Coldplay: 'Our new album has Hispanic theme' (20070725)

Coldplay struggle with album sessions

Coldplay have gone to Spain to record their new album after sessions in their London studio proved to be a flop.

The British group - Chris Martin, Johnny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion - have been working on the follow-up to the acclaimed X+Y in their London studio for almost a year with disappointing results.

A band insider named Prospekt revealed on the group's official site: "When you place six strong-willed men in a small room for 10 months working 10 to 12 hours a day on something they care about passionately, friction is inevitable."

Frontman Chris, 30, decided the band should decamp to Spain to draw inspiration from the country's colourful history and vibrant culture.

The source continued: "Chris then came up with the idea of recording in Spain. The music and lyrics have begun to reflect the strengthening Hispanic theme.

"We're recording in Barcelona - moving from church to church setting up where we can. We're playing at the feet of archangels."

The group - who have notched up a staggering 30 million album sales worldwide - have also called on the talents of renowned producer Brian Eno, to help them rediscover their sound.

The insider added: "Brian drew up a list of all 25 pieces of music that have been worked on. We shared out thoughts about each and every track. The meeting was a ruthless dissection of all the work done so far. Very little material got the thumbs up."

The album is set to be released early 2008.

Haha

¡Que interesante!

No....no interesante.

Oh, boy...I hope this is one big fat joke and that I will be laughing at it once the new album is out. :uhoh2:

I thought a Bucket For A Crown was going to be on there, at least that song doesn't sound Hispanic.

So there's still hope!

Ai, caramba!

If the new Coldplay sounds anything resembling flamenco (or anything similar), I'm out, and calling it a day. But, if (like it says) the album just captures the energy and life of Barcelona, then we might be in for a treat.

Now, a shaker or 2 would be cool. And I'd be up for some new trippy rhythems (5/4, 7/8 anyone? I think yes). But beyond that, it'd more than likely end in complete mess.

I'm excited though.

i think this whole thing that new album is gonna sound spanish/hispanic/wherever they're recording has been taken too far by the press and stuff...they're recording in these places to capture the vibe and atmosphere, but i don't think for a second there will be any obvious signs of a flamenco or tango or anything that sounds obviously hispanic.

Haha, this news did make me laugh. I bet the guys in the band are laughing at the articles.

It'll be the least "Hispanic" sounding "Hispanic" album ever created.

Come on everyone, have faith in Coldplay they have released 3 hit Albums, this one will be even better, we haven't heard anything from it yet. Remember Chris said that their would be one song that if we didn't hear before they die then they would be really depressed/disappointed. So we got to hang in there and wait for its release!

Sorry bout the double post, camofire is right that the press take things so far. We saw that the other day when we read that Coldplay quit, yet the quote was out of context, so don't believe the press totally, i think there is sometimes a lot of bias, one way or another.

I guess that they would include just one or 2 "hispanic songs"

Like a experiment it seems like something good

Let´s give the the benefit of the doubt

I don't even think that there will be a song that can't be described as 'Hispanic'.

did you mean can instead of can't?

I think there won't be much of "Hispanic" sound to their songs but maybe they'll describe the culture or say something like "Walking down at the streets of Barcelona. I saw a pretty muchachita" :laugh3: I mean, on their lyrics....... :shifty:

You think or you hope?

i think the most hispanic it'll get is that part of it was recorded in Spain....

that's what i feel (:

i don't understand why some of us are getting a little too nervous over the fact that it's gonna be "Hispanic". It's not like they're gonna have sombreros and a Mariachi band...it's just the vibe and that it was recorded in a Hispanic country

You think or you hope?

Good question....uhhhhhhhhh:stunned:

it sound interesting, I hope they don't have too much pressure.

in one interview, chris said the pressure on x&y was horrible and that they won't work the same way on the new album.

here is the interview with Chris and Jonny.

:laugh3::laugh3: I agree... this is one of those media things where they take one vague comment and turn it into something huge. The website said itself that all it related to is a 'vibrancy' and 'colourfulness', which pretty much could mean anything and relate to any sound. It doesn't mean that the album will have any actual traditional spanish or south american sound to it.

This is just the same as when they reported that the band were all arguing and as a result had scrapped all their material. That was a total exaggeration of a report that the being in the studio for hours on end could at times be stressful and tense.

People shouldn't worrying - the media exaggerate everything! :)

Good question....uhhhhhhhhh:stunned:

 Me neither.

OH NO LOOK AT THIS PICTURE I FOUND ON COLDPLAY.COM
