The Zutons' Coldplay competition

The Zutons think Coldplay will stop their new album reaching number one.

The band, from Liverpool, England, release their third album, 'You Can Do Anything', just days before Chris Martin's band release Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends in June.

The Zutons' frontman Dave McCabe says the release is likely to stop his band topping the charts - but insists he doesn't mind.

He said: "It means our album can't be number one or number two - there'll be something else out - but it doesn't really bother me. It's not like we hate them or we're similar. People should know to buy us anyway!"

Coldplay have announced they will play free concerts to support their album's release, but Dave says they won't be doing anything similar.

He added: "We're not doing anything free, we're not Coldplay, we are not big enough to do a Radiohead or a Coldplay. We'd only do a free gig for a charity we supported."

phfffft. coldplay's presence on the charts alone will smosh them, let alone their material. coldplay are take'n over. :smug:

Ha "he thinks it's likely" that Coldplay will topple them?

Delusional :stunned: Is no chance Coldplay won't topple you.

And what's with the arrogance Zutons? Everyone thinks that the only semi good song you've had was written by Amy Winehouse!

Zutons are good but looking at the pre-order's, its going to sell more than X&Y in its first week and that was around 430k last time! No way Zutons are gonna sell anywhere near that.

I was thinking that straight away

and even then the mark ronson version is better! :laugh3:

Viva La Thingie will outsell the rest of the top 75 put together on it's first week.

They wont even be in the top 10. All those places will be filled up with VLVODAAHF.:P

Seriously tho, Zutons are a good band, but absolutely no competition whatsoever for superpower bands like Coldplay. It's no contest. Try again next year boys...

Hopefully if Tesco do a "buy Viva la and get £5 of anther chart album/dvd" like they did for X&Y then the zutons might benefit.

mark ronson is a c**t can't stand him or his trumpets! He should never have butchered 'Just', 'God Put A Smile... or 'Valerie' Dave McCabe is an arogant sod aswell :laugh3: sorry for my little rant :laugh3: Why even mention Coldplay, looks like he's using the new Coldplay album to promote his new boring samey, samey Zutons cd. I liked the first two Zutons albums but that new single is poor  Sorry to any Zutons fans or Ronson fans :laugh3: you're gonna wanna kill me now :laugh3:

Everyone now thinks that Kaiser Chiefs 'Oh My God' is a Lily Allen song.

Taking brilliant indie tracks and turning them into sleazy top 10 hits goes against everything I stand for.

Is this guy freaking serious?

Really, why even mention them in the same sentence as Coldplay (or any band of their stature) unless that sentence is... "Man I can't believe that guy from the Zutons thinks his band is any competitions for _____ (insert pretty much any band name that pops into your head)"

The Zutons are the same old same old and bad at it. Nothing new, and no good melodies. Their music is too formulaic and doesn't show anything of interest to me, it's not thought provoking and their musicianship is mediocre at best.

As for Mark Ronson, can't stand him. If he does a cover of one of the new coldplay

songs I'll bet you anything it'll have trumpets in it, and suck. That radiohead cover was a POS! And the video?! Jesus christ!

Is it me or does ronson just play guitar (which you can barely hear on the record) and then takes all the credit! He's so arogant aswell! Can't stand him! :laugh3: this is turning into a ronson rant thread now :laugh3:
