SUPER COLDPLAY

the sequel

Part Three

CHRIS’ POV

I looked around. Where was I? Hmmm. It was a field…but the sky was pitch black, only thee stars and swirls of space giving it light. This was weird.

“Chris! It’s been awhile!”

“Who’s there?” I turned around to find a black bull sitting at a table.

“Take a seat,” it spoke. “Tea?”

Reluctantly, I sat down. “Uh…sure?” A cup of my favorite tea appeared in front of me. “Thanks?”

“So…how’ve you been? I hear the superhero thing has been working out quite well for you boys.”

No words would escape my mouth. Was I REALLY talking to a bull?

The creature shifted in his seat. “I really am impressed with you.”

“I’m sorry,” I shook my head, “but I’m so”

“Confused?” He sighed. “Why does this always happen with you humans?” He gazed at me for a moment. “Could I at least give you a piece of advice for future reference?”

“Okay…” What kind of whacked dream was this?

A serious look came over the bull’s face. “Nuts are your friends.”

“What?”

“Nice chatting with you, Christopher!”

Suddenly I was swallowed up by blackness. The last thing I heard was the bull’s voice.

“Nuts are your friends!”

--------------------------------------------------------------

Chris’ eyes opened abruptly. He was sweating a little, the dream seeping into his thoughts. He glanced around, memories of the past night canceling out those of the awkward dream.

Jonny’s fingers ran over Chris’ side. “You awake?”

“Yeah,” Chris rolled over to look in Jonny’s green eyes. “I had the craziest dream last night…”

Jon laughed. “You always have weird dreams! What happened this time?”

“There was a bull…he said nuts are my friends…”

“What would that mean?”

Chris shrugged. “Maybe he knows that I’m…well, gay?”

Jonny gave him a hug. “I love you, too.”

“Yeah, I know.”

---------------------------------------------------------------------

AT THE BAKERY

“Has anyone seen Guy?” Jonny asked nervously. They’d been waiting in the bakery for an hour, and Guy still hadn’t shown up.

Chris rolled his eyes. “He’s always late.”

“I’ll call him,” Will set down his magazine and grabbed his cell phone. He dialed Guy’s number and sighed when someone picked it up. “Guy? Where the bloody hell are you?! You were supposed to meet us an hour ag-oh…oh…sorry. Thanks.”

“What’s up?” Chris jumped onto the couch.

“Uh…wrong number.”

The two laughed.

Will rolled his eyes and tried another number. “Guy?” All he heard on the other line was a bunch of squeaking. “Guy? Is that you?” The line went dead. Will frowned and glanced at Jonny. “Can you get in touch with him? Something’s wrong.”

Jonny closed his eyes for a minute, letting his mind wander through all the thoughts around him. “I’m not getting much…its sort of…muffled?”

“I think he’s in trouble.”

“There was a bull…he said nuts are my friends…”

“What would that mean?”

Chris shrugged. “Maybe he knows that I’m…well, gay?”

Installment 7

Chapter 1

An Education

"What will the other kids be like?" Catherine asked.

"Just like you," Guy told her, "Smart and funny and very pretty."

She giggled.

"What if no one wants to play with me?" She asked.

"Then you just go over and play with them," he advised.

"What if the teacher is mean?" She asked, with a serious look on her face.

"All teachers are mean," Guy said.

"Guy......." Fab gave him a look and shook his head.

"Okay," Guy corrected himself, "All teachers are not mean. They are just stern. If you behave and do what they tell you, everything will be fine."

"Daddy, what does 'stern' mean?" she asked.

"You know, tough," he explained.

"I don't think you are very stern," she said, laughing.

Guy and Fab both laughed.

"Get some sleep," Guy told her, "Tommorrow is a big day."

"I wish I could go with her," Fab said, leaning his head on Guy's shoulder.

"She will be fine," Guy said.

"I'm not worried about her,"Fab said, "I'm worried about me."

Guy laughed.

"You will be fine too," he said.

"It's just that she is so little," Fab said, "And what if the other kids do pick on her? What if she comes home and doesn't want to go back? I won't send her back. I can't do it."

"It's only pre-school," Guy said. "It's only for a few hours. And I predict that she will come home with lots of new friends and lots of wild stories."

"I hated school," Fab said.

"Yeah?" Guy asked, "Why?"

"Because I wanted to play all day and the teacher had some odd notion that she thought I needed to learn the ABC's or something."

"I loved school," Guy said.

"I could have guessed that," Fab told him. "You are so quiet and well-behaved. I bet you were the teacher's pet."

"Wrong," Guy said, "The teachers hated me because I never talked and they didn't know what I was thinking."

"What were you thinking?"

"Mostly about how to get out of class so that I could study what I wanted to and about how to find a way to charm the popular girls."

"I thought you went to an all boys school."

"Yes," Guy explained, "But where there is an all boys school, there is usually an all-girls school not far away."

"That doesn't make any sense. Doesn't that sort of defeat the purpose?"

"You would think so, huh?" Guy said.

"Sometimes adults just don't know what they are doing. And educated adults are the worst kind."

Chapter 2

An Education

"Hello, I am Mrs. Willis," the lady said, extending her hand to Guy.

Guy shook her hand and told her his name.

"Why you must be Catherine," She said, smiling broadly at her.

"Yes, Catherine Olivia Berryman-Moretti," she said, matter-of-factly.

"My that's quite a name for such a small girl," Mrs. Willis said.

"She lives up to it," Fab said.

They all laughed.

Then Mrs. Willis said, "Catherine, why don't you go find a seat? I need to talk to your father."

"Yes, ma'am," Catherine said, walking away.

She only looked back once and waved good-bye.

"Is there a problem?" Guy asked.

"Well, you didn't fill out all the information on the form," she said.

"Oh, I'm sorry. We're kind of nervous. What did we miss?"

"Right here,"Mrs. Willis said, pointing to a blank line.

"Where it says 'Mother'. We need the full name of the mother."

"Why?" Fab asked.

"In case of emergency, if you cannot be reached we will need to contact the mother."

"The mother isn't involved in Catherine's life," Guy said.

"Oh no???" Mrs. Willis said with a questioning look.

"No. We are Catherine's parents."

"Excuse me?" She asked.

"We are Catherine's parents," he repeated.

"The two of you?" She asked, looking from one to the other.

Her face looked as if she had just eaten something bitter and distasteful.

"Yes," Guy said, slowly, "The two of us. Mr. Moretti and I are her parents."

"Oh dear," she said, "I had no idea."

"Is that a problem?" Fab asked.

"No, no. I don't think so," she said.

"If it is a problem," Guy said, "I am sure that we would have no trouble finding another pre-school for her."

"No," Mrs. Willis said, turning to look at Catherine, who was sitting quietly in her seat.

"She seems like a darling child."

"We don't want anyone to feel uncomfortable,"Fab said, "Especially not Catherine."

"I'm sure it will be fine," Mrs. Willis said, giving them her best fake smile.

Chapter 3

An Education

"Daddy I made three friends today," Catherine said, excitedly.

She had been attending pre-school for two weeks and loved it.

"Well, let's see that makes your total eleven for this week,"Fab told her.

"No," she said, shaking her head.

"No?" he asked.

"Jill isn't my friend anymore," Catherine said.

"Why not?" Guy asked.

"I don't know," Catherine said, nonchalantly, "She just said her mother didn't want her to play with me anymore."

Guy and Fab exchanged worried looks.

"Is that all she said?" Guy asked.

"Yeah," Catherine said, "Can I go play now?"

"Sure, honey," Guy told her.

"What do you think that means?" Fab asked.

"I don't know," Guy said, "But I don't like how it sounds."

"Me either,"Fab said.

"It never occured to me that people could be so closed-minded," Guy said, "I mean I remember Will's first reaction, but to take out your bias on a child is unforgivable."

"At least Catherine doesn't know anything," Fab said.

"Not yet. But one day she will."

"I thought things were different here," Fab said, "I could have expected this in America."

The doorbell rang.

Guy went to answer it.

"Mr. Berryman?"

"Yes?" Guy said.

"I am Cecilia Burns and this gentleman is Sgt. Black."

"Can I help you?" Guy asked.

"May we come in?" she said.

"What for?" Guy asked.

He didn't like her tone and he didn't like that she had a police officer with her.

She smiled stiffly.

"We have some issues we need to discuss with you," she said.

"What issues?" Fab asked, joining Guy at the door.

"I am from Childrens' Services," she said, "Sgt. Black and I are here to remove your child from this home."

:uhoh: NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

but the teacher's name is ms. willis

Chapter 4

An Education

"Remove her?" Guy asked.

"Why?" Fab asked.

"Because it has been determined by a family court that she is being exposed to a harmful and decadent atmosphere living here."

"That's crazy," Guy said.

"Perhaps in your opinion," She said, in a clipped tone, "But not in the opinion of the family court judge."

She took a sheaf of papers from a folder and handed it to him.

"This is the order that gives me the legal right to take her and this policeman is here to see that the order is enforced."

"Can they do this?" Fab asked Guy.

"I don't know," he said, as he was reading through the papers.

"Oh I assure you we can do this and we will,"She said, "Now if you would please go get the child."

"No," Fab said, "No."

The policeman stepped forward.

"Sir," he said, "You can get her or I will. The choice is yours."

Fab and Guy looked at each other.

Neither knew what to do.

They just knew that for now they had to give Catherine up.

"How long do I have to stay with these people?" Catherine asked.

"Not that long," Guy told her, "It will be like a sleepover. There will be lots of other kids there."

"But I'll miss you," She said, climbing into his lap.

"No, you won't," Guy told her, "You'll be too busy having fun."

"Really?" she asked.

"Promise," Guy said, trying very hard not to cry.

She put her arms around his neck.

"I love you, daddy," she said.

Fab was standing in the doorway watching.

He turned away and put his hands over his face.

"Do you have everything?" Guy asked her.

"Toothbrush? Pajamas? Dolls? "

She nodded after every question.

"Can I take this?" she asked, jumping from his lap and running to her book shelves.

She picked up a framed photo of the three of them.

"Sure, honey," Guy said, picking her up.

In the hallway, Guy handed her to Fab.

"I love you," she said, and placed a big wet kiss on his cheek.

"You'll be home soon," he told her, "We will see to that."
