politikswingg
I'm still so confused from what he's said about the new album coming out next year. So they're basically going to set out a new album for their 10 years of being in a band together? And then I'm guessing there's going to be a tour in 2010, no doubt. But has anyone read or anything what they might do after? I know Chris said they won't be around for a very long time and I got worried at that part! TraceOddity
Actually, they've already been in a band for 12 years. And Chris always says things like that. He said it at the Brits too, and nothing came of it. I wouldn't worry.;) And I don't think there's been anything said about what comes after 2010. If there has, someone please correct me. politikswingg
Yeah, I know how he is with that stuff. But you never know.
ApproximatelyInfinite
chris likes to say things. even though i get worried about them on occasion, rarely do i believe them. i didn't really even believe that we'd get an EP in march, though, and now look! we're getting it in december! i just don't think that they'll officially call it quits, beatles-style. they might take a long break, which will be well-deserved at that point (two albums and an EP in two years!!), but i think in 5-7 years or so at most, they'll be back :D. i don't think they can stay away. busybeeburns
Q. Anyone know of bands that released a record (which album?) and then just disappeared without touring?
Carlaatje
I don't think Chris can ever stop writing and no one other then these o3 guys with him right now can put up with his madness
nkydickson
yeah Chris does say alot of dumb (but hailorous) things I do believe that maybe after a tour in 2010 they will take a serious break b\c they have been working so hard for the past 12 years and they all have little ones and such, but Chris said in the Paris interview that they will continue to make music as long as they are still friends and if they've made it this far I doubt anything can tear them apart -especially Jonny + Chris ! We wont be around at least 6 years. And that was on 2006 Brit Awards. So I really dont buy what he says. He always says stuff like that. Its Chris. ApproximatelyInfinite
Q. Anyone know of bands that released a record (which album?) and then just disappeared without touring? the beatles sort of did this with every album from sgt. pepper on. or do you mean disappear permanently? i guess they did that too after abbey road, even though let it be was recorded first. seriously, though, by "end the decade," i really think chris means end the actual decace of 2000-2010. i don't think he means end the COLDPLAY decade (which will have been more than a decade by then anyway). Fixed
I think it's perfectly fine for them to carry on as a functioning band and still release an album every 2/3 years AND spend plenty of time with their family. I'm not being an arse (ok, maybe I am) but it's sort of them who make a big deal over things and build up the attention around them, as well as the press I know. If they just wrote some songs, Sleeping Sun style-y, low-key, zero production, but still bloody fantastic, and didn't bother with the massive marketing campaigns or the lights and live show extravaganza and played some small shows, then they'd get the best of both worlds. Never going to happen in a million years, but one can always hope.
Open-Politik
I think they will keep releasing you know, these little EPs in between albums to us entertained until the albums actually come out, with no Marketing, like IN RAINBOWS maybe. They dont need to release singles or anything, like Led Zeppelin just get them out there. And they said they wanna catch up with the Beatles because apparently they released a lot in short time scales. I dont think they will ever leave us alone for 3 years again!! I hope! Cobalt
To end the decade. Well what the hell does "to end the decade" mean? Not "finish work and call it quits" the last time I checked
the hitcher
You should know Chris by now. He said that they wouldn't carry on after A Rush Of Blood.... that was 6 years ago :laugh3: :D Take no notice of Chris :laugh3:

Cobalt
5-7 years is a massive time in the music industry... it might be more difficult for them if they're out of the loop that long, but if they manage to keep up with the changing ways, they might be right - free download first single was a smart and slightly newer idea from the boys which shows they should be able to do so, as well as the "two-for-one" songs on the album. However, I don't think they'd be able to keep away from each other making music together for that long - they'd have too much music seeing how Eno's approach kick-started their writing again - White Shadows had to be pushed onto X&Y by Guy and Chris didn't even really want The Hardest Part on the album either because "it sounded too much like REM" - which indicates a slowdown in their writing in that period.
