Nobody Said It Was Easy

The Complete Story

Part 1

It was one in the morning. Chris and I had just entered my flat, by which I mean I was basically carrying him through the door. We'd all been out drinking, and though he only had a few beers, that man could not hold his liquor whatsoever. He was certainly in no state to be anywhere by himself, so I took the liberty of allowing him to sleep at my place.

“Shh!” I told him, attempting to get him to lower his voice. He was singing his heart out, belting some odd rendition of what I think was a song from a children's program. It sounded vaguely familiar, but I was having a hard time remembering where I'd heard it.

“...IS THE PIZZA, YEAH, FOR YOU AND... ” he bellowed, soon changing to the most extreme falsetto I'd ever heard. “MEEEEEEEE!!” The kid's got talent, sure, but when it's past midnight, you don't really want drunks yelling at the top of their lungs in an apartment building filled with people who don't take too kindly to being woken up at such a late hour, especially when they've got to be up by six the next day. I mean, technically it was already the next day, but whatever.

“Come on, you're going to bed.” I threw him down on the couch and rubbed my sore arms.

“No, I'm not tired,” he said, bouncing back up and stumbling his way across the room. He bumped into the table that was next to the couch several times, nearly knocking it over once.

“Chris, at least sit down, please?” I grabbed his arm and tried to pull him back to the couch. After a bit of a struggle, involving me nearly getting kicked, punched, and elbowed in the face all at once, I finally achieved my goal, and Chris sat down, babbling like an idiot, which was actually not necessarily anything new. “You just stay here, OK? I'll be right back.”

“Jonny, do you want me to sing to you?”

“Yeah, sure,” I replied, walking away to retrieve sleep accessories for him.

“Jonnyboy,” he started. I couldn't hear whatever else he said, or sang, rather, because I was too far away. When I walked back into the living room, he'd stopped singing. He'd stopped talking, too.

I shuffled my way to the couch and peeked over the back. Despite allegedly not being tired, he'd already fallen asleep. Laughing quietly to myself, I threw the stuff on top of him and headed towards my room.

As I was slightly stumbling down the hallway, a bit drunk myself, I couldn't help thinking about a few things. Sure, I think about things a lot, and I think about a lot of things, but this was different. Chris' face, completely absorbed in a recently-started, yet peaceful- and deep-looking sleep, was etched into my head. Peaceful, as I previously mentioned, and also a bit... adorable? I don't know. And I didn't know then, either. Or maybe I did, but being drunk, I was a bit unsure.

Adorable does sound like a fairly accurate description, although I wouldn't rely on anything I come up with while intoxicated. And that's exactly what I did... or didn't do. I didn't think twice about what I was thinking once about, because I was drunk and sometimes I get a bit, you know, randy when I'm drunk. That's just the way I am, and if the only person around me happens to be male, and my best friend, and a devilishly handsome and talented one at that, then so be it. Well, maybe not devilishly handsome, because I was drunk and I can't trust my judgment when I'm drunk. But I was almost one hundred percent positive that he was both male and my best friend.

Part 2

It was lonely on the couch. Even in my sleep I could tell it was lonely. I have this strange ability to tell what's going on around me when I'm sleeping. For instance, this one girl I went out with left my apartment about three minutes after I'd fallen asleep. She snuck back in the bed in the morning, trying to trick me or something, but I knew. I think she only used me for my body.

Lonely, and also really warm. It was summertime, so I don't know why Jonny threw a heavy comforter on me, but he did. I suspect he was a bit drunk. Seeing as I was asleep, however, I couldn't do anything about it. I just had to sit there, all alone and hot in my dream world, and suffer. Then something kinda hit me, and I say 'kinda' because I was asleep, and the only time something has ever hit me when I was asleep was when my brother “accidentally” knocked me in the face while trying to push me off of him.

Anyway, my dream me thought 'Oh, you're in your lovely little dream world, Christopher, so you needn't be lonely! Simply dream of someone to fill the burning, empty hole of desire that burns through your empty heart.'

'What? Me? You think I should dream of someone?'

'Well, I'm certainly not going to do it for you!' Which was a ridiculous thing for myself to think, being me.

'Oh, and I suppose I should dream of some lovely lady, right? What if I don't want a lovely lady?'

'Are you coming out to yourself, Christopher?'

'No, but Jonny's pretty girly sometimes, right?'

'Actually, he's about a thousand times manlier than you.'

'Oh, sure, but I mean... well, then I can be the girl!' And suddenly I was not only alone and hot, but I was also wearing a dress. Then Jonny came over, dressed in a tight, blue V-neck and some tight, blue jeans, which I guess was what my dream me considered manly, and sat down next to me. At least it looked good on him, though.

So there we sat, in my dream world. I was no longer lonely with Jonny there, but I was still hot and in a dress. Then something else kinda hit me. I was hot in a different way. Not in a Jonny-hot way, but in a 'damn, Jonny's hot' way. To put it bluntly, I was getting really turned on.

I must have woken myself up, because I opened my eyes. I also must have been sleepwalking, because I woke up in Jonny's bed. Oops.

“Chris, what are you doing?” he asked. There was absolutely no chance that he hadn't noticed me.

“Hmm?” I tried to play it off as though I had no clue what had happened. That's true, actually, but I also tried to play it off like it was his fault. “What are you talking ab- Oh my God, I'm in your bed?! Jonathan, I'll have none of this.” I jumped off the bed and walked towards the door, all the while saying something to the effect of, “Taking advantage of unconscious friends... tsk tsk!” I made sure to put an extra emphasis on each 'tsk'.

I suspect I was a bit drunk as well.

Part 3

“Hey, Jonny,” Chris said, leaning over the table and staring at me with those big blue eyes of his. We were in my kitchen, eating breakfast. “I can't hide anymore, or I don't want to, anyway.”

“You're not hiding, Chris, I can see you're right in front of me.”

“Oh, Jonny. You're so silly,” he said, laughing. “And that's what I love about you. You're also insanely gorgeous.” I looked up from my plate.

“I am?”

“Yes. And I know you weren't taking advantage of me last night. I sleepwalked into your bed.” He did this adorable sort of shrug thing. It was adorable. Then he added, in a dreamy voice, “Do you think that means we're meant to be?”

“No.”

“Damn.”

“But this does!” I kissed him. “Actually, that doesn't either, but it was nice.”

“Oh, yes, very nice. In fact, let's do it again.” He leaned closer to me, mouth slightly open, and I kissed him yet again. Nothing too fancy, you know. It was only our second time.

“Ugh, I just kissed a guy!!” he exclaimed as he pulled away. “Twice!!”

“No, you just kissed a Jonny twice.” Sometimes I am just too witty for me to handle.

“Oh, I see what you did there! See, it's when you say things like that that I stop caring that you're a guy,” he laughed. “Oh, I mean, a Jonny.”

“Oh, that makes it sound like I'm a girl or something,” I frowned.

“No, trust me, I was the girl. I didn't look half-bad in that dress... maybe I should consider a wardrobe change.”

“What the hell are you talking about?”

“A dream I had.”

“And you were wearing a dress? Sometimes I wonder about you, Chris...”

“Ah, but you'd like that, though, wouldn't you? If I was, like, a transsexual or something.”

“You mean, 'cause you'd be a girl? Well, I don't know... guy or not, you're still Chris. Although, I'm not sure how your personality would fare on a woman. I'd imagine you'd be quite... no, actually, it might just be perfect.”

“Well, there's only one way to find out.”

“Please don't get a sex change.”

“Fine!” he said, rolling his eyes. “But only because you said not to.”

“You're so weird.” He grinned. “I love it.”

Part 4

“Did you ever notice how half of Coldplay are words?” I asked Jonny as we were walking to the Bakery.

“What do you mean?”

“Guy and Will. They're both words.”

“Oh. No, I never noticed that. I guess you learn something new everyday, huh?”

“Yeah. But Chris and Jonny aren't words... do you think that means we're meant to be?”

“What is it with you and thinking we're meant to be?” he asked.

“You don't think we're meant to be?” I frowned.

“Chris, I only just acknowledged my feelings for you this morning. Give it some time, yeah?”

“You could still think we're meant to be,” I muttered.

“What are we, anyway?”

“We are human... not dancer.”

“No,” he laughed. “I mean, like... are we together or something?”

“Jonny, I've only kissed you twice and you already want to call me your boyfriend? It's tempting, but... ah, who am I kidding? I'm gonna have to say yes.”

“Boyfriend... that's so weird.”

“Please, like you've never had a boyfriend before?” I glared at him. “Yeah, me neither. But there's a first for everything!”

“I guess so.”

“I've never really had a girlfriend, either...”

“Well, you can't now. You're taken,” he said, and he reached for my hand, intertwining his fingers with mine.

“Hmm... OK!” I smiled. “But one of these days...”

“Yeah, we'll see about that.”

“Oh ho! What is that supposed to mean, Buckland?”

“Uh... I'm not actually sure.”

“Uh huh. You wuv me.”

“Yeah, and we're obviously meant to be,” he sarcastically replied.

“Yep. You're like, 'Oh, Chris, your so sexy and stuff! Be mine fo' evahhhh!' ” He laughed and rolled his eyes. “And I'll say, 'Of course.' ”

Part 5

“Help me,” I said to Guy. We were outside the Bakery, waiting for Chris and Will to stop fighting over whatever they were fighting over.

“Help you with what?” he asked.

“It's Chris.”

“OK... and...?”

“Well, we're sorta dating now, right, and he's a little-”

“Whoa. Did you just say dating? You guys are dating??”

“Uh huh, and he's a little-”

“Wow. Interesting. Aw, but you guys make a cute couple, I'm sure.”

“Yeah, thanks. Anyway, he's a little-”

“Ew, wait. You guys haven't, like... done anything, have you? Or maybe I don't want an answer to that.”

“No, we haven't 'done anything'. We've only started going out this morning. But, he's already a little-”

“Only this morning, really?”

“Are you gonna let me finish my fucking sentence?”

“Not with that attitude.”

“Guy.”

“Jonny.” At that moment, Chris walked outside and over by Guy and I.

“Hey, Jonnyboy,” he said, slipping an arm around my shoulder and kissing my ear. He turned to Guy, who looked completely unfazed. “Oh, you already told him? I wanted to freak him out.”

“Yeah, sorry.”

“So, what did you want to say to me about Chris, Jonny?” Guy asked deviously.

“Nothing,” I replied.

“No, you wanted to tell me something. What was it? Surely you can tell me even with Chris here, can't you?” I turned to Chris. He had the most worried look on his face.

“It was something bad, wasn't it?” Chris quietly asked.

“Not bad, per se...”

“Then what was it?” He aimed his big blue eyes at me.

“It's just... you're a little too... how should I put this? You're moving a little too fast... kinda.”

“How...?”

“We're meant to be? That's, like...” As I searched for the words to finish my sentence, a chuckling noise came from the direction of Guy. Both Chris and I turned to look at him.

“This is great. Dating for not even a day and you're already having issues. This is why I don't bother actually dating.”

“No, you just go around being a man-whore,” I retorted.

“Yeah, that way I don't have to deal with the craziness of women... or worse, Chris.”

“Hey! Sure, maybe he's a neurotic freak sometimes, but he's my neurotic freak, and there's nothing wrong with him.”

“OK, OK,” Guy replied, raising his hands and slowly walking away. “Touchy. I'm leaving now, so I'll see you guys later.”

“Yeah, bye,” I said as Guy rounded the corner. I turned to Chris, who had a huge grin on his face. “What?”

“You defended me.”

“Yeah, I guess so.”

“You said I'm your neurotic freak.”

“ 'Cause you are,” I replied, blushing a little. He walked forward and wrapped his arms around me.

“And you're my Jonnyboy.”

Part 6

Jonny, you are the sea

Upon which I float

And I came here to talk

I think you should know

Green eyes

You're the one that I wanted to find

And anyone who tried to deny you

Must be out of their mind

It was a song I was very familiar with, seeing as it was one of ours. Why it popped up in my dream, I had no idea. I was in a coffee shop (in my dream, of course) just looking at this newspaper and drinking some coffee, when out of the blue I heard the song. It slowly drifted into my ears, soothing and calming me. Chris was singing it, naturally, and his beautiful voice touched my heart even in the dream. After a little bit, though, I realized that I only heard his voice. No guitar, no drums, no bass. Just Chris' voice.

I opened my eyes slowly and turned on my side so that I was facing the empty space next to me. The only problem was that it wasn't empty.

“Chris?! What the hell are you doing?!?!” I exclaimed.

“I-I was lonely...”

“So you left your apartment and came here?”

“Yeah... you hate me now, don't you?”

“No, I don't hate you. I just think it's a little creepy that you snuck into my apartment and were lying in my bed without me knowing about it.”

“Well, you were asleep.”

“That doesn't make it less creepy.”

“Sorry. I'll just go now.”

“No, stay.” I surprised myself a bit when I said that. It's not that I didn't want him to stay, it's just he was being a bit creepy.

“Are you sure?”

“Yeah.” As I stared at the silhouette of Chris' body, the dream I'd had came flooding back to me. The song... the song that only contained Chris singing... “Wait... were you singing to me while I was asleep?”

“Maybe I should go now.”

“Chris, you're not leaving.”

“Yes, I am.”

“No, you're staying here with me,” I said, grabbing him and pulling him as close to me as possible. “See? Now you can't leave. You're stuck here.”

“Oh no! This is ever so horrible!” he mock cried. Switching to a seductive voice, he added, “Please don't hurt me, Mr. Buckland.”

“That's Jonnyboy to you.”

“Oh, sorry. Jonnyboy?”

“Yes, prisoner?”

“I love you.”

“Chris, you're ruining the fun.”

“Oh, you think trapping people against their will is fun?”

“Yes. But you're moving too fast again, remember?”

“Right. Sorry. We'll try again,” he said. “...Jonnyboy?”

“Yes, prisoner?” I repeated.

“I like you.” I laughed and kissed his cheek.

“I like you, too.”

Chapter 1[/size][/b]

Confessions

Jonny looked over at Chris.

He was curled up into a fetal position, sleeping soundly in the airplane seat.

Jonny shook his head, stood up, got a blanket out of the overhead compartment and stretched it across Chris.

Chris turned a little in the seat, but kept sleeping.

"Why does he always do that?" Guy asked.

"You mean, why doesn't he recline the seat down like a normal person?" Jonny asked.

"Yeah," Guy said.

"Because he never thinks he is going to sleep," Jonny said, "He runs around like a whirling dervish and when he stops for a second he goes to sleep."

Suddenly, the plane lurched and Jonny had to grab on to the overhead compartment to prevent himself from falling on top of Chris.

Guy's eyes widened.

"It's nothing," Jonny told him, "It happens all the time. You are usually asleep or too busy on Twitter to notice."

Guy accepted the answer and sat back in his seat, again playing with his IPhone.

Jonny went back to the book he was reading.

Will was listening to his IPod.

Lightning flashed outside Jonny's window.

He slid down the windowscreen so that the lightning didn't distract him again.

The plane lurched again.

Will, usually incredibly calm, had seen the flash.

He moved up closer to where the others sat.

"That was a little freaky," he told Jonny.

"We fly through storms all the time," Jonny said.

"I know," Will said, "It is just that I got a weird shiver up my spine."

Will was notorious for his "weird shivers." They were rarely if ever wrong.

"Should I wake Chris?" Jonny asked.

"No, Let him sleep," Will said.

The pilot came over the loudspeaker.

"Guys, you better put your seat belts on," he said, "Looks like we have a patch of rough weather ahead."

Jonny shook Chris awake.

"Put your seat belt on," he told him.

"Why?" Chris asked, still half asleep.

"Because the pilot said so," he told him.

Out of the corner of his eye, Jonny saw Will shiver again.

Wow! :surprised: That's pretty much what happened to me on the flight home! We ran into some lightning storms and the turbulence and sudden jerking were....ugh. I was getting nervous.

And I love how cute Guy and Will are in your story, even just as buddies.

I'm going to write a Chrissy / Jonny fic.

Where Chris is a superhero.

!!!

EDIT: Nah, not going to work the way I wanted to. Nevermind..

Hey guys, I know I wasn't in here for a while which has a very good explanation. :smug: I'm on language hollidays at the moment and I'm in Cambridge in England.

But I just wanted to ask how everyone is. I miss the time in front of my laptop to read all of your fanfics.

btw. here are so many things which reminds me of coldplay. in cambridge are about 3 oxfam shops and I took a photo of the shop. (but I also bought something :curtain: )

and here are a lot of people who look similar to one of coldplay. Well, and it is difficult not to die when I don't have coldplayers to share this with.

I'm looking forward to be at home again (even if cambridge is amazing) to read all of your posts ;)

see ya

oh and my teacher played vlv today and he was totally surprised when we got the songtext with gaps and I filled in the whole song without listening to it. But he also likes a coldplay song, but he couldn't remember the title. he will tell it to me tomorrow. ;) (he didn't even know a phrase of the song so that i could have known which one exactly it was, 'cause iI would have known :sneaky:

I, however, have no excuse. Lulz!

Yay good to see you pop in Sofie

I, however, have no excuse. Lulz!

Yay good to see you pop in Sofie

I just couldn't resist. :sneaky:

Sofie...I want to read the rest of your fic! :( It was really good.

Anyway, on a happier note...I wrote a random story! :escaping:

Shivers (Because I can't think of a crappier title)

I was so exhausted that I could barely lift my head. I lay on my bed in the hotel, curled up on top of the covers, refusing to move. I shivered with the cold, but I was too weak to do anything about it.

I knew I should have insisted on not going to this gig. I was feeling like shit, but I hadn’t wanted to let the band down, so I’d put my well-being second. And now I was paying for it dearly.

Guy was sick too, and I guessed he was probably in the same position in the next room. Jonny had left a few hours ago to wander the town, and he’d promised to bring back something to reduce my fever. Will, I supposed, was in the room with Guy. Or maybe he was with Jonny; trying to avoid getting sick.

I looked blearily at the clock on the bedside table. It was around eight at night, and I was beginning to wish I were dead. I curled my fingers into the blanket and held it tightly, moaning and whimpering. And then I felt something unexpected.

Someone was pulling a blanket over me. I continued to shake, but I began to feel its warmth seep through me. Then whoever had given me the blanket put a wet washcloth against my forehead, and I gasped as the cold hit my feverish skin. “Easy now,” said a distant voice. I recognized it as Will’s. What was he doing?

“W-Will?” I whispered, trying to focus on him.

“Yeah…Shit, I was hoping you wouldn’t notice me. I thought you were asleep.”

“I can’t…I try, but I can’t…”

“Oh. I, uh…do you need anything?” he sounded a bit embarrassed, and I wondered why.

“Is something wrong?” I asked, my voice barely working. “Did I do somethin’ wrong?”

“Jesus, Chris…you’re really fucked up.” he muttered, rubbing my arm. “Just try and sleep until Jonny gets back.”

“What? Did I do somethin’?”

“No, you didn’t do anything wrong.”

“Why are you doin’ this?”

“Because you look like death.”

“But…you’re not nice…”

“Oh, thanks.” he muttered, the bed sinking under his weight as he sat down. “I think you should see a doctor. Guy too, but he’s not quite this bad.”

I buried myself deeper into the blanket and sighed, already beginning to drift off. “Stay ‘til Jonny comes.” I slurred. I didn’t really want to be alone.

“Just go to sleep, Chris. I’ll stay.”

I never remembered exactly what happened, but Jonny told me the next morning that Will had been there when he’d gotten back…two hours later.
