OMG Ten bucks a gallon gas, you should come over here where petrol is already at 10 bucks a gallon :P

oooooh i feel bad for you.

so i think i'm just gonna stay here. :D

And you know Obama wouldn't have been my first choice for the democratic nomination, I far prefer Hillary...BUT we can't afford to have Bush #2 with so much of the same dead end plans and solutions...it really comes down to that.

He's Bush 2.0 and Obama's a communist...

:laugh3:Sure, and what would Karl Marx have to say about that? Obama's got the right ideas, but the toughness to stave off the interests that keep buying him off, that will be the challenge. I think if we put constant pressure on Obama to do the right things, he will. But the moneyed interests are extremely powerful, and need to be reigned in to really change the process. & That's still a work in progress...

After a lengthy discussion today with my neighbors, I think they would have much preferred Palin to McCain for President, owing to her corruption fighting success in Alaska, and McCain's slide into corruption..

You're assuming he wants the right things in the first place. That in itself is a very long shot.

But lets get crazy and say he really believes, it would be almost impossible with the way our system is set up. You'd have to change congress, we'd need what i've been saying for a long time, a complete overhaul of our politicians as a whole.

We'd need a new congress.

Yes, that would be necessary - I agree.;) It's an essential right that has been missing from our Bill of Rights that needs addressing - the Right to Fair Elections. Now, with the politico Supreme Court deciding in a 5-4 decision that "money is free speech", it's almost going to require an amendment to the Constitution to change things; and that usually means a mass movement which recognizes the need, and pushes hard for a long time to get it through the various state legislatures. I recall how the ERA amendment failed as it's supporters simply ran out of steam, so it would be an uphill battle, but one that the American public could be ready for...?

Palin is a terrible pick. Her novelty will wear off after the convention. She wont attract that many women voters. According to a recent gallup poll, only for 9% of democrat women does Palin make them more likely to vote for mccain, while to 15% it makes it less likely. Also, she has NO experience. Nothing. Zero. She has not expressed any opinions regarding foreign policy. She is not a fiscal conservative, she left her little town of Wassalia 20 million dollars in debt. that is more than $3000 per resident!. She was very much in favor of the bridge to nowhere before the rest of the country found out about it. Only then did she oppose it. A fact that the Obama campaign will make sure the country is aware of.

But she balances out the ticket. She will be his opposite, like Biden is with Obama. A younger more conservative is what she brings, like Biden brings a older more experienced person to the mix.

Both of them did the exact same thing, pick someone unlike them to balance them out.

It will work out better for McCain because in his ticket he's like Biden, where in the Obama ticket, he's more like Palin. I think voters will like having a more experienced president then vice president.

It's almost like the republican presidential pick for president is equal to the Democrats vice presidential pick.

I think that's a moot point. Obama couldn't be more different that Palin, and vice versa. In the end, when the debates are over and people hear more about the policies most people are going to vote for what policies and whose opinions they share, not who has had more experience.

I'm not saying their similar as people, but as far as the ticked is they are.

Obama's young and unexperienced, and picked a older more experienced expert on foreign policy. The Republican ticket is the same, but flipped around. McCain is old and experienced and expert if foreign policy so he picked a younger face to balance him out.

Both tickets are old and experienced with a younger fresher face. Just for the dems its the front runner who is the young fresh face, where for the Republicans it's the older, differenced front runner.

Obama=Palin are young and "fresh" faces

Biden=McCain are older and considered foreign policy experts. Its the same ticket almost.

without a doubt this pick will backfire. initially people thought it was a good move just because she is a woman. however if you delve even the TINYEST bit into her life and political background it's scary how awful of a pick this was. mccain has alreaady dropped in the polls since his pick and even the miffed hilary supporters (who he was trying to win over) arent falling for this. IMO mccain didnt have to shock everyone with his VP pick... he was close enough in the polls that he didnt have to make such a desperate pick. tim palenti or even liberman would have kept him where he was in the polls but now he is in worse shape because of this pick. seriously i don't mean to offend anyone but i really dont see how anyone could vote for mccain/palin over obama/biden....

But Obama's pick was equally as bad. Biden is hated by many and has a huge mouth. He's already spoken out against obama on many occasions. Picking Biden will give McCain a lot of ammo against him. But I don't know much about Palin's past or what skeletons she has in the closet.

biden has a VERY accomplished past in foreign policy which is something obama was criticized for not having. he also has been around for a VERY long time which means he has experienced which is ANOTHER thing obama was criticized for not having. so by adding biden, obama addressed two of the biggest things he has been criticized about. i dont see how that is a bad pick at all...

palin was a governor in alaska for LESS than two years. which means she has absolutely NO experience especially for someone who is supposed to become the VICE PRESIDENT. she graduated from the university of idaho...? with only a bachelors degree in JOURNALISM. i dont know many politicians who majored in journalism? she got into politics by getting runner up in a Ms. Alaska pageant (the runner up received a position on city council). and if that wasnt bad enough... after he sister got a rough divorce from a policeman she tried to get him fired and when the person she asked wouldnt do it she got THAT person fired as well. so i dont really see how obamas pick was anywhere close to as bad as mccains....

Biden's bad qualities outweigh his good. He's said too much about Obama already.

If people bring experience into the mix, Obama has just a little bit more then Palin and he's the front runner. The only thing that will carry Obama to success will be young voters and they are very unreliable.

But with that being said this year could turn out a huge amount of young voters and give Obama the win, but in history that usualy does not happen. Republicans win more because they can get older voters to turn out and vote more often. If Obama can get the young people out in large number's he'll win and I think he can do that this year unlike any Democrat in history.

But picking Biden will alienate Independents and give McCain the advantage, the deciding factor I think will be younger voters. I am really intrigued to see how this plays out this year.

In the end you have a accomplished, well liked experienced front runner vs a well liked unexperienced unaccomplished front runner. The dems will have more success if they had their ticked flipped around.

I can't wait until the debates though, especially between the VPs....

McCain is accomplished, but in what sense? He's gone to the dark side of the force, and has voted almost in lock step (or shall we say goose step?) with the Republican party machine on almost every bill, unwaveringly. Maybe that would be fine if the bills favored the American people, but often they are written by and for the corporations and their interests, in order to protect themselves from efforts to reign in their power and abuses, and carve up more pork. Contrast that to Obama, who has taken his chances in voting his conscience on issues like the Iraq war.

But the real test this season will be overcoming the money machine that pours money like water into TV ads and the like. As far as the VP goes, what I've been hearing, and it does make sense, is that the VP makes a 1/2 to 1 % difference in any given election. It might make or brake the final outcome if it's extremely close, but otherwise is less of a factor than the Presidential candidates and their strategies.

hahaha the VP debate will be soooo lopsided! biden will dominate.

and to mrcool: you say biden's bad qualities outweigh his good yet you have not named ONE of his bad qualities! he spoke against obama... ok so did every other democrat who ran in the early stages of the primaries. if you think the fact that he insulted obama outweighs his foreign credentials i have to say that isnt the slightest bit true. and how ON EARTHHHH can you say obama has the same amount as experience as Palin?!?! obama went to occidental and COLUMBIA and actually studied things useful to being president (political science, internataional affairs). that definated outdoes palins BA in JOURNALISM from IDAHO! not even to mention the fact that obama went to harvard law. the differences in their education alone sets them apart by miles. then if you add in the fact that obama has been a major politician since 96 (he was first in the Illinois senate) and became a US senator in 2005 that definatelay tops Palins 1 and a half years as GOVERNOR OF ALASKA. i mean come on... the two arent even CLOSE when it comes to political expereince. it's one thing to try to compare old man mccain and obama but saying palin has the same amount of experience is flat out ABSURD!

Well no American politician is accomplished.

But he as far as politicians go has a good record with foreign policy, Iraq, being able to work well with Democrats.

Obama votes for the people who pay for his elections, he's no different then McCain, they're both bought off by the rich. Just Obama's SAYS he's not. McCain will have a lot of past experiences in office to help him in this campaign.

McCain and Obama are almost the same, they just talk differenty.

But it's vise versa for the presidential debate, and that what truly matters. The same reason Palin would lose is the same reason Obama would lose. So having a older more experienced front runner over a the opposite will almost always win.

Biden=McCain where Obama=Palin in most peoples eyes. But Bidens past is his biggest problem, he's said too much and that will haunt him.

I think McCain picked Palin mainly because she's a hottie.:P She's there to attract the male Bull-moose vote (Teddy Roosevelt's era..).:laugh3: And what would Bull Winkle have to say about that? Hmm??

Face the Facts. She's a cute chick to draw in the vote! Works like a charm every time in our celebrity culture. Why Palin, and not some other female politician?? I think it's because of the charm effect..:P

I have, she's the opposite of McCain bringing what McCain can't to the table. Biden is the opposite of Obama bringing what he cannot to the table. They made the same choice, picking their opposite.

You could easily say the same thing about Obama being a handsome young face, that's why he got the nomination.

neither one picked the right choice

mccain should've taken lieberman and obama should've taken bayh

I mostly agree, Lieberman would have been the best choice but I still think he'll do well with Palin.
