Spies

Featured Replies

Okay, who here thinks they know what the real meaning of the song "Spies" is?

BTW: Didn't China or somebody ban Coldplay music because they thought that song was a shot at communism or something?

idk

spies could be about spies

i know, weird right?

Brilliant song though even though I have absolutely have no idea at what its aimed at?

Hopefully Coldplay will give us some answears!!

where communism?? i can't see it

I think is about an organization who manipulates us, but then at the end of the song you open your eyes and then you realize everything. It could be a lot of things, you know, religion, government, the media....

I don't think the song has any real intended reference to real-life occurences. I always thought of it as more of a made up story that follows the theme of songs like don't panic... In an interview Chris said that almost all of their songs start off complaining about something but by the end are of the attitude "what am I complaining about?" You could say the spies are a metaphor for your troubles and he came up with a cool little dystopian movie backdrop, but it doesn't get detailed enough to apply it to any historic event or anything. Hilarious how paranoid the chinese government can be about the word "spies".

Yeah, Spies is a great song indeed.

I guess it tells about freedom, how on the beggining you feel so insecure and afraid, and on the end, trying to escape to somewhere, but eventually see that you are the one in control of your life.

But on the end, as ricardo said, it can refer to just about anything, the media, corporations etc

. Hilarious how paranoid the chinese government can be about the word "spies".

its not hilariou. more of a shame:dozey:
