The Mad Hatter
This year, we have assembled a spring soccer team to play in rec league in Maryland to train 8th graders that will be playing on the high school team next school year. The seniors that played on last season's team decided to come and play with us. The problem is that one of the girls is a complete bitch who verbally and, occasionally, physically attacks players on the other team and argues with referees all the time. She also verbally abuses (yes, abuses) players on our own team and is not encouraging to the younger girls. She only succeeds in making them want to quit because she is a moronic cow. She has fucked up everything I've done with the newbies on the team. I worked extremely hard to make them feel comfortable on the field, comfortable with the team, but then this "captain" comes back and yells until they don't even want to touch the ball. Today, I made one mistake while playing defense. A ball came in the air towards me, and when I was trying to settle it, it sort of bounces off my foot towards the middle of the field. So she takes it upon herself to scream at me about how I shouldn't kick it towards the middle of the goal. Oh, you know, Butch, I haven't been playing this sport since I was 5. I thought you were supposed to kick it at the goal you were defending. Bitch. I ended up telling her (aloud) to fuck off, which was not a good thing to do, but I don't think she heard me. Thank god. I'm not a mean person like that. Also, at a different point in the game when I was playing defense, I ended up waaaaaay past midfield with the ball after a throw-in down the sideline. I had a man on me, so I had to dribble a little bit back towards midfield to shake her because I couldn't make a pass from my position. I did a last second drag back to lose her (keep in mind I'm still pretty much on the sideline), and from my spot, it seems to be a pretty good idea to center the ball. I send in a good ball to the middle in front of the other team's goal, but nobody is able to get it, as usual. When the other team gets the ball because our strikers and midfield are young and lacking a lot of experience, the girl yells at me for passing it to the middle in FRONT OF THE OTHER TEAM'S GOAL. "DON'T KICK IT TO THE MIDDLE!!! I'M A STUPID STUPIDERSON!11!!" I don't know if you can visualize that, but whatever. She has it in her head that: 1. She can show up to one game, no practicing, and become our captain. 2. You should never dribble the ball or make a constructive pass, you should always kick it upfield. Wtf? 3. NEVER kick it to the middle, no matter where you are. 4. She doesn't have to warm up with the rest of the team. Okay. Maybe that was a whole lot of venting. I'm so pissed and there's nowhere else to post this and Myspace is slow right now. Anyway, it's not like there's much going on in the Lounge. :P
Fixed
I know how you feel. Our manager 'resigned' a few years so our goalkeeper, who was the same age as us, about 16, somehow ended up being our manager. I can't remember how that came about, and who chose him. Anyway, he was a knob. And he was the same age as us, which really pissed me off. You have to earn respect but he just expected it all of a sudden, god he was annoying. Anyway, I retired at the ripe old age of 18. I lost an interest in it and all of us went out separate ways for university. But it's a sad fact that in life you will come across idiots - just hope I haven't come across as one!
cavenow
"DON'T KICK IT TO THE MIDDLE!!! I'M A STUPID STUPIDERSON!11!!" hahahahahahha Is there anyone that can tell her formally to fuck off? She seems like a complete twat. But have you thought about talking to her? Tell her to TAKE THE CALM AND BRING IT DOWN?

Mimixxx
Ew, what's her problem? You're a far nicer person than I am, I would've told her to fuck off and felt good about it. :P Does everyone in your team feel like this? If so could you not all get together and do something about it? Is there anyone above her you could talk to? Or maybe you could scare her and threaten to quit and go somewhere else. Jayzo
Yea, I would have told her where to shove it haha. I used to play in a few soccer teams in my time, and in every single one of them things like this would always happen, those people always got on my nerves...grr...eventually soccer didn't become fun anymore, it was horrible, so I quit the game. Hope things go better in the future.
Ms Magpie
"accidentally" break her leg. and make another teammate punch her in the eye. She's a prick. The whole team should make her stop acting like she's the queen of the universe.
Space Cadet
Ooh, that's rough... I played floor hockey with a girl like that in highschool. She picked on me and a lot of other girls all the time about everything to begin with, but give her a hockey stick and it wouldn't just be words any more, she would go straight for the shins- and she liked aluminum sticks too. Even if you were on her team. I would come home with my legs covered in bruises, but no one would do anything about it. The teacher thought it was fair play. So not only is she abusive, she doesn't know what she's doing or how to play. :dozey: Good grief. Well I'd just completely ignore the yelling, but from the sound of the rest of it, you need to get some of the other people you're working with together and have a good talk with her about strategy, the rules of the game, teaching methods. Just make sure it's off the field- and no attacks or name calling those just make it worse. Who knows, maybe she'll see sense. There's always hope. Alas, no such luck with the hockey demon though, I had to put up with her until she was kicked out of school after a teacher caught her smoking. ApproximatelyInfinite
these are exactly the sorts of reasons that i absolutely hated volleyball. unfortunately it was mandatory in my school (well, A sport was mandatory, but volleyball is the only one i can remotely play). if it wasn't required, i would have quit from day 1, which is when it became un-fun. the captains were always screaming at us like it was the day before the freaking olympics when really it was just preseason...so i know exactly how you feel. i would say don't take any crap from anyone, not the captains or older girls on the team, or even the coach (because i don't think lots of them know what they're talking about half the time) and just do what you think is best in that moment, because you're the only one that could possibly know what to do and how to do it right then. people are jerks, especially when it comes to sports, which are supposed to be for FUN anyway, so try not to let one freak spoil your good time. for me it did, but i suppose i didn't want to be there whatsoever to begin with.
