Nope. Her style gradually drifted over albums, nothing totally drastic.

dont miss parachutes, think its there worst album, a bit too bland, love the new album, think its terrific!

AROBTTH and PARACHUTES will be their best ever albums!!!

great album the only thing is yes i do miss the old days when the albums had slow songs like THE SCIENTIST.SWALLOWED IN THE SEA..ETC.............this album only has reign of love but that not the same........but ya still love it

I get your point. I chose Madonna on purpose because she did change her style a couple of times, but she didn't create anything totally new, she didn't redefine the meaning of music or even push the boundaries of pop music.

she takes parts from previous styles, mixes them up (and maybe adds in a pinch of something new), and makes them new again. and with the attention she's gotten, that's definitely redefining music, especially with pop. however i don't really see her as an extraordinaire musician of anything...it's her personality, her messages and her statements that are defining. :)

 

 

anyway, that's within her genre. Coldplay's still with rock, and bottom line is that they are not experimental in that particular genre.

 

 

 

oh well. all in all, i see it depends on the person listening and how they perceive the familiar and/or new.

Let's be more scientific haha. Experiment 1c "an operation or procedure carried out under controlled conditions in order to discover an unknown effect or law, to test or establish a hypothesis, or to illustrate a known law" (Merriam-Webster)

 

CP or Madonna clearly didn't discover or try to discover anything in the field of music. No "unknown effect or law". They didn't break any convention, didn't go beyond any established milestone. One could argue that VLV tests the following hypothesis though : if we depart from our usual sound, some fans will be really pissed. :laugh3:

They experimented with their PAST style and CHANGED IT from said previous style (no more ballad/obvious lead single/secondary single system :dance:) which is the only way it's experimental. It's not experimental in the whole GENRE of rock :dozey:

all i am saying is if i wanted experimental i would listen to experimental, not coldplay going quasi experimental. really impressed with wills drumming on this one though, in the past he bored me but here it is good!!

right :D but in reality they didn't ACTUALLY depart from their sound completely. so i don't see why some are making it sound like it's been a 'radical' change. :thinking:

I don't miss stadium anthems but yeah there's no impressive chorus, it feels that the songs never really take off, it's pleasant but it doesn't take you higher

 

I agree I think the new songs are great and a couple are amazing like 42 and Lovers In Japan and of course Viva La Vida (one of the best Coldplay songs ever!!!) but some songs don't seem to go anywhere they just stay on one level. I really like the album don't get me wrong but i wouldn't say it's my favourite (and I've listened to it non-stop since I downloaded it) Parachutes is still their best album, I really think it's their 'classic' :D AROBTTH and X&Y are both amazing in their own ways, but Parachutes sticks out for me still all these years later :D

the melodies are there, they are just more complex and harder to notice this time around. and i do not miss parachutes/arobtth. if i want to listen to that coldplay i will play those albums. its good for a band to find new sounds.

 

I agree...you don't have to totally forsake the other albums in order to love Viva La Vida.

They are all great I love them all. I love the progression from one album to the next. While X&Y was a slight step back VLV is a rocket ship out of orbit! I will never forget how Parachutes and AROBTTH made me feel on the first listen. Like I had found the album of albums... Now thats amplified a bit. THIS is going to be sooooooo over played be me my friends may take my life. So, it was nice chatting w/you all if they do. :kiss:

Hm... I really like this album but X&Y still remains me fav which is slightly disappointing really but I guess you cant beat a really good album like that.

 

This album could be my 2nd favourite, I think it's tied with AROBTTH at the moment. I may have to listen to AROBTTH again to decide.

I think the new album is great, they obviously put a lot of effort into each song but does anyone think some parts are a bit contrived/over done? And I wish they did not clump 2 songs into one, that is kind of annoying. They could have been two great songs, not one song going into another - they don't even really have an amazing transition. Is it just me who sort of misses the old simple Parchutes days? I mean I think that is what Coldplay are best at. Now they sound a bit like other bands, for example Chinese Sleep Chant sounds My Bloody Valentine like, other songs sound U2, then some Radiohead.. experimenting and all that is good but what good is it if it only sounds like other bands?

Yeh it is a superb album, I can hear the african and hispanic influences in some of the songs. I agree with you about the 2 songs in one. Are you referring to the song 'Yes'? I think it is a good song up until the point it sounds as if a new song has started playing.

Viva la vida is great, number 1 on my list, but I miss the old coldplay, when they were a bunch of kids making happy music (Yellow) and optimistic songs (everything's not lost).

I miss that =[, they had their own style of music in that album. Now it looks like their trying to find their own sound when they already had it.

VLV its their best album. you dont have to miss parachutes its still there listen it.

Change opinion. Parachutes is deffs there in some songs like Yes, uh... I forget the rest, I've only heard them a few times :laugh3: but it is there...

 

I think it's not there in it's pure form, like actual Parachutes Parachutes... if that makes sense :confused: I often double up words to mean "utter" or "pure" of something, sorry... I do miss the Ode stuff though. Things like Only Superstition, Such A Rush, they were great songs, even Ode itself even though it had kinda nonsense lyrics. Although they eventually evolved into a band that used Chris' piano skills heavily, Ode days didn't really, which made it sorta fresh.

This album is brill, I think def their freshest and also their most Original definitely. I could imagine so many people loving this album!!!!!!!

I love all their albums. They are all different. If you want the old Coldplay you just.. grab your Parachutes or AROBTTH cd, put it in and play it :D

 

I'm sure in their concert anyway they'll play one of their old songs that everyone loves.

 

I was a bit nervous before I heard this new album after hearing Viva la Vida.. only cos I had no idea what he was going on about in the lyrics. But now that I heard it all I'm very pleased.. phew!

Honestly Parachutes is starting to sound bland compared with this. I know a lot of people have an emotional attachment to Parachutes, but for me Viva la Vida or DAAHF is just so perfectly atmospheric and sweet.

 

And it really makes me wonder what Eno could do with a song like Yellow, lol.

I like the album, but I don't see instant classics like clocks, or the scientists. The album is too dense with instruments, no simple melodies that you can hum over... I know they are more that proven in the world of music and that they would experiment, but honestly its not the direction I was hoping for. Maybe the went the right direction for some people, but for us AROBTTH lovers out there its hard to not be critical of the new album. Oh well Viva la Coldplay! I love 42!
