The thread of SHOEGAZE!!

Featured Replies

I love Mazzy Star - saw them support Jesus & Mary Chain

Id also add early Dandy Warhols which was very shoegaze

Catherine Wheel were always good stuff

Sam (Fogarino of Interpol) and Adam (Swervedriver) have a new band that is just perfect - I saw them live as Setting Suns - but theyve changed their name.

Midnight Movies is also really good (newer)

and can never go wrong with Ride or the Cocteau Twins

Asobi Seksu is really good as well.

For the more dreampop Mallory is worth listening to

and for the gothic side - Love Spirals Downwards (much less of the heavy guitars)

and whoever mentioned Serena Maneesh - theyre awesome.

and the other day I heard a cover of "Christine" from the House of Love. I cringed - it wasnt the same. (from apollo heights) if anyone is wanting to hear it.

Most my friends are really into shoegaze music so we're always on the lookout for bands.

The House of Love were great, very under-rated :) They almost seemed to be the right band at the wrong time, if you can catch my drift??!! Christine, Hannah, Shine On, I Don't Know Why I Love You, all classics (and many more too).

Has anyone ever heard any Leviation? They were Terry Bicker's project after he left the HoL. Very intense, very musical and progressive. Great stuff at the time, though I haven't listened to them for over ten years (:shocked2:) must dig them out.

Back on-topic: I was reading the other day on the Wiki page (which actually is a decent read) that Galaxie 500 were also part of the inspiration for the bands we're discussing. Well worth a listen if you haven't heard them, my personal favourite's This Is Our Music, a fantastic album.

(Also read, interestingly, that they were themselves partly inspired by the incredible, and far too barely-known or appreciated, legend that is Jonathan Richman. Never knew that, but very welcome news!! :))

^ Jonathan Richman , is certainly a unique songwriter , and I would agree highly underappreciated...

For an excellent cover of "I Dont Know Why I Love You" - check out Ivy's version of it. She has the most beautiful voice (im totally blanking out on the lead singers first name). Actually Ivy could put out anything and Id listen to it.

Well that's splitting off more into Space-Rock. Still a decent band

Because they've been mentioned so much in reference to various coldplay songs like yellow and especially chinese sleep chant, I've been lately going through some songs of the band 'my bloody valentine'. I''ve always liked the genre, especially the 90s, early Nick McCabe side of it of it. But anyway...Just as I've been discovering this band I learned that in the past year they've regrouped after over a decade and are planning a new album. Considering how influential they've been, this struck me as big news that was worth sharing...

I like My Bloody Valentine and the Jesus & Mary Chain. I still listen to them every week.

I'm gonna buy the Lost in Translation DVD cuz MBV, J&MC, the Chemical Brothers and Bryan Ferry are all on the soundtrack.
