Don't feed it people..:dozey:

^Normallly I'd agree, but I like a religious discussion...as long as it's open to all sides.

You're dad's a preacher? I'm so sorry for you, lol. My mom's been a church organist and choir director as long as I can remember. My whole life was about church when I was little.

I'm going to assume the double-post was an accident, since I do that all the time. You quoted John 3:16 in your original post. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever might believe in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." SImple as that. Believe. Not fall prey to man's corruption of the Church, but believe. That and The Sermon OPn The Mount are all it takes according to the New Testament to enter the Kingdom.

A New Commandment I give unto you: That you love one another as I have loved you.

And when JC was talking about bringing a sword, he was addressing the people who would harm his flock, not the flock itself.

Here's a queswtion for you (and I'm not being an agitant. It's a question my mom and I have talked about for years.). What happens to the 'good people' on this earth who haven't heard the 'gospel'? Do they go to Hell just because Christian missionaries haven't gotten to them yet? I can't believe a loving God would allow that.

Are Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus and other loving people going to Hell just because noone's shown them the slide show yet? As I say, I'm not trying to be an ass, it's a very genuine question that Christians should consider.

I personally believe that anyone who truly seeks the true God, will find Him. Secondly, if you could be good enough to get into heaven on your own, then Jesus Christ wouldn't have had to come and suffer and die for our sins. We only Get in because of what HE did for us on the cross. We must repent of our sins and turn to Him.

Here is what Jesus actually said. What do these verses mean to you?

Joh 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

1Jo 5:12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

It was fun and a good way to meet people. But my dad was really strict.

telling bout your religion is one thing. But one cannot tell me or others what religion is right. BECAUSE NOBODY KNOWS. i dont care what people say, but nobody knows. If you have faith, then thats good, but dont be tellingme that im gonna go to hell. People should be open to all religions, but the world has become so closeminded that there is only "one right religion" sorry to sound snoody, but it pisses me off when people tell me im gonna go to hell or that i need to pray to jesus, fuck that. Im agnostic, so i believe that one cannot prove or disprove the existance of god. However, i have nothing against those who do believe.. If you wanna tell people about church thats fine, but telling is one thing, and preaching and brainwashing is another.

Nothing wrong with saying your religion is right, but forcing it on other people is wrong. Simply coming out and stating your beliefs and saying its the truth is not wrong. But I dont agree with the way this kid is going about it, it does more damage then good.

Of course my religion is right...for me, and yours is right for you. It's such a personal thing. Not even any two Christians believe identically. ANd yeah, Nick, I completely agree with your last post.

you two make good points:) And I agree with the right foryou thing and the fact that this guy is going bout it in the wrong way.

...So...was Jesus right or wrong when He said that if you didn't place your trust in Him that the wrath of God will come upon you? How about when He said that He was the Only way to the Father? How about when He said "He who has the Son has life and He who has NOT the Son has NOT life"

Frodo baggins has lost his ring of invisibility!

This is where you are wrong. See you believe this to be the truth. But not everyone does, and its sad that you cannot open your mind and heart to other religions. You telling people this would be the same thing as a buddist telling you that his/ her religion is right and that you should follow buddah. Do you catch what im saying. Telling people about your faith is fine, but please dont be preaching bible verses and stuff like that. I dont think many people here appreciate it And yes we are allowed freedom of speech, so I cannot tellyou to stop preaching. I know you are just doing what your religion tells you to do, but not everyone is going to believe you. Not everyone sees jesus as a special person yet alone gods son. One cannot force one to believe by quoting phrases from a bible(which many people dont believe to be a holy book) I dont wanna offend you or your religion, I am a very open minded person, just for mysake and for the sake of others keep your religious preaching to yourself or talk about it in a more open way. Maybs make some like christian thread, cuz i am sure there are others on here who follow jesus christ. Just a thought.

Hey bro, why are you acting like this? You're doing more damage to our religion then good. Pushing people away..

eeps, I hope you dont mean me. Dont think you do!!

Yes you, you're doing more to hurt religion then help it, pushing people away...so why do you do this to your own religion? People like you are destroying my religion, pushing people away and creating enemies.

Absolutes are absolutely wrong. I rather think making such statements leads to the belief that there is no other way of thinking, and with blinders on, we never get the full picture. Since the 4 commonly accepted gospels were written long after Jesus' death, and I don't recall them being part of Q, I rather doubt he had even said these things - based on the evidence of corroboration.

Ghandi - "There is no God higher than Truth."

The Gospels weren't written THAT long after his death.

In the range of15 to 100 years after, depending on the Gospel.. Q is what corroborates with all the gospels; The gospel of Mark I think is the oldest, and therefore perhaps the most accurate.;)

Consult Elaine Pagel for more on it - she did the PBS special "From Jesus to Christ" - quite a fascinating look at empirical evidence for what really was going on at the time..

Also, there were 13 or so gospels written; a conference of high church officials narrowed it down to 4 - the most commonly accepted ones, as I recall..

I think it is more in the 100 range...not 300.

Any web links for this stuff?

Some earlier, & some much, much later! (in the later versions, Jesus and the Deciples get much bolder when Jesus gets arrested by the Romans..) A search-engine should give good results - I'll check.;)

i'll take a peak later on ;)

thanks for the link.

Coming on here and making a thread about their religion doesn't do any harm. As long as its directed at the members of that faith. If this froddo baggins guy is just trying to preach to fellow Christians in an attempt to strengthen their faith, then there's no problem with that at all. But telling us that your way is the only and right way disregards the faith of non-Christians who may believe strongly in another religion. Its quite disrespectful. I'm just saying that how you address this topic may offend some people on here, so expect to deal with the occasional protest (although I don't really mind this thread to be honest).

Just my 2 cents anyway.

more..

thanks for the link.

Hey Briggins - I took a look at the video just now - they do mention that 3 of the 4 canonical gospels were written 15 - 90 years after Jesus' death - you were right! ..But perhaps one or more of the later ones (there were about 13 gospels at one time) were written centuries later. I do recall the mention of a hundred years gap to 300 years - could be my mind playing tricks on me though, too!:laugh3:

Luke was the most exciting - it was written as a novel to interest literate Greek and Roman audiences, and was quite well embellished to be on par with a Greek novel of that day. Mark's was probably the most accurate owing to it being the first - as one might expect.

Q is what German Scholars refer to as Quella, or quotes - it's the lost original source of Jesus' quotes from which the gospels were written. Today about all we can make of it is from corroborating evidence in the gospels and elsewhere - and it paints a different portrait of Jesus than what comes through in the gospels - Jesus as revolutionary during an apocalyptic revolt, and as a complex character (parables of the mustard seed; lilies, etc.). Oh well - times were rough back then!;)

Yeah, its neat with the gospels because they were written by completely different types of people. Neat to get a different perspective, but really they do all line up.

Now those other "gospels" I dont' think they are that accurate or intended to be part of the Bible. I think everything that was meant to be in the Bible is in fact included.
