HOW TO GET TO HEAVEN WHEN YOU DIE

Featured Replies

What makes you a Christian or not is wheather or not you have accepted Jesus Christ into your heart as your Lord and Savior.

Well, I did that once or twice.

But my mom pretty much killed it.

Now I think I want to be Jewish.

But I think she's killed that as well.

I was never a good Christian.

You need to actually have a realtionship with Jesus. I find it hard to believe that someone could know God and then turn away from Him.

Carpenter's Son to the Present.

I digg Jesus's philosophy, but the whole "it's my way or none other" business is pretty closed-minded. I think rather we were given brains and the organization skills to investigate further and seek greater truths; to become more aware of the universe in which we live, and let each new discovery become an inspiration to uncover more of the gems of higher truths. Heaven and Earth are not two separate places, but one in my mind.

His devotion to justice, compassion for those in need, and inquiry into the truer nature of ourselves and of the world around us - to free ourselves from our mind's own bondage sometimes - makes a great deal of sense. And we should all be thankful for the enlightened minds that brought us this far, and for all who toiled to make our modern world possible, and light the way towards a brighter future.

My own belief is to make our world like heaven on earth, and balance the common good with our personal needs and desires. Enlightenment can take many forms, and we all are facets of a beautiful gem - collectively shining more brilliantly than any one, but each an essential part of the whole.

...but Jesus proved who He was by His miracles, fulfillment of hundreds of prophecies written hundreds of years before His birth and His resurrection.

Either Jesus was telling the truth or He was/is a liar. I believe Him when He is the only way...Do you?

I agree with XFrodoBagginsX. And Jesus simply doesn't want you to get drunk so that you remain in control of your own actions.

where is the "I am going to hell" option???

I CANNOT VOTE IN THIS POLL I DEMAND MORE OPTIONS!!

It's good to accept the fact that you're going to hell before you die so you'll be prepared.

Trust me.

*scared*

I've been to hell and back several times!:bandana::bandana::laugh3: It's really not that bad a place - a lot of nice people have been condemned to hell by the church, and they're nice to chat with..

Really though - the story of Jesus turning water to wine at a wedding. I mean, that's another one of those 1 in a zillion zillion probability things. God gave us a universe that makes sense, and this is, in all likelihood, an exaggeration. So, perhaps Jesus switched the water with some wine he brought along. Yes, probably so everyone could get a little tipsy - maybe even a little drunk! Loosens up a stiff crowd a bit; no harm in that!

And did Jesus say he was the only way, or did one of the authors add that?? I'm betting it was the latter. But even so, that's ridiculous as well. That assumes all the other cultures of the world, and all the other beliefs are 100% wrong, and they're all condemned to hades for it. Which, I think is a big mistake, and with extremism you get extremism in return. I'll opt for a common-sense approach to life, thank you kindly, Xxfrodo.:smug2::pleased:

I just don't get why some people question every single thing that he said, saying that it was just fabricated by other authors.....why doesn't every single text from the past come under intense scrutiny?

I think the same, but there is an obvious answer. It's because people think of the bible as a damning book, so they want to say it's all false. That's not how it was intended though

I guess a big problem I have as well is people who go out Bible bashing even though they haven't read it. I mean if you have a closed mind and see it as a book full of rules then yes, you're not going to get much out of it.

But I think if you look closer its more a message of love and hope than a list of does and don'ts .

Christ's message is to love one another. We are never expected to be perfect. That is where some people make the mistake

Exactly. Its impossible for people to be perfect. I think people get bad impressions when they get people who come in condemning everybody, judging everybody, acting like they are perfect and know it all, but miss out on the whole love one another part.

The church is made up of humans and is bound to make mistakes. Things such as the slave trade were still accepted by the church for hundreds of years which is just one example of how Christians can completely miss the point.

well... if a master loved his/her slaves, sure. if not then they could call themselves a christian, but they wouldn't really be one. and slave trade is actually mentioned as an evil practice in 1 timothy 1:10

true.

I guess just one thing personally I have been learning over the past year or so is not to be judgemental of other people. I grew up going to a Christian school and church and somehow built up this view of myself as being right and above other people. I've realized I was being just like a Pharisee and completely missing the point.

If the book says love one another, then why are we told by the church to hate gays? This is one of the many contradictions that confuse readers all around the world. Really though, what makes the bible different from any other book? Some say it's "text to live by", but if it's just text, then why can't I write a short novel and call it a religion? That's what L. Ron Hubbard did. I say it's much easier to abolish religion in general. It would defuse so many issues we have in the world today.

If the book says love one another, then why are we told by the church to hate gays? Contradictions like that define the hatred I have towards almost any organized religion.

just because a church says to hate gays does not mean that is what the doctrine teaches. it's just like radical islam, if I understand correctly. It does not teach to be a terrorist, yet many people think it does, because that is how people interpret it (incorrectly)
