New sound is great but.. anyone miss the old (Parachutes, etc)

Yes, i do miss old Coldplay and still believe that some day there're gonna go back to basics :D but they have to try everything and on the way of experimenting pick up all the good stuff. Personally i like Viva la vida more than X&Y.

if they would have done another album like the last 3 then some people would be saying its too much of the same and they need to take a new direction, they cant win either way :D

how can you clump the last three together? the first was excellent, the second was quite good, third was meh.

I think the new album is great, they obviously put a lot of effort into each song but does anyone think some parts are a bit contrived/over done? And I wish they did not clump 2 songs into one, that is kind of annoying. They could have been two great songs, not one song going into another - they don't even really have an amazing transition. Is it just me who sort of misses the old simple Parchutes days? I mean I think that is what Coldplay are best at. Now they sound a bit like other bands, for example Chinese Sleep Chant sounds My Bloody Valentine like, other songs sound U2, then some Radiohead.. experimenting and all that is good but what good is it if it only sounds like other bands?

Minor criticism, but still excellent album..

Parachutes > Viva la vida > AROBTTH > X&Y

no no no no no no NO!!!

It's SO annoying listening to people say "I miss parachutes"

well go and listen to parachutes then!

Why can't people accept that parachutes, AROBTTH X&Y and VLV are all different albums?

you can't expect them to just recreate the same album everytime.

bands have to change their style and try new things or they just become boring.

you can't compare VLV to ANY of their last albums because they're all vastly different from each other.

and VLV is a fucking brilliant album!

I hate it when I have to listen to people saying that they wanted a more parachutes-esqe album,

you're never gonna get it.

just listen to parachutes.

rant over. :P

Not heard the new album yet, I am waiting for its official release, but ye, I guess I do miss the old days, but then everyone must evolve.

no no no no no no NO!!!

EXACTLY! It's like, we still have parachutes to look back on people. It's ridiculous to want the same every time. I mean, then what's to look forward too if we already know pretty much how it's going to sound? There's no big AWW this is amazing! It's going to sound the same everytime. It's like throwing a party three days in a row then throwing a fourth party. it gets a little old after a while.

Ppl don't miss parachutes itself, dumbasses. They miss the CP sound of this period and the quality of the songwriting. I have no problem with the new sound and I wouldn't have had any problem with X&Y either if the songs in those albums weren't second-rate. As for the originality of the new sound, open your eyes, it's only new for CP as i have already said 10 times.

I wish CP would turn into a rap crew. You'd all come here moaning, complaining, missing the old days and I would tell you "what up mofos, you be missing the old CP, you still got the old albums bra bra"

but you're really the "dumbass" if you're expecting them to just keep to the parachutes sound.

you shouldn't be defining coldplay by the parachutes era.

I'm glad they're not keeping the same sound, because I, and alot of people would get bored very easily, there has to be something different everytime to keep people interested.

I personally didn't expect or want them to keep the same sound, I was just defending ppl who miss this era.

Any need to call a poster a dumbass in the process?

haha poor posters, me was meanie, oh nasty meanie, a  for anyone i offended.

I don't think we'll hear many albums as good as Parachutes very often.

If I had any doubts about you being a 10 year old its been confirmed.

If I had any doubts about you being a 10 year old its been confirmed.

LMAO!

Viva la vida is great, number 1 on my list, but I miss the old coldplay, when they were a bunch of kids making happy music (Yellow) and optimistic songs (everything's not lost).

I miss that =[, they had their own style of music in that album. Now it looks like their trying to find their own sound when they already had it.

Everyone (Snow patrol, keane etc etc) and their mom end up sounding like coldplay wannabes....so I wouldn't say that the "style" that you're talking about belonged to coldplay exclusively...this album separates the boys from the men (men being coldplay off course).

haha yeah and if i had any doubts you were a complete ignorant, it's been confirmed too. Keep thinking or rather believing (it's just blind faith) that the new sound is original.

really, is there any need to be so abusive?

this is a forum, express your opinions freely, but don't go insulting users,

that's my only problem so far.

It's healthy to debate, but to insult, that's just rude.

as for your comments,

there's nothing in music that's completely original these days

get used to it. it doesn't make the new album any less great.

Let me quote 2 reviews by some internet critic that i generally dislike but with whom i agree about CP. The second part is a review of X&Y but it applies to VLV in my opinion.

The album Parachutes |...| was mainly a display of dynamic and emotional ranges, as if to prove that, after so many failures (Blur, Oasis) the genre has acquired maturity and solidity. Despite the fact that their hit single, Yellow, relies on yet another catchy, upbeat refrain, songs like the majestic, stately, anthemic Everything's Not Lost and the tracks already published on EP present a fresh and sober take on melodic rock. Sparks and Trouble are derivative of the Smiths, but the whole album is just one gigantic summary of British pop. Martin is a better vocalist than this derivative album allows him to be, as proven by his falsetto acrobatics in Shiver.

X & Y is neither the long overdue artistic statement nor a continuation of the band's facile melodic exploitation. Neither of its predecessors was particularly clever or original, but at least one could feel the passion vibrating inside the singer's whining voice and the existential paralysis behind the (mediocre) instrumental backing. X & Y "is" that paralysis without that passion. Like so many mainstream pop acts before them, from the Beatles to Oasis, Coldplay inject massive doses of indifference into the format of the elegiac ballad. Ultimately, too many songs are simply second-rate.

oh for fucks sake.

will you get over parachutes?

you sound like you're about to touch yourself over it.

Parachutes is in the past.

Coldplay are not going to fall back on old tricks.

and if they did and made another "parachutes-esqe" album

would you say it was original?

NO

because it would be a reincarnation of parachutes

and YOU'D probably complain because it wasn't as good.

Yeah sorry anyway, that was a bad post, you misinterpreted it but I don't blame you. I didn't mean to cry over the loss of the parachutes sound, i just wanted to point out, once again, that CP has lost something from an emotional standpoint.

you sound like you're about to touch yourself over it.

LMAO!! that's hilarious.:laugh3:

well not really.

It's like you're expecting them to create newer versions of the scientist, or, fix you, or whatever.

why can't you just be happy about what they HAVE released and fall back on the old classics on the older albums?

I'm not saying yu're opinion is wrong in so many words,

I'm saying I don't understand your critisisms of the new style compared to the old style.

haha yeah but i'd rather do that than touch myself to the sound of VLV, which is probably what you are all doing right now.

well not really.

For the tenth time, let me repeat this, I don't care about the new sound, the new style or whatever (nothing's that new anyway), I just think the songs are second rate, they lack something. I'm not talking about the form, I'm talking about the substance.
