I got a computer virus (PLEASE READ!!)

Featured Replies

My main desktop computer caught a virus cuz I was using it without any virus protection. Now all my files that I had saved (stories, written songs, school saves, ITUNES) are all G-O-N-E. It completely wiped out my entire computer.

So I installed iTunes on my other computer (which I am on now) and I figured if I plug in my iPod it'll sync and all my files will be on the new computer. WRONG!

It will only let me switch over purchased songs, and even then it stopped doing that for some reason. So I have 1,008 songs on my iPod and only about 76 of them stored on a computer. So if something were to happen to my iPod, I'm completely screwed.

So if anyone knows of any kind of software or any other means of transferring all my iPod files into iTunes without wiping out my iPod's library, I would give you a million dollars (metaphorically of course:dozey:). Please please please, someone get back to me on this, my iPod is like a son to me:\.

In the meantime, if something happens to your virus protection software and it needs to be reinstalled or just re-bought, DO NOT USE THAT COMPUTER AT ALL!!!! Take it from someone who lost 16 years worth of files, it's better to have no computer for a few weeks then to lose everything you had. So please take this advice.

Mate, ask Indy, she knows how to get songs off an ipod no problem.

And in the meantime, always use protection. did your parents never teach you that? :P

But the point of this thread is to warn people. You never think it could happen to you, BUT IT COULD. And getting a virus is a lot worse than it sounds.

.

hmm did you google this? have you tried opening the iPod's hard drive simply as a hard drive, by going to my computer> then clicking its drive? Are you on windows or mac?

I'm really sorry ... my advice to everyone is ALWAYS BACKUP ALL YOUR FILES ON AN EXTERNAL DRIVE!!

Im on windows, and yes, always back up all your files

Here's a way to quickly get files off a PC iPod without any extra software.

1. Plug in your iPod.

2. From the Desktop, go to My Computer and find the iPod (usually designated by a drive letter. i e. E: or F: )

3. Open the damn thing.

4. Go to Tools > Folder Options > View (the tab) > scroll to Show Hidden Files and Folders and click it.

5. Click OK

6. Go back to your iPod folder/drive, there you will find a new folder called iPod_Control

7. Open it.

8. The Music folder in it will have a bunch of folders named F00, F01 and so on. THEY HAVE YOUR MP3s. Look through the folders to find your stuff.

Sounds kinda messy though....

how to clean ur pc from viruses, etc

if u have virus(es) in ur PC just start formatting of each hard/local discs.... (move ur data files etc from one disc to another then format it and keep doing so until u've formatted all local discs ....)

Ill give that a try. Really Im just concerned with my purchased songs. I have about 800 CD songs that I could just re-rip if I had to. Its the remaining 100 or so bought songs from iTunes that I want stored. And as soon as I put them onto the comp Im gonna make backup CDs of all of them.

^really, ignore him. :dozey:

Right, so if all else fails you can transfer the purchased songs to the other computer and then rip from the cds. :( Good luck!!!

how do I transfer the purchased songs without risking wiping out my iPod?

Thats exactly whaat I was going to say. I rebooted my computer once because it was messed up, and used Yamipod to get it back. Worked brilliantly, brilliant piece of software, use it!

  • Author

I tried YamiPod but it asks what I want to open it with and I have no idea. And if I save it it just doesnt open.

Could someone walk me thru step-by-step how to download YamiPod?

  • Author

It has that window that comes up and says "Do you want to save the file or open it?'

Should I open or save?

  • Author

Okay YamiPod is open and it has all my songs and files ready. How do I transfer stuff into iTunes or my computer?

Ok, here's what I use to transfer music to my ipod.

http://www.mininova.org/tor/1108656

It's called ImTOO iPod Computer transfer. It works very well for me and thousands of other people. Going into iPod_Control is not going to help you out any but could possibly harm you as i've tried to do that before. Hope this works out for you.

BUT apparently you're using something else so.. whatever floats your boat. :)
