Utterly Dissapointing ?

Okay, it's now official. I wasn't sure at first but I've given the album a few good listens and, wow. This album really is so brilliant and beautiful. After giving it a good soak, as should go for all art, I'm glad to say that the whole cd is just beautifully crafted, period.

All of the songs are different from one another, but still have that something that nicely holds it all together.

I agree with pianoguy about it almost taking the number one spot of my top favourite album. The only thing is that sometimes I really wish Life In Technicolor had lyrics. It's so beautiful.

I definitely think that AROBTTH was better, and I'm not really sure where it places between the other 3. But, i can tell you that i LOVE this album and I'm definitely not disappointed at all!

Death and all his friends is so great!!!

And to the people like robins, you're an idiot. sure that's fine that you don't like it, I'm not saying you do, but saying that it sucks is so stupid. You have to realize that other people, BELIEVE IT OR NOT, have different tastes, views, etc...Get over it, Viva La Vida is at the very least, decent.

First post, tho I've been lurking here for a while...

I just had to speak up and say this is by far the best album CP has put out. This album is bigger than you, me, and almost bigger than the band themselves. It transcends the sound of their previous albums, and puts them into a league of comparisons with Peter Gabriel, U2, and other legendary musicians.

This is no longer rock, imo, it is fantastic music. I give part credit to Brian Eno on elevating their sound to heavenly heights. Nice job, boys.

this album hands down RELATIVELY FUCKING SUCKS....do i even hear buckland on this album? i cant stand reading 14 year old girls swoon over these songs...i'm a guy who loves good rock and i always take shit for telling other guys i like coldplay, but after this bullshit album i've had enough, buckland needs to man up and start rippin on his guitar...

yes i forgot to mention that in addition to the 14 year olds there are also the older goons who would think this is a "brilliant"album...it disappoints me to know that there are many coldplay fans out there that praise anything and everything they do....if they came out with an album that had only 1 song on it where chris martin is recorded taking a dump, all you people would say how brilliant and different it is...if they wanted to experiment they should have done it in the studio and left it alone...NOT try to sell it to the public and go around playing it at concerts....and i do love some 80s rock, U2 preferably...

How about going back to basics......just being happy with who you are, not overthinking everything and trying too hard. I like a few songs on VLV but ya know what? I listening right now to Live 2003, not the new CD.

There are some who will never say anything bad about the band or their music....somehow, by doing so, you are not as dedicated of a fan or something by some's standards.

Both of you said exactly I was thinking! I was afraid Marisa and I were the only intelligent ones around here!

Well, it took about 4 listens to come to really appreciate this album. I actually searched a bunch of reviews of the album before listening to it. It seems the critics all like to bag the boys for creating music that a listener can sing to the rafters at the top of his or her lungs. But this is exactly what I love about this band. Huge melodies that just sound and feel great. This album is a bit more subdued on that front but they're still there (Chorus on Lost, most of Lovers, Chorus on VH). My only beef is that there is almost no real ripping guitar. It's melodic but not very present, That and Will took a serious back seat to a drum machine and tablas. Overall, pretty good though.

Is that supposed to mean that all the fans that are digging Viva La Vida are lying and trying to impress everyone by looking dedicated?

Look, everyone's entitled to an opinion, but I don't think this album is all that far different from the others. Probably if anything you would have thought Viva La Vida to be the logical progression from A Rush of Blood To The Head, but instead we got the slightly overpowering melodrama of X&Y. Some of the tracks on this new album definitely retain elements of previous songs; Viva La Vida itself is classic stadium Coldplay with a bit of cello and violin; there are so many parallels evident between Death and All His Friends and Amsterdam; and Violet Hill also sounds very similar to a lot of their older stuff. If you listen closely I don't know if they've really "reinvented themselves" that much; I mean, it's certainly a distinctive change in sound, but I haven't ever listened to the new album and thought, "geez, I miss the 'old' Coldplay", or "this doesn't sound like Coldplay at all". To me it just seems like they're moving forward as part of a natural musical progression. Bands develop, bands change, bands move with the times. Listen to Sgt Pepper and then listen to the White Album...believe me, you will notice a difference.

Meh, I've rambled and probably haven't made sense. The point is, Viva La Vida is exactly what I wanted Coldplay to make and they did. A gazillion times better than X&Y and even just slightly better than A Rush of Blood in my opinion.

;) peace
