chris is a perfectionist.. so if he couldn't be bothered with this... why not just lip sync?

I think he's a perfectionist so much that he'd rather have parts of the song pumped out than them not sound right. Like the LiJ piano. He sings over a backing track for quite a few of the songs too. Can hear it in that performance of VLV in fact.

Well, fairplay I say. If you're going to blatantly use multiple backing tracks, show some confidence about it! Chris did a similar thing at the June BBC gig when the TV in the background showed him playing the Lovers in Japan keyboard part - that very hand was in fact scrabbling around behind said TV for something! To all those who say 'it diminishes the live performance' I say 'it adds something no other band have done so well since Martha's Harbour on TotP' :D

At least they're honest about it. He did say during LiJ at the Radio 2 gig that he couldn't be bothered to play it.

 

I don't think it diminishes the performance, I do see why they do it during the big gigs. Is just when they do small gigs/TV shows I'd like to see them be a bit more natural :D

I always thought it was more of a no choice thing.. if they didn't back track the whole of the song would change.. for exapmle during LIT.. it's just not possible to do the ding ding thing live (dunno what i's called)
