In an ideal world if you had a wireless card you could log on anywhere for free and for however long you want for.

In France, we have a mobile phone provider that sells a USB Key to plug on your laptop and it also provides you Internet. The provider is called SFR. With a subscription you can have Internet worldwide. It's a French telephone provider so i don't think you have a subscription abroad. VODAFONE makes it too I think.

An other solution : you can buy a card to put on your computer, just get informed because i don't know exactly how it works but you can get Internet with a card under your computer. DELL has it on its lap-top. In the laptop 620 from DELL you may have Internet. The solution you're searching exists.

Check a lot of cell phone providers. A lot of them are getting into this kind of thing. I know that T-Mobile has this thing called "T-Mobile Hotspot" where they do just that, you join and pay a fee to get wi-fi internet in places like hotels, cafes, that sort of thing. AT&T have both hotspot service and wireless cards for laptops. Sprint has wireless cards, too.
