Breakfast_of_CHAMPION
I LOVE COLDPLAY! I really really do, and with that said, I have to have a small rant. If I ever see them in those fucking jackets again, I am going to throw up and then cry. At first, I was like wow, those are different, and they fit with the video well, but now they wear those fucking things everywhere. I know they have to stink by now, because none of them are too keen on changing clothes that often. I was watching an interview with Liam Gallagher, the crazy sod that he is, said something that hit me and it was that they (oasis) don't go for all the glitz and glamour crap, that they are just 5 lads on stage playing their music and they don't need a big stageshow or funny costumes to prove that they are the best band in the world. All they need it their music to prove that. WOW! It is the truth, if Coldplay had that same attitude, I believe that they would be the best band in the world, I don't go to see Coldplay shows to see them dressed alike in homeless clown jackets and confetti spewing out of huge airguns. I go to see them perform their music. That's all I wanna see is four lads on stage playing their music and being the best band in the whole fucking universe. Ok, sorry for any mispellings, but I had to get that all out and quickly. So if any of you sons of bitches have anything to say...now's the time to say it!! (Kill Bill reference for those that don't get my humor)
UrbanBuckeye33
Ha dude, I would just get used to it... doubt they are going anywhere. Personally I like Chris' jacket very much.
blackchickintheback
I'm sure they're not wearing the EXACT same jacket 24/7. They're worth how much- $25 million each?! I'm sure they each have a wardrobe full of identical jackets. :laugh3: And hey, it's better than the black.

Space Cadet
Yeah. Sick of them wearing uniforms. And black isn't Chris's best colour either...

I would agree with you but I saw coldplay many times live back in the day and i probably saw them wear 2 different shirts every show, oh and have you seen their shoes? that will tell you right there that they aren't that big on spending the money on clothes lol
blackchickintheback
Hmm, you have a point. ;) It's a good thing that they seem to not care about appearances [like the shoes] and focus more on the music. But then they turn around and get these costumes??? Ah ha! Now I see why you're going nuts.

It should be all about the music, they are too talented to try to put on some sort of "LOOK" it's rediculous.

blackchickintheback
Well, this look will only last for this tour, that's the bright side. And it didn't affect their music, which is good also. Before you know it LP5 will come along with new clothes and such. I don't know how comforting that thought is, but that's all I got for now.
ApproximatelyInfinite
in all seriousness, i agree. the student-y street clothes suited them better and put all the attention on the music. it worked beautifully then, and it should still work beautifully now. i got a bit iffy when they did the all-black thing, but the matching uniforms really takes the cake for the "what the hell? coldplay?!" reaction in my book. at the same time, someone in this thread (i can't remember who right now), said that it's very hard to imagine the guys singing a song like "viva la vida" in the old jeans and hoodies and "BEST DAMN SAWMILLERS IN THE COUNTRY" t-shirts. it almost doesn't fit. in my opinion, the clothes fit the music. and while i LOVE the music, i do wonder what formerly-basic-and-simple bands making music that almost requires costumes means. whiiiiiich relates back to a particularly stimulating conversation i had last night...anyway. that all said, i a) think the jackets are very cool-looking but b) i miss the simplicity of the parachutes/AROBTTH era. (BTW, if you look behind jonny in the recent canadian "hour" interview when he's telling his "best story ever," you can see an entire rack of military-esque jackets. hoepfully that means they have a lot of duplicates and don't smell too too bad...we all know how chris wore the same pants for like 4 years!) Pommes
As a big Grateful Dead, Dave Matthews and Phish fan, I totally agree. People should go to You Tube and look at some of the outfits Jerry Garcia used to wear at his concerts, literally shorts and t-shirts most people wouldn't go out of the house wearing. They talk about not wanting to be "commercial" but I feel a lot of this costume stuff is very commericial and unnecessary. I agree with what you said about how they fit in the video, etc. but now it's a bit silly. Yeah, they are cool once or twice but if this is the new costume for the next year, it's overproduced. the_gloaming09
I agree in that they should not dress up. I mean i could understand with the music video but why not just wear regular clothes? I mean when people go to a concert, they go to see the band not what they look like or wear... the music is all that matters. I do like coldplay and I think the album is very strong, but I feel that they are almost trying to hard. I see they want to get the whole idea of the 1700's and revolution and all that, but I think if they want to express that then show it with other visuals (like screens), because then to an average person seeing them on tv, they will probably see the band as hobo's. ...basically just play the music... when you get down to it that's all that really matters
KissesBirds
I know they have to stink by now, because none of them are too keen on changing clothes that often. Mmmmmmm, stinky Coldplay clothes.........:P I'd buy it on ebay! Thanks for pointing that out. As I couldn't take my eyes off Jonny, I completely missed that detail. :D .

Bonus_mosher
they have different variations. in one interview I saw chris' and it had a Green bit on the right arm and no coloured bands and in another jonny was wearing one like chris' but slightly different. they don't wear the same jacket 24/
mc_squared
I completely agree. Coldplay should never wear costumes/uniforms for live appearances. Videos are a different matter as they are "fantasy"-based and designed as selling-tools. I don't mind Chris's personal "Make Trade Fair" accessories as he's using these to make a statement, but generally I can't stand gimmicks of any kind as they detract from the all-important music. One of the big plus-points of Coldplay on stage is how down-to-earth and "ordinary" they come across. It would be a very sad day indeed if this changed for any reason.:(
