In the United Kingdom, the equivalent is a school formal. A school prom was unheard of until the late 1990s. It is believed to have started in Cambridge, where every school in the area had a special "school ball", and the name changed to a "school prom". Schools in England, Wales and Northern Ireland traditionally hold their formal (or prom) at the end of secondary school in Year 11 (aged 15/16) and the end of Sixth Form (aged 18). This is different from Scotland, where it is held only at the end of high school and boys have the option to wear kilts (kilts are also often seen in the other Celtic regions).

:stunned: Oh wow, I didn't realize that! Proms have been around here since at least the 1950s... probably even the early 1900s.

  • I can't give you the reasonings on why things changed, but I can give you an update from what I observed. The Oracle was run by Debs Wild. Debs is still with the band and helps out fans, for exam

Q. Dear Oracle

Talking about the Coldplay crew, do they get unemployed while the band isn't touring and working in the studio?

Thanks.

Piyush

The Oracle replies:

It depends on which crew members we're talking about but they don't become unemployed exactly, no.

Certain roadies and staff are working alongside the band during studio sessions too but any that aren't are free to take other work or tour with other acts.

One crew member for example went on tour with Gorillaz straight after the Viva tour ended but will rejoin the boys once they get back on the road.

Q. Hi O! I know you may have asked this before, but I would like to know how was Yellow clip made? How is it possible that in a few minutes the sky turned into a light blue and Chris didn't let footprints on the sand?!

Sorry if it's a repeated question but it's burning my head! Thank you!

PS: I can't wait for the new album!

The Oracle replies:

I have been asked about the video for [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CAME8GDRTfI]Yellow[/ame] before but was shocked to discover from the tag cloud that I haven't answered one since February 2009 - apparently.

Anyway, films/videos/photographs etc. can feature special effects used during shooting or they can be digitally enhanced afterward (removing footprints if necessary though I can see plenty).

In the case of Yellow, after the film was processed it went through another process called gradual grade that gave the impression of the day changing.

^ Well, that's a rather timely question! Although I can't reveal why atm... I'll leave that to the appropriate individual.

Oh, really ? :sneaky:

:inquisitive:

yeah the coincidence is uncanny

seriously

hopefully the person will come here soon

and Natascha if you happen to find out what I'm talking about please don't say anything

you are just a mean person, aren't you? coming in here with all of your ambiguity and suspense...

I know, I'm sorry people. The person said they would come here and post it, I'm hoping by the end of the week. I don't want to be rude and say something beforehand and steal the person's thunder... but I'll gladly build up the electricity. :nice:

haha not a problem, how come this person tells u everything though?!

This is something completely different than before. Not the same person. Not the same topic.

And I never talked to the other "person" anyway so I'm not really sure what you're talking about. I just had a suspicion.

well i just meant about this, do all the mods get told these things or are u special :laugh3:

i don't even know why i ask questions! the answers only make me more confused!

Q. Further to Pedro's question...so the video was not shot in real time?

The Oracle replies:

Although it looks like it was all done in one take, apart from the illusion of time passing quickly, they actually ran through the song five times and it was filmed in an hour.

Q. Hello, Oracle.

I'm just curious...

When did you start answering questions and how many questions have you answered?

Also, and this one may be trickier to quantify, but how many questions have you been asked?

Thanks!

The Oracle replies:

My first answer was posted back on 25th July 2008. Good grief has it really been that long?

I have answered 1975 questions. To be fair I could say it's less as a few were actually me posting Team Oracle Qs or it's more as some people have asked multiple Qs within their one submission.

Would you believe I have been asked 82,331 in total. Blimey!

My questions are in the 80356 that never got answered :nice:

:P

^ Hahaha- and yours are in the 356, mine are the other 80,000 to which I just kept clicking "resend" :(:dozey:

:uhoh: Okay, so assuming she doesn't work on the weekends, that's about 120 questions per day. I sure hope they pay her VERY well!

and answering questions isn't all she does...

yeah she also likes to confiscate fans' cameras and cell phones on party boats

^ :laugh3:
