Coldplay and The Hardest Part

Featured Replies

D'you remember what Chris said on www.coldplay.com about The Hardest Past?

He said (when he posted the video) "terrible song, good video"...

Does Chris hate this song?

If it's right, why do they released it, and as a single?

I guess that "terrible" is negative, even if in French "terrible" can be negative AND positive...

So, what d'you think about it?

I don't think he hates it. It's just not one of his favorite songs! But we all know Chris is really modest, so he could write the most amazing song ever written and then say it's complete crap !!

Oh I bet they had a riot making that video. And don't listen to what Chris says. haha.

that's true, but... it's a fabulous song, it's sad to say something negative about it! ;)

come on Chris, appreciate your work!!!

I totally agree. :) He just has issues.

Yeh, Im sure its just modesty. I remember him saying that he can't listen to any of his music on the radio because he "hears all the mistakes".

...some pretty damn good sounding mistakes you got there mr martin...

haha, he puts himself down all the time. he seems to alternate between being condemnatory and proudly defensive of his work (like how he told simon pegg to "fuck off" when he makes fun of the scientist video!!)--thats just how he is. i love him for it, but i can imagine it can get tiresome to deal with if you actually know him.

personally, i would say terrible video, good song. its kind of a cheesy song, but still a good, worthy one. maybe not as a single, though....

He loves it really.....

I think it's the oppositte, a good song (maybe not that amazing but good) and terrible video, bsides sometimes the record company (EMI, I don't know if that's right) decides the singles or is involved in the decition of the singles to release.

the hardest part is just nice... and i think he didnt mean that he hate that song... maybe its not in his list of faves... but i can accept if he hates the video... the video is quite WEIRD.... :\

I kinda like the video ! just look at Guy's moves.. he's rocking it !!

:laugh3: I agree about the video!

Yeah, the video is really strange, but it's original I guess :P

I always liked the song (its sounds very different from the other songs on X&Y), but not one of my favorites though..

"terrible" ?? uhmmm...

in spanish it has a positive meaning. it'd be something like : AWESOME !!.

but i don't know what chris meant.

I'm sure he didn't meant awesome ;)

I think it is the self-deprecating style of chris martin that we all love.

Also, the song was orginally devised to be an artistic 'tip of the hat' to REM. I remember reading somewhere that chris saw the song as a blatant copy of Losing My Religion, and was not intended to be released, or at least a single, but the incinuation between the lines was that they were somewhat steered towards releasing it as a single.

i said the video is quite WEIRD not TERRIBLE... the video reflects coldplay's creativity and originality. :D

totaly agree...

I like the song, and after he mentioned it was like "a tip of the hat" to REM (thanks be my green eyes^^^) i did hear the resemblance to "losing my religion" but they still kept it coldplay. i like the song and the video, but i like the video particularly because Will Champion looks super sexy cool in it (or super cool sexy... yes, super cool sexy...)

the hardest part is coldplay's best video

i said the video is quite WEIRD not TERRIBLE... the video reflects coldplay's creativity and originality. :D

Oh that is so true. No two coldplay videos are alike (except maybe trouble and dont panic) which is a great thing. Also none of their videos are pretentious with girls and diamonds etc. or 'pimps and hos on the streets of compton'.

However, imo Talk video is the best;)

for coldplay to find the original video of the dancing out of all the video clips in the world, someone in the band, or their contacts would have been doing their homework, so you see coldplay could have just stood in front of the camera, but they came up with a brilliant idea i reckon. its cool how it had a "circus LA' type thing happening with that old lady dancing:D. So with the originally i reckon this video went a long way.
