'Offensive' SN07 car plate banned

The DVLA said the plates were changed to avoid offence

Car licence plates which bear the sequence SN07 were banned from the streets of Edinburgh because they are "offensive", it has emerged.

The plate had been due to follow on from the SN56 registration in March.

Licensing officials at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) changed the plate to TN07 to avoid it being similar to the word "snot".

The change means that cars registered in the capital are the only ones in Scotland not to begin with an S.

A DVLA spokesperson said the decision to change the plates was taken to avoid offending car buyers in the capital.

She added: "It is our policy that any registration mark that can be construed as being offensive to people will be suppressed.

"In this case, the SN07 marks would have been too similar to the word 'snot' and, as that could possibly offend some buyers, they were replaced with new TN07 registrations."

Don't these people have more important things to concern themselves with??

SN07 = SNOT

You can see the first 3 digits are the same, but when did a 7 become a T?

In the minds of dyslexics?

The dvla banning number plates isn't new.

Must be a slow news day.

A long time ago. It's l337. (leet) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leet

And a variation of leet has been used on vanity plates since before the internet, so...

:laugh3:

l337 does not say leet, it says l337

And what's the problem with "leet" anyway? Does it actually mean anything?

It means "stupid immature gamers think they're better than eveyone because the grownups can't read leet". :dozey: :laugh3: Don't bother telling them they look like morons. It doesn't work. I've tried.

I think I speak for us all when I say to the DVLA (in a very grown up and mature way).."Just fuck off you bunch of ninnying berks!"

BERK

Noun. An idiot, objectionable person. Derived from the rhyming slang Berkshire Hunt or Berkeley Hunt, meaning 'cunt'. Normally Berkshire and Berkeley would be pronounced Barkshire and Barkeley. This expression is generally accepted as inoffensive despite its source. Also 'burk'.

1. leet

A derivitave of the 80's software piracy scene. Originally "elite" was used to show status on a BBS. Commonly the people who cracked the software, or had sysop access on a board would be referred to as Elite. Later it became common to just use "leet." With the internet explosion it was later used to describe hackers as well as crackers. Due to it being great to be known as leet, newbies started adopting the term and using to describe themselves, often with numerical variations. Anyone who considers themselves "leet" should be able to tell you who/what Razor1911 is, anyone failing to answer this question should be laughed at.

"Wow, those guys that run this new board are leet, they had win 3.1 a week before it came out!"
