So, would you want Chris Martin to be a guest on The O'Reilly Factor?

Featured Replies

I couldn't resist bringing up what Bill O'Reilly called Chris Martin on his "Patriot and Pinhead" segment on his show "The O'Reilly Factor" on Fox News. Part of me said "Don't even bother posting anything about this." I do not feel hatred really towards anyone, at least not permanently. I may hold feelings of great dislike, and in the heat of things, feel hatred, and Bill O'Reilly is no exception, but he is very close to hatred on the spectrum of liking in the slew of people I have opinions of.

Well, in case you can't tell by my attitude, he called Chris a pinhead and not a patriot. I didn't watch it, but my brother (who for reasons not totally known to me, watches Fox News) told me about it. Bill said that he's made inquiries about having Chris on the show (and he's declined) to ask Chris, most likely, about the comments he made in a recent Rolling Stone interview (I read the preview on rollingstone.com), the interviewer asked Chris about a lyrical reference and if the "fox becomes a god" and a "carnival of idiots" is a reference to Fox News. It is and it is not a positive reference. Here is an excerpt from the preview of the interview on Rolling Stone.

Rolling Stone: On the first single, "Violet Hill," you sing about a fox becoming a god and a "carnival of idiots on show." Was the song inspired by Fox News?

Chris: No one's got that before, no one in the band, no one. The first line in that song is the first line of any song we ever wrote. Years ago, when Guy [berryman, bassist] heard that first line and that first little melody — "It was a long and dark December" — he said, "OK, I'll join the band." But we just didn't have the other 49 lines until last year. And then one day I was watching Bill O'Reilly, and I was like, "I know how to finish that song."

My best friend, Tim, he's a musician in a band called the High Wire, but he also has to work in a bar. He was having trouble with his boss, and it made me think that so many people spend their lives being told what to do by people that they just don't like. So it was that idea, and watching Bill O'Reilly, and all these words just came out.

NO.

i don't want chris anywhere near that man. i completely agree with your first paragraph, but if i was going to hate anyone that wasn't a murderer or something, #1 on that list would be bill o'reilly. i can't STAAAAND this man, and i know i'd just end up pissed off if chris ever was to go on there, and chris would probably end up angry and upset, just like almost every smart person that goes on that show.

i think i want to go punch bill o'reilly even more now for calling chris a pinhead, a) because he's dead wrong, and b) i use the word pinhead all the time and will probably now have to stop using that word simply because he uses it so much.

Wait a minute, he has a "'Patriot and Pinhead' segment"?!!? :freak: Whaa?

:speechless:

Now I understand why people hate Fox.

fox news is basically the devil, in my opinion :P

and bill o'reilly is the ringmaster. ohhh, i can hardly convey my hatred of that man.

for some reason, the fact that he's calling for chris to be on the show really makes me angry. unfortunately, i think o'reilly would bury chris. not that i think this is going to happen, but GAH.

I could not agree more , the man basically just uses his show to build on his ego , which is impossibly inflated to begin with , it is beyond me why anyone with intellect beyond that of a rock would speak to such a pretentious bastard , why bother!

i don't know why some people hate Chris!

really its just disgusting.

but he's such a nice man!

even some people in this forum hate Chris too ,well and they even doesn't want him to always see on magazines, pictures or what ever not even in the lead position.

they're fighting like anything to make him go away.

i'll not mention the people anyway.

but i know who i encountered though pretty much!

i don't even want to click that. i figure it'll just get me very angry.

eeesh, this page has FOX news ads on it because of the context. get me OUT!

I assure you, if you hate Bill O'Reilly, it'll give you a good laugh. Trust me, one of the funniest things I have ever had the pleasure of watching.

WOAH, come on Fox News. Yes everyone, I was an addict to Fox News for about 2 years. Then I traveled back and forth to MSNBC and CNN. I couldn't go a day without watching Bill O'Reilly. Yes, indeed, he was my world. I read his books, watched his show, and i listened to his radio Factor.

Now I see everything that he's doing and it's really stupid. Fox News REALLY changed in my opinion. I can't believe it. I use to really look up to them and now freakin Bill O'Reilly is calling Chris Martin a Pinhead. Why doesn't he go and talk about that Greenday guy? He hates America period. But no.... This just makes me mad. I'm glad I don't watch the news as much as I use too. The addiction has gone away.

i watch NBC, and CNN yeah.

only for news that's all!

and no other channel!

I was in a Best Buy last summer in Connecticut buying a CD, and I pass by the section that sells satellite radio receivers for cars, and they have an advertisement in that section showing a selection of people who have shows on satellite radio, on of whom is Bill O'Reilly. And I passed by it at first, but I thought, "Something didn't seem right with that picture." So I turned around and went back to see what it was... someone had drawn a Hitler 'stache on O'Reilly with a blue ballpoint pen. I took a picture with my phone. :)

...and that about sums up my feelings about Bill O'Reilly.

I predicted this would happen to my friends last week when I learned of the inspiration for the lyric. I saw the piece last night on the O'Reilly Factor and it pretty much went as expected. Bill challenged Chris (as he's done before) to be a man and come on the program and go toe-to-toe. I wouldn't want to see Chris do it... I personally think he (and any other prominant musician) needs to separate themselves from venues that strip away the mystique of their persona. IMO, most musicians taint their stock when they delve into political crusades, especially with today's soundbite media.

Now that I know the inspiration for the lyric, it cheapens the song to think that they used it to take a jab at a cable news network. Coldplay seems to be bigger than that, but that's just my $.02

this guy has had spats with alot of people like ludacris and nas.

Ludacris does make me laugh with his shout outs to him on his songs as he tries to taunt him. Nas got annoyed o reilly as he condemned his song got yourself a gun.

so it seems that not many people in the music industry like him as he's just trouble.

You can't win with O'Reilly because he simply won't open his ears (which have shit between them) to anything.

He's the antichrist.

He manipulates everything to make viewers see what he wants them to see...

Okay, everybody does that, but I hate this guy in particular.

If I were Chris, I'd steer clear of anyone named O'Reilly for my own good!!:stunned:

So what's gone on here? This O'Reilly guy is calling him a pinhead for referencing him in a song and then not wanting to go on the show?

Pfft thousands of people have awful things to say about Chris and you don't see him ringing them up and inviting them for a chat :dozey:

Seriously though, I'm glad he declined, if he'd gone on that show bad things would have happened, an argument or a storm out at least.
