the Yellow Pages ("In an alternative universe this song would be called Playboy") and revealed "Speed Of Sound" was an attempt to rip-off Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill." It was a magical night for the introspective Britpop heavyweights. Don't miss!"

If you have a chance to download or watch Storytellers, it's brilliant. Chris talks more about the history of the songs than their meanings...a little of both. It's a great performance too.

In another interview, Chris also said the song is about platonic love. Hope that helps too.

Oh I'd love to see it sometime. Do you know anywhere I could download the full MP3 version from?

Thanks to all!!

Although I think that Chris talks about his usual humour....

I guess that Yellow is about platonic love

Ohh, you broke all my beautiful dreams with the yellow pages. I always loved that thing

does that mean chris wrote the Yellow Pages?

"I wrote a song for you, and all the things that you do....and it was called 'Yellow'"

hmmm, makes you think...could he be getting residuals on the side? if so, are those residual checks going toward MTF or something else? Hmmmmmmmmm ;)

I remember an interview in which Chris recalls an episode in his life in which his Uncle says to him something like «You might be rich, famous...but your lyrics are awful». Chris replied: «What do you mean?Everybody loves Yellow!» His Uncle answered that that song's lyrics don't mean anything at all.

Now Chris told this in a very good-humoured way, I am only saying what he told, dunno if he was just kidding.

I thought I remember hearing from someone that Chris wrote this song about his Golden Retriever he had...

Yellow pages, platonic love, a golden retriever???

I heard he wrote it after a meteor shower.

Which is the truth, Chris? :P

The confirmed story is the Yellow pages..

But where and what was the platonic love thing about?

Platonic love is the best kind:nice:

Yeah so this is an old discussion but I beg to differ with this..............................

I dont believe the whole song is about the yellow book....I think he meant the "blank" spot that he couldnt fill ...."looked and saw the yellow pages"....hence Yellow. Thats where Yellow came from...so yellow doesnt have a REAL meaning. BUT the song however I believe is about some type of platonic love. I think of it as if being a mother and my love for my children. Just a thought ..................:inquisitive:

I think the Oracle said that the Yellow Pages story isn't actually true after all. Silly Chris.
